If they don't want anyone (Dawn's school, Buffy's dad, and all the vamps and demons) knowing that Buffy's dead, why put up a gravestone with her name on it? Yeah, I know that they buried her in a secluded spot, not one of the cemeteries, but that just means that it would've attracted even more attention when it was found (not "if", because it would've been found sooner or later).

That interview's getting a lot of venom because of the outrigger comments. Frankly, I'm glad they a) knew who it was and b) had the good sense to know what was necessary to tell the story, instead of trying to slip a scene in that would probably be unnecessary in the final hours. Yeah, well, those are the people who want every... single... mystery solved, and we've known for probably 2 seasons now that there just wasn't going to be room to answer everything. Honestly, I'd prefer the unanswered ones be relatively minor things like "Who was shooting at the outrigger?" But hey, since they know, maybe they'll mention it on one of the DVD audio commentaries... ;D

Damn, I still have to give all my answers for this. But I wanna be thorough, so I keep putting it off until I have time... But in the meantime, Courtney, can you give some examples of what you're talking about? 'Cause I actually had the exact opposite experience of you: didn't really like Dawn much at first, but the more I re-watch, the more I see her growing and maturing as she goes along--especially in S7, but even in S6 (not counting the bout of kleptomania). In many ways, she's like the female Xander: a character with no superpowers, who still manages to be brave and strong amid all the chaos, and who wants to be there to help and support her friends. That's one of the things that I really love about her: she's the exact opposite of a coward or a 'fraidy-cat. She sees danger, and she wants to charge right into it and help her friends fight it, and the only reason she didn't get to do very much of that was that Buffy was always grabbing her and saying, "Whoa, not so fast--get back here where it's safe." The "immature, whiny" thing is maybe-- maybe--valid in S5. She's 14, and Buffy herself admitted to still being immature at 16 ("I'm a teen--I have yet to mature"), and considering all that Dawn was going thru that year, I think that at least a little whining was justified. But that's really all it was, IMO: "a little whining". Yet somehow the people who don't like her have managed to blow that way out of proportion and turn it into, like, her defining character trait, when that's just not the case.

How in the hell did Mother kill that entire village? Not only that, but didn't she fill in the big-ass hole MiB had dug, too? I wonder if there's any more to that story still to be told. Maybe she was a little more than she seemed--some sort of creature similar to the black smoke? Well, to play devil's (diablo's ) advocate, they were sheltered inside the cave, away from the elements. And bones don't really deteriorate that quickly. Clothes and soft-tissue, yeah, but the bones, not so much...

It was annoying, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the episode. It didn't ruin mine, either, but it detracted from it. It was just an amateur-ish sort of that you don't expect from such great writers this late in the game.

I loved this episode... right up until the final minute. Was anyone else really annoyed by the inclusion of the S1 Jack-Kate-Locke flashbacks? All of the hard-core fans were going to make that connection to Adam & Eve immediately, without needing the writers to hold our hands and lead us to it. The more casual fans had probably forgotten all about Adam & Eve and wouldn't have made the connection at all... but so what? Was it crucial that they do? Is that realization vital to understanding something that happens in the final 2 episodes? It just bugs me because it's so out of character for the show, where they've always had faith in the viewers' intelligence and dedication to believe that we'd realize these sorts of things on our own. Suddenly, right at the very end of the series, they decide to switch it up, and help make sure we can connect the dots. In that case, why stop there? In the scene where MiB was telling crazy-foster-mom about his plan for his wheel, why not include a clip of Ben turning the frozen-donkey-wheel from a couple of seasons ago? If it's an important thing to know about for the final 2 eps (which I don't believe it is), then include it in the "Previously On" at the beginning of one of them. Otherwise, they should've just left it out. Not only was it OOC for what they've done for 6 seasons now, but it really spoiled the flow of the ep. It would've been great if they could've limited the entire thing to just those 3 characters. They were so good that they really didn't need anyone coming in and stepping on their toes at the end...

So...by ATF do you mean the Angel comics with the ATF tag? Or all of the Angel continuation comics? If it's the latter, then I can't vote because I haven't finished them yet Not sure about anyone else, but I'm only talking about "After the Fall", the first 17 issues. Those were the ones that at least had some involvement from Joss, and therefore some veneer of canonicity. Everything from #18 on is really no different than any of the "Buffy"/"Angel" novels, or previous (pre-S8/AtF) comic series...

