Yay, finally got this issue! (Got a lucky trip to the LCS while at home - few less comics I'll have to buy out from my school store when I go back.) Only major quip I had was that the Hyperion scene had entirely too many characters. And I get why there were so many characters, but the fact remains that Kate, Spike, Illyria, and Connor could have carried it without any interference from the rest (though, I did love Gunn's expression when he says "quit while you're behind" - hilarious. Also, humorously, I was shocked SHOCKED at how Willingham didn't try to work Nina/Gwen in somewhere. But now I'm just ragging to rag, so I'll stop talking about that now. ) What I liked about the writing? Everything else. Especially Angel mimicking Cordelia - "God, I am soooo bored." And Eddie Hope has my UNDIVIDED ATTENTION. Speaking of the art, holy $%^! how awesome. On both ends. Messina continues to deliver the hits like he's been doing in Only Human, and Denham = pretty much amazing. So yeah. I'm a happy ANGEL reader. Mock me.

I am kind of bummed that Nina didn't stick around, but including her is just entirely too much, character wise. We know that Gwen will be showing up eventually though, which is exciting. I wonder if Eddie will eventually be integrated into the team (tons of speculation on my part as we know nothing about where his story will end up), and what would happen to Bill Williams then? Also, I wonder how the two Bills will handle their own crossovers within the series, as Angel and Eddie are bound to meet eventually. Probably just write the issues together (they both plot the Eddie stories after all, and Williams just writes them).

It's actually the store located in the town where I go to school - it's a separate LCS but the difference is the distance traveled. I still can't drive yet (I'm lazy) so I can't drive to the stores in the town where I live, but at school the LCS is a 10-15 minute walk from my dorm room. So naturally all the good Buffy/Angel comics come out in the one month where I can't make my weekly trip to the store. Didn't Bill (one of them anyway) say that Gwen would be meeting up with Eddie Hope early on? That's going to be something fierce. <3

It was small though and had a bad selection. My store at home though is a lot better, it's just 30 minutes away though. Yeah, Williams said in the Buffyfest interview that Gwen would be meeting Eddie soon, and that she is his favorite character, so even cooler.

Them mentioning each other would be neat, but I love the idea of Eddie's story continuing while all the other characters deal with the main issue. Who knows, maybe it takes place during another timeline. Should be interesting when and how Angel shows up. That'd be a cool question for an interview or something. I'm also curious to find out how they handle it.

I'm also curious to find out how they handle it. In interviews, they seemed to be pretty set that Eddie's story would converge eventually with Angel's... but they never said anything about him "joining" the team. I kinda liken him to Faith characteristically - Faith was created to be the "un-Buffy" i.e. to show what Buffy would be like if she were really a bad girl with no support group. Eddie is kinda like that in relation to Angel, at least based on what we've seen so far - where Angel has an excellent grasp on drawing the line between "justice" and "vengeance", Eddie doesn't even grasp that a line exists yet. And I know right now I sound like I'm making him into another Gunn/Illyria like how I argued in the "Angel's Next Wesley" thread, but I have a feeling that Eddie is much bigger (physically and metaphorically) than Gunn/Illyria. I wanna know what's wronged him to make him this... righteous. If that makes sense.

It won't be surprising if they don't get along. Will Angel understand what he's doing, maybe even agree? Or will Eddie keep going down this dark path, forcing Angel to kill him. Some this could work with Gwen too, who has her own moral problems. Jeez, only four pages and there's so much to speculate on.

Gwen has the unique position of being the amoral person in this triangle. She acts mostly out of self-interest, which usually puts her simultaneously on one side and then another. Amoral characters are fun to use in stories for precisely this reason. Examples: Topher Brink, Gaius Baltar, YoSaffBridge (is there an official spelling on that?).

Maybe it'll depend on where Williams takes her character. She changed in After the Fall when she betrayed Connor, she must've known what she did was wrong since she sacrificed her life to save him and the others. But I like your idea of her being the amoral one out of the three, and I definitely wouldn't mind seeing careless, badass Gwen again. No more whining please.

