Birmingham or Manchester conventions would be fab. I have only been to one convention which was Collectormania Manchester in March 2008 and I had so much fun. They haven't held any more there since, despite saying there was going to be one in the summer of 2009. I don't have the money to go to London or anywhere else that far away and pay for accommodation too, so ones more mid-based would be ideal.

^^^Exactly, why have everything in the South? Put a convention in the middle of the country and everybody'd be able to get there more easily!

Starfury do the odd convention in Birmingham - the last one was T1 Last year - although not billed as such, all but one guest had appeared in whedonverse shows. I'm not sure if it was as well attended as those held in London. And the hotel was more expensive as it was the Hilton, nice though.
It'd be a question for the organisers. I know the Glasgow ones are never that big attendance wise, and these people are running a business ultimately.

Thanks for the info and I guess you're right- but maybe, if none of us Whedon-fans had heard of it- they need to make themselves known to increase attendance, because Joss's shows are very popular in the UK, there must be a clientele for this kind of thing

@billie Erin - There have been a few companies doing Whedon conventions since Buffy started - mostly they have come and gone and in some cases disappeared with the cash. Starfury have been doing cons for Whedonverse actors since umm 2001? possibly earlier and are still around. The first one I attended was 2003. They used to advertise in the Buffy magazine but mostly through forums like this and other haunts frequented by fans. They stopped doing specific whedon shows a year or so ago but had conventions for new SciFi shows that featured - whedonverse actors!!. The numbers have been dwindling since 2004/5 onwards even with advertizing and if they can't sell the tickets then they won't do the events. Whedon shows may be popular in the UK but that doesn't necessarily translate to ticket sales, I know plenty of fans who don't 'do' conventions. Showmasters ran Hallowhedon last October as a first Convention for them (they do signings) and it was fairly well subscribed (about 500+) but nothing compared to the 2500 that attended the Angel Con in 2003 run by Starfury. angel-us I've seen nothing around for Birmingham this year - if I do I will post about it.

I guess that's just me trying to justify more UK conventions then, I just guess cos my friends and I all want to attend these things it's easy to assume that eevrybody does. It's a shame that more Buffy fans don't want to meet the people who brought them the show though

I would love to meet Eliza Dushku too! And Marc Blucas, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, Amber Benson and Charisma Carpenter. I already met Anthony Head and Emma Caulfield, who were also on my most wanted list

It's a shame that more Buffy fans don't want to meet the people who brought them the show though I was the same as you Billie, I couldn't believe that there wouldn't be enough fans to keep these things running - but with the recession it's tough affording the ticket and hotel costs and equally tough trying to put them together I guess (at break even and not a loss). Big names will sell tickets, but also tend to be the most expensive for appearance fees and the busiest work committment wise. I know James Marsters will always bring the crowds in (he has a very loyal fan base) and I've heard David Boreanaz is expensive. I don't begrudge anyone as they've families to feed and such. As for Sarah Michelle Gellar - I think it's well known she doesn't do them, and on occassions a few actors I've met at these events seem to want to be anywhere but there and make no effort to hide it, but they are in the minority. I've been fortunate enough to meet many - but still want to meet Joss, Alyson ( and perhaps Sarah).

Yeah my friends mum went to a David Boreanaz event a while back and she paid something riddiculous and got to see him for like 3minutes.
I think these things are too expensive like Hallowhedon the cost of a ticket, photographs, accomendation, food, spending money etc..... it's abit too pricey Which is a shame as i'd love to go to a event

£300 to go the Halloween event with James a few years ago - but they did have other guests. And three minutes is quite good for autograph queues. The best thing is when you are in a photo shoot and the photographer has a problem whilst you are posing with the guests - you can get to chat to them if they want to talk.

Whitecandy - you could save on hotels - the convention forums always have people looking for roomies to cut down on the costs. And many people bring supplies for food over the weekend too (or Macdonalds if you can stand it for 3 days)

Oh ok, I did not know that about the roomies thing, thanks for the tip! I could probably cope with a mcchicken sandwich and mcflurry for three days in a row if I really forced myself

Billie Erin, the Thistle is obviously a great choice of hotel for locality, but check all the other hotels if you need to consider cost. We stayed at Sheraton last year, which was a really nice hotel and I think I paid £50 for 2 nights, which isn't too bad for Heathrow (may well use it again this year too!) I wish I stayed there. Me and Ryan both paid £120 for 3 nights at The Thistle and the hotel was kind of annoying. Did you share the room with Claire? Last year The Thistle served lunch for people at Hallowhedon. It was like £4 or £5 for burger and chips and a can of coke, or a jacket potato or something. Hopefully they'll do it again this year because it's a nice change from McDonalds and cold pastries.

I can't do MacD's more than once in that time frame, but have been known to have supplies of fruit and such in the room to survive. I'm going with my usual Convention buddy to Hallowhedon 2 and the Dollhouse con this year so we've no spare beds.
Sheraton is much nicer than the Thistle but I hate the short but perilous walk across the road to get to the Con. Plus one year we got drenched in a downpour and it took the edge off the party having to sloosh around in wet clothes (not pretty at all)
