Why would a movie have to be made, just because a run is successful? I'm still apprehensive about the Prince of Persia movie, since I enjoyed the entire Sands of Time storyline (3 games, in all), and really would've been okay if Hollywood, and Bruckheimer had never decided to touch it. Just because something is successful doesn't mean it has to be remade in any shape or form. If the Spike series is good (and this I'll accept on hearsay since I've quit on the ANGEL franchise for the time being), I'll be happy for it, but I see no reason why it had to be adapted into film format. As for recasting... well, the last time there was any news about rebooting the Buffy franchise, fans pretty much rained a whole shitstorm on the idea, so this probably won't fly either, especially since Spike is such an iconic figure too. Would I support it? No. Will I eventually rent the DVD? Perhaps.

James Marsters IS Spike. I don't believe they could ever re-cast that part and come anywhere close to staying true to the original character.
"Hellboy" is a different case entirely, because that's a character who originally began in the pages of a comic. Casting an actor for a movie was no problem, because he'd never been seen on-screen before. Ron Perlman wasn't trying to live up to the actor who'd originally defined him--he could take the part and make it his own.
Spike, on the other hand, became an icon (among the admittedly-smallish Whedon fanbase) as JM portrayed him on our TV screens week after week. You can take him from there to the pages of a comic book, but I don't think you can ever take him from there back to a TV or movie screen with a different actor. Not yet, anyway--it's only been 6 years since we last saw him. Maybe 10-15 years down the road they can re-boot the franchise with all new actors, and it'll work, but right now it's just too soon...

Why would a movie have to be made, just because a run is successful? In all honesty I don't think it's a very probable outcome, but because Spike was originally an on-screen character I do see it as possible. I think that although Buffy fans love and are eternally grateful for the comics we all miss the series to an extent and this thread is just us expressing our desire to see the characters restored to their original format. But maybe if we ask enough Joss'll eventually come round? I mean his projects all seem to be rounding themselves off lately so you'd expect him to be looking for something new . . .

If they recast it, I wouldn't watch it. Spike is James Marsters, and that's that, imo. I have to say though, if he's 58 when or if this thing comes out, he wouldn't be very believable as a vampire... although I'm sure they can do wonders with digital touch-ups and make up or whatever.
What if it was animated?

James Marsters still looks great for his age same with David Boreanaz. With make-up he'd look like Spike again. Just abit older which wouldn't matter to true fans.
Spikes look changed from season 2 to season 5 of angel anyway so it's not really a issue. James still has fantastic acting ability and many talents.
I'd be more than happy for a Spike movie i think it'd be fantastic.
But my only problem is if they do decided to make it same with the 2012 Buffy movie i WOULD NOT go see it if they re-cast James Marsters for some new upcoming guy who will be terrible at the part Spike is James and James is Spike.

The problem with a live action Spike movie/series was always the budget. Joss tried several years ago and came close to making Spike/Willow/Giles/Illyria movies sadly he couldn't get the funding. Money, thats what it is all about . I would love a Spike animated movie/series. James Marsters has done a lot of voicework in the past, including the two Buffy videogames so i think he would be up for it. But my only problem is if they do decided to make it same with the 2012 Buffy movie i WOULD NOT go see it if they re-cast James Marsters for some new upcoming guy who will be terrible at the part Spike is James and James is Spike. I don't think the Kuzai's can use Spike, they only have the movie license. Spike was created in the tv-series. So they can't use(without Joss's approvel i think) Spike,Faith,Angel, scoobies, ect.

There was talk of a GENUINE (and by that I mean Joss-run) Buffy movie a while back, and a lot of the cast members have said they'd be really up for it. The only people I think they'd have trouble getting are David Borenanaz and Alyson Hannigan as they both have very successful shows on the run (Bones and How I Met Your Mother) both of which I love btw and also with Charlotte Grace still being so young SMG may not want to undertake any new projects any time soon.
But maybe thigns will change, or maybe some cast members will return and others won't- that'd be fine. Anyways I just think thatseeing as how Joss is currently rounding off all his other projects (Dollhouse, Dr Horrible) and he could potentially end up surfing the net thinking "hmmm . . . what should I put my magic touch to next?" And if this happens I want this thread to be out there, so he can find it and know what we want. If you can hear us Joss, BRING BACK SPIKE! (and that's James as Spike, no substitutes please)

I think a Spike movie based on the comics would be interesting, but not if James weren't involved. An animated Spike movie voiced by James would be cool.

I’m dying to see a Spike movie or Spike-Spin off show, but as Kratos said everything is about the money, or about the lack of them… Here is my trailer for Spike movie, based on the Brian Lynch’s comics. With Summer Glau as Beck, Eriko Tamura as Tok and with Beta George. www.viddler.com/explore/Veiriti/videos/3/Here is my trailer for Angel movie – Last Angel In Hell, based on the After The Fall comics series. www.viddler.com/explore/Veiriti/videos/2/Enjoy!

I think Joss should make a Buffy movie. With the oringial cast. Cause he'd make alot of money out of that. I;'d of always liked a Faith Spin Off and at least Angel season 6
Great videos (Y)

I'd love to see a Spike movie, but it would have to have James Marsters. I think he's still young looking, so I don't see a problem with him playing Spike still.

Thank you, ANGEL-US! I always was an optimistic about a Buffy/Angel crossover movie with the original cast – I’d love to see a Spike-Buffy-Angel love triangle, or Spike movie with Illyria, but I almost lost my hopes… The damn Fox constantly screwed Joss’s all projects… I’m really pissed about… VampSlayer, I don't see a problem with James playing Spike – he still looks great, but they have to make the movie until he turned 50… I think 3 year later would be to late even for him… And I don’t like the idea Spike or the other characters to be re-casted… But an animated movie with realistic animation like Beowulf or Final Fantasy, voiced with the original actors would work perfectly for Spike movie or/and Buffy/Angel crossover based on the comic books.
