Gotta love the use of the phrase "shit the bed" lol Define Better. Buffy adapted each season, grew, moved on, loved, lost and learnt. Are we talking the show or the character? Are we talking age or fighting abilities, personality or relationships. I'd probably end up disagreeing on most of those though... I'm talking about the show "Buffy", and not the character Buffy. Better as in more effectively written, funnier and scarier, with a better defined premise. I preffered watching the teen who struggles to maintain a normal life over the girl who has any chances of a normal life constantly ripped away from her. I believe the show knew what it was back in high school, and struggled to constantly reinvent itself after that time had passed. I don't think the writing really struggled until the last 2 years of the show however, and ceratinly wouldn't give up 4 and 5 for the world.

Personally, I wouldn't want to give up the progression we see over all seven seasons. At the end of high school, Buffy was still the lone wolf, Xander was still pretty much directionless, and Willow was just barely beginning to understand her power. Watching the three of them grow and come into their own is one of the best things about the series -- it doesn't try to keep the high school feeling going forever, but keeps the characters developing in ways that, for all the fantastical weirdness of the setting, are very realistic.

Buffy was wonderful to watch during the High School years, but much more fascinating later. I go with the reasons people give for loving Buffy after High School.

I don't necessarily think of the high school years as "better." Season 2 is one of my favorite seasons, but then again so is season 7. I think both the early and later seasons have special things about them. The high school years provide me with a purely nostalgic feeling. I watch seasons 1-3 and am immediately transported to a time when my life was much simpler. On the other hand, I appreciate the later seasons as well because I find that the older I get, the more I can relate to the storylines, etc.

Season 5 is my favorite season, and season 1 would be my least favorite apart from season 7. I do not like Buffy "Better", in Seasons 1-3, but I do like the high school years as I am in High School, so there for I can relate to the story better. Edit: I wrote a whole other bunch of stuff, but it seemed to make more sense in my head than it did typed up

I think Buffy was at it's best from 2-5. Season 3 is close to perfect, whereas season 2 has a lot of forgettable episodes and is only saved by the Angelus arc and a few other great episodes. I guess I semi-agree because I find the writing and stories aren't kept as tight in seasons 6 and 7. But seasons 5 and 4 are two of my favourites and are better than seasons 1 and 2 IMO. I think season 3 is the only consistently good High School year.
