I'm reposting in this thread, despite the fact that it's long dead hehe, because I was just reminded of something I'd like to share with everyone. My mother and me were reading this book called Mental Radio by Upton Sinclair a while back and we tried to recreate something Upton Sinclair and his wife did in the book...
Get two pads of paper, one for you and one for a friend or loved one, or anyone, I guess. It'd be best if it was someone you already suspected you had some form of telepathy with... Sit in separate rooms and draw at the same time, of anything that comes into your head. It can be an object, a shape, anything you see. Then after a set period of time, like maybe 5 minutes, go back and compare your pictures. The results may be very striking!

I'm a psych major, so that may have something to do with it, but I think MOST of telepathic experiences are more the power of suggestion and as the others said, coincidence in stranger cases. However, I do think that there are a few people in the world who likely do experience it. I haven't, myself. but I'm sure it's possible for some.
The experiment leads me to believe that someone close to me will also have similar thoughts to mine in general just because they're around me often, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was correct.

I know about that explanation and have considered it many times, but it just seems even more incredible to me. I mean, we are so alike that at any given time we can sit down and draw very similar drawings? How about me drawing an easter egg, my mother drawing a plate of eggs and bacon and her boyfriend calling within that same time span and telling her that he was cooking eggs? And I live in NC and he lives in Arizona. They had met once... I just find that sort of coincidence much more unlikely than our brains doing something we haven't scientifically proven yet.

Erm... what time of the day was it? Hungry people tend to think of food...

Erm... what time of the day was it? Hungry people tend to think of food... Different time zones. Obviously time for him to eat in AZ so I'm assuming, and I remember it being later in the evening, so I'm guessing 7 or 8 for us? We normally eat around 4 or 5.

My point was, in a kinda oblique way, that it was coincidence. For whatever reason, your mom and you were drawing eggs, and her boyfriend calls to say that he's cooking eggs. It's really kinda mundane, and methinks that the more mundane explanation works here.

I figured that was your point.
I just think too many people are calling the case closed and the puzzle solved and I think we're missing out on things that could actually bring us answers. Science is a wonderful way for us to learn and I welcome and appreciate anything we can learn, but we are still learning. We don't have all of the answers yet. There is so much that hasn't been answered. I personally think the only fools are the ones who claim they know yes, it is true or no, it's not, because there is no way we could possibly know for sure.

Hey, if you're set on telepathy being the answer, that's your deal. There's no way to prove or disprove it, so if you believe that to be the absolute answer, don't let me convince you otherwise. I thought the purpose of this thread was to discuss our beliefs on the issue.

My whole point was to discuss it. I said and meant that I don't know and I certainly don't want to argue about it. Guess I've just been a little touchy lately anyway...
