Hey, I just thought of something that could be important for the Buffy fans waiting for the trade paperbacks for season 8.
As some may or may not be aware, Dark Horse's trade paperbacks normally omit non-arc stand alone issues. This has been the case with almost all of the Star Wars TPB's.
Since Season 8 is being published in roughly 4 issue arcs, there may be a very good chance that Vol. 1 will be issues #1-4 (Joss's 1st arc) and Volume 2 will be issues #6 -9 (BKV's 1st arc) Possibly leaving out Joss's stand alone issue #5. Now it is possible DH will publish this story in a later TPB, change their TPB policy and include every issue in order as printed, or just never publish them in TPB format.
Everything is up in the air and I've heard no plans but this could be important for the fans waiting for the TPB but expect to read all of S8. If no plans or release information is released by issue #5's release, TPB waiters may want to pick up that issue just to be safe!

Thanks for the head's up. I was actually on just getting the TPBs for friends in Europe since it would be cheaper for them. I guess it's time to scratch that idea.

I believe that what will happen, is that they will release the first arc in a TPB with #5 contained in it as an extra. Then the same with the second arc and #10. I'll email Dark Horse and see what they can tell us.

I'm a huge comic reader/collector and it is very typical for DH to leave out the stand alones...I'm missing issues of many SW comics because I got into them late and just picked up the TPB's Confirmation either way would be good, but I posted this just in case we don't hear anything official before #5 drops I am buying the issues but also will get the TPB and will be pleasantly surprised if they are all reprinted in since this would be a HUGE (but welcome) departure to their usual way of handling trade paperbacks.

i actually have to rebut your comment 'colonelforbin'... i was just in a comic shop today glancing over the old Buffy and Angel TPBs, and many of them collected stand-alone issues that did not fit with the rest of the stories. Case in point, "Bad Blood" TPB collects the short story 'Goodnight Moon' from Dark Horse Presents #141, the "Pale Reflections" storyarc collects the standalone story from DHP Annual 2000 called 'Killing Time', The Death of Buffy TPB collects Buffy #46 'Withdrawal', Slayer, Interrupted" TPB collects 'Dawn and Hoopy the Bear' from Buffy #55
in many cases, these standalone stories were collected because they shared a similar artist (Joe Bennet drew all the stories from 'Bad Blood,' Cliff Richards drew all the stories from 'Pale Reflections' or the same writer as in the case of the Death of Buffy, Jim Pascoe and Tom Fassbender, or just happening to be in linear order, such as the case of Paul Lee's standalone story Buffy #55 being collected in 'Slayer, Interrupted'... so I doubt they'll leave out Buffy vol. 2 #5 from the first Season 8 tpb.

Hey all!!! I just received this e-mail from dark horse...
Thank you for your interest in Dark Horse and Buffy. We do plan on releasing TPBs for Buffy Season 8, you can start looking for the first one at the end of this year. We do not have a release date set at the moment. The first will contain the first 4 issues.
So it doesn't look as if #5 will be included but maybe it could be in the next one???

I don't think I will be buying the TPBs. I do like them a lot more then the single issues, but I have feeling Dark Horse will release them in a BIG volume, or omnibuses like they are doing with the old comic book run.

Hey, did you read the message above??? The TPB's will pack up each arc by the looks of it. I cannot wait to see what they are like. I wonder if Jo chen will create a new cover especially for it, with the whole gang???

I did read it, but I just ment like a BIG BIG volume, like with the WHOLE Season in one book, or a couple, instead of TPBs for each arc.

waiting for an omnibus of Season 8 will be a long long time. Scott Allie announced back in late 2006 that the Omnibuses would only be collecting the original comics. If they do an Omnibus for Season 8, it prob wouldn't be until after it concludes, which won't be for another 2-4 years

I'll try to toughen it out, but I probably wont make it.

I know this is the case however they are as you said "older Buffy comics" I have brought up a new concern about the way DH has been handling comic TPB's recently. Also I'm starting to think I might be on to something since Vol#1 will only be issues 1-4. and would make no sence to have vol#2 be issues 5-9? I could be wrong and thanks for bringing up the past format of Buffy TPB's...Kinda sucks that Bennyboi emailed DH and we still have no idea what the plan is for the standalones!
