Anybody Else "Buffy"-ized Their PC?

Beyond just the obvious of having a Whedonverse-themed wallpaper, that is?

I had a friend a few years ago who put a bunch of "Simpsons" quotes in to replace the generic Windows beeps and chimes and stuff, and it was pretty cool. So I recently did the same sort of thing:

- When you turn it on, the startup sound is (ditzy LA) Buffy from "Becoming, Pt. 1" saying, "Yeah. Hi! What?"

- The exit sound when you turn it off is Angelus (from the beginning of "Amends") asking, "Daniel--where were you going?" (cuz my name's Daniel. )

- When a pop-up is blocked, Andrew says, "I deflect thy power."

- When you plug in a new device, like a mouse or whatever, Buffy says, "I'm sure she has many exciting labor-saving attachments."

- Emptying the Recycle Bin is Angelus: "Gone, baby, gone!"

- The "Critical Stop" sound is the Buffybot: "I think my feet are broken."

And I'm thinking of having the "Device Disconnect" sound be Spike's mocking of Angel: "I feel disconnected." I briefly tried using Merl's "You're not just gonna leave me hangin' here, are you, man?" for the "Minimize" sound, but I use that feature a lot and I got real tired of that clip very quickly.

That's on my laptop (which is what I mostly use). The desktop has a "Terminator" theme, with Arnold saying "Hasta la vista, baby," when you empty the Recycle Bin, and "I'll be back," when you turn it off. Not very original, maybe, but it makes me smile.

So, anybody else have something similar?

I love that idea! How did you get all the sounds to coordinate with those actions? I'd love to be able to do that!

Changing the default sounds to something else is pretty easy. This is in Vista, but I'm pretty sure XP (from what I remember of it) and Win7 are basically the same:

Click "Start", then "Control Panel", then "Appearance and Personalization". Select "Personalization", then "Sounds". That brings up a whole list of options (a lot of which don't even have any default sounds assigned, that you can add ones to if you want). Select whichever one you wanna change, and navigate to where you have your new sound file saved (as a .wav, not an .mp3).

To create your new audio clips, first you have to get the vid clip that has the sound you want. For "Buffy"/"Angel" dialogue, well, there are several ways of getting the vids, but I think I'd be better off not going into too much detail there. Investigate that on your own. Once you have it, most sound editors (I use Goldwave) can also open .mpg, .avi, and .vob files, so open it up, trim it down to the section you wanna use, save it in .wav format, and follow the steps in the previous paragraph.

I checked the control panel for the option on my computer (XP) anyways, there's no Appearance and Personalization icon in there.

I've got this down now! If you just search for some clips on google, you can download them and use them.

My startup is Giles saying " You are the slayer..." and Buffy ending it with "to stop the spread of their evil blah, blah, blah, I've heard it, ok?"


...and my shutdown noise is from Bad Girls, with:

"Whenever Giles send me on a mission, he says please. And afterwards I get a cookie!"

My favorite is now for my recycle bin, with Spike, from Becoming, Part 1, saying "Someone wasn't worthy"

There's a site somewhere dedicated to Spike clips that I've used before, I'd have to track down the URL but it has quotes from Spike from most Buffy episodes.

I would love that one too! That is seriously one of the most hilarious scenes that I've ever watched on Buffy.