And while many of this board seem to have stopped trusting Joss, I'm simply curious how it will all play out. "I want to see how it ends." If Joss hung out here as a semi-frequent contributor to these boards, too, I think S8 would be showered with the same sort of praise, with nary a disparaging word to be found, as AtF gets. Anyway, I voted "neither". I jumped off the sinking ship that is S8 several issues back, and the only reason I didn't abandon AtF, as well, was that it was so much shorter--if it had gone on for 40 issues, I doubt I would've made it to the end of that one, either. And it's nothing about the "change in medium". It's subpar storytelling, plain and simple.

IE, in spite of the fact that the Data Execution Prevention thingy has been randomly closing my browsing sessions for the last couple of months.
I also have Firefox installed, because there are a couple of websites I visit that have all kinds of trouble with IE, but those are the only times I use it. It's just too damn slow...

Xander: "Let me tell you something about Buffy. In fact, you should all listen to this."
Not sure if it's the line itself, the way Nick delivers it, or the way the director staged the scene, but as Kennedy (unnecessarily) points out, "Uh, we kinda were."

What is with this trend of celebrity men cheating on their beautiful and/or smart and/or lovely wives? And with the skankiest, jankiest women on the planet? I just don't understand. Is there something more alluring about a stank hooker than a quality woman? Can a man explain this to me? And now the popular excuse when they get caught is to play the "sexual addiction" card, and go into rehab(!) for it. Newsflash: every guy is addicted to sex! But when they meet the right woman, the mature & decent ones can commit to her, and remain faithful. The immature scumbags can't control that desire, and will continue to chase anything in a skirt. Celebrities like David and Tiger Woods are going to have no shortage of women eager to sleep with them, even knowing that they're married (altho most will probably be skanks of varying degrees), so they just continue to indulge themselves. The average guy on the street is going to have a lot easier time "controlling his 'sexual addiction'", because it's harder for him to find a steady supply of willing women than it is for a big-time celebrity...

Sounds like I'm in the minority, but: meh. I couldn't summon up much emotion over the deaths in this one, since everyone's still alive in the flash-sideways. Really lessens the impact of these sorts of moments, because--whether it actually happens or not--they've got me believing that somehow these two timelines are going to be brought together in the end, and when that happens that there's a good chance all the dead characters won't be dead anymore. I can see where you're coming from, and the sideways world gives me hope for a happy ending for most of the characters, but they are all different. The Sun and Jin in the flash-sideways aren't the same characters I loved for six seasons and who grew on and off the island. We barely know them. But we've already seen some of the characters in the FS getting flashes of their memories from the main timeline back. If the two realities are brought together, and they get all their memories back, don't they become the characters we've loved for six seasons? No idea if that's going to happen or not (I've stayed completely spoiler-free), but that's the main theory I'm going with right now. So however it turns out, there had better be a great payoff for the FS, because so far the only real thing they've done is to drain most of the impact from tonight's ep for me: "Gosh, they're dead. But they're probably all gonna come back to life by the end of it (Jin, Sun, Sayid, Shannon, Boone, Frogurt...), so why am I supposed to care that much?"

You can see what's gonna happen here, right? Angel and Spike are gonna split the female/gay-male vote, and Faith is going to get almost all of the male/gay-female vote. Even with less than half the precincts reporting, I'm gonna go ahead and call this one for Faith right now... ;D

No. That's boring. Batgirl, Supergirl... they're just cheap knock-offs of the original male version. Robin's a wholly-original character. Plus, it's the perfect unisex name. ;D And I'd hate to see them re-cast the Joker. Save that for the next re-boot. In this cycle of movies, no one could ever possibly come close to touching Ledger's performance, so they shouldn't even attempt it. Hell, I had enough trouble with the new Rachel, and you could hardly compare the impact of Katie Holmes performance with Ledger's... Is your problem with the Rachel recast Gyllenhaal's performance or do you just hate recasting? I just hate recasting. I actually preferred Maggie to What's-her-face Cruise. Re-casting. If you can't get the original actor back for whatever reason, create a new character and re-work the script however necessary. It just really takes me out of the story when they try to pass off a brand-new face as the same old character... I'll admit to thinking Holmes was hot back in the day. Lost all interest in her after she went crazy and married the midget. But I actually thought that in this role, she and Gyllenhaal were both very good.

I remember telling Xi this a long time back, but hey, I'll throw it out there again: Summer Glau as the first female incarnation of Robin. Never happen, but I think it'd be cool. You just wanna see Summer in tights. I just wanna see Summer kick some ass. I can watch "Waiting in the Wings" any time I wanna see her in tights. It would be awesome, but even more than that I'd love to see the reaction if it actually happened. The fanboys hate any kind of major change to established canon ("You can't have a girl Robin!"), but on the other hand, the fanboys love Summer (myself included ;D ), so how ever would they reconcile those 2 things?
