Yeah, too much from the storytellers and not enough (new) Wash story. Probably too much pent-up Firefly demand made me impatient to get past these new dudes and onto some action -- 7 pages in before we see Wash! I did like the artwork, and had a few chuckles.

I loved this issue! I thought it was interesting to see other character's perspective, I wasn't expecting to see the main cast so I wasn't disappointed. And the last panel....wow.....once I stopped crying (really!) I was laughing with happiness for the future. Was NOT ready for that emotional impact!!

Took a couple of rereads to really get what was going on in all the stories, but once that all made sense, it was an enjoyable read. Nothing groundbreaking... we already knew that Wash was brave, resourceful, and loyal before this. The cameo at the end was unexpected for me, but I realize that quite a few people called it a while back. But once Zoe was revealed, the second shocker was spoiled for me... it was pretty obvious. It was a nice goodbye to a much loved character, but other than the ending, it offered nothing of real value. The artwork was my favorite part of the whole experience. Reynold's grittier style worked really well within the 'verse. His sketch of Zoe in action at the back of the book was amazing in how well it captured the character.

Do you know what the problem with the issue was? It was 5 years too late. If it had come out soon after the movie then there would have been more of an emotional connection. No matter who upset we all were at Wash's death...something like this doesnt have the same impact 5 years later.
I really wanted to like this. But it did feel like a big twist preceded by lots of pages of characters we didnt know telling us stuff we already knew (Wash was funny,Wash was loyal and Wash was a great pilot)
I didnt learn anything new about him.Which was dissappointing.
But having said that, if the revelation that Zoe is pregnant with his child means that there is could be more stories to be told in this verse...well then I would be very happy.Come on Serenity ongoing!!!

I thought it was OK. It was exactly what I was expecting it to be, based on the descriptions we'd been given, so it's not like I found anything to be disappointed about. The dialog was a little hard to understand at times, being all filled with futuristic pilot jargon, but I got the idea. And the surprise at the end was certainly worthwhile. I thought the depiction of the Reaver tactics was a bit weird. One ship gets caught in the planet's gravity well, and ALL the other dive in after it? Why?
Then again, after "Serenity" I never really got how the Reavers, who come across as basically mindless George Romero zombies, could do something as complex as fly a spaceship in the first place. I look forward to the day when Joss finally decides to push the story forward again.

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this update! Scott Allie posted an acknowledgement to fan film Bellflower here. My apologies to the crew of the Serenity fan film Bellflower--
Recently, we made a truly unfortunate mistake regarding the use of art from a fan film in one of our comics. We would like to make an apology to the artists and the filmmaker who were affected by our error. While preparing to draw Serenity: Float Out, artist Patric Reynolds researched ships from the ’Verse online, and mistook some ships designed for the fan film Bellflower for canonical ships. The ships were designed by John Douglass, S. E. O’Brien, Sam Osbourne, and filmmaker Mark James. Their work is terrific, and completely professional, like so much of what the Browncoats do, so no one realized the mistake.
We understand that this was a serious oversight on our part. We want to assure everyone that this is not a usual occurance, and we will make sure to be more careful in the future. Please accept my most sincere apologies, on behalf of Dark Horse and artist Patric Reynolds.
- Scott Allie
It's not surprising that there was a mix-up. So much of the fan works are on a professional level. Nice to read Scott speaking about it.