I think there's enough whining among Team Angel to last a lifetime. At least Spike will be whining in his OWN book soon.

The natural progression of the story will definitely be for Eddie to cross over into the main title, for sure. I mean, the set-up and conflict are there. Eddie wants to kill people who did bad stuff in Hell. He's gonna want to kill the crap out of Gunn. And also probably Illyria and Gwen.

I agree Pat. And I am looking forward to seeing the sparks fly!
I am anxious just to get through this arc top be honest. Angel seems to still be in captivity at #31 - I kinda want him to be up and about again before that. I know this arc will concentrate on Connor most of all, but I am getting more enjoyment as an 'Angel' fan from all the side projects rather than the main title at the mo.
With the upcoming Lorne special,ep adaps, Angelus projects I am getting more of what I want from the series - which is the title character.

Or maybe he'll try to sneak-attack Gunn by going after Non in that asylum Betta George pointed out - his first good deed after Hell-A was over would be a nice draw, and Non is also on the list of people who did bad things.

Could someone please explain the multiple titles? Is the arc called "Immortality for Dummies" or "The Crown Prince Syndrome"? What's the logic behind the two titles, has it been explained? Sorry for the random question, but I was working at the Buffyverse Wiki and I suddenly realised I have no idea what the official title for this story is. I hate the way IDW title their stories. Dark Horse does it so simply; you have the overall series title then individual arc titles. IDW keep piling up titles so you have no idea what the story is actually called. It's a real pet hate for me. Look at the state of these titles: Angel: After the Fall #1-5 Angel: After the Fall: First Night #6-8 Angel: After the Fall #9-17 Angel: Aftermath #18-22 Angel: After the Fall - Epilogue: Become What You Are #23 Angel: Drusilla #24-25 Angel: Boys and Their Toys #26-27 Angel: Immortality for Dummies: The Crown Prince Syndrome #28-31 Argh! Doesn't this bother anyone else?

The larger story-arc is called "Immortality For Dummies" - that's Willingham's whole run, probably including Eddie Hope's story as being done by Bill and David in the back-ups.
#28 and #29 comprise a two-part story called "The Crown Prince Syndrome" because they're all about Connor, aka the Crown Prince.

Thank you for explaining ( Terminator reference! ). A story-arc within a story-arc? Urgh, it's so awkward. So Willingham's entire run is gonna be about this immortality story? How long is it going to last?

Well it's unclear how long the arcs will last (although I think I read somewhere that The Crown Prince Syndrome will be 5-6 issues). No idea how long Immortality for Dummies will last, or if the name will change later on. Probably won't get a good idea until we get a few more solicits or some info from Ryall or through interviews or something.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season Eight: Time of Your Life Part II fail to see the difference. Season Eight is the actual series title, whereas "Time of Your Life" is the story title. It's the same format as a television series. It's not... Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season Eight: Time of Your Life Part Iit's... Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight"Time of Your Life, Part One" However, because Angel began as a limited series, the actual series title was Angel: After the Fall. Now that's it's become an ongoing, there's confusion between the actual series title and the individual stories. It's... Angel: Aftermath Angel: Boys and Their Toyswhen it should be... Angel"Aftermath" "Boys and Their Toys" The various extra titles IDW keep bringing out just adds to the confusion. I realise this probably sounds like rambling nonsense to a normal person, but when you're a Wikipedia editor, this kind of thing is very important. If it's... Angel: Immortality for Dummies"The Crown Prince Syndrome, Part One" then that implies that Immortality is an actual series, rather than just one storyarc. I'm so confused...

Nah.
The whole run isn't titled "Immortality for Dummies." Willingham said that arc is five issues long. There is definitely confusion between IDW and Willingham about the title of the arc, because they're calling the arc "The Crown Prince Syndrome" and he's saying that's just the name of the first issue. What I honestly think is that Willingham named the arc, told IDW about it, and then later on cooked up a cooler title. Either way, whatever the book says, the book says, so it's "The Crown Prince Syndrome, Part 1 of 5" unless a change is made.
As far this:
I don't really get that. It is[/is] the latter. The titles aren't even on the actual book, so it makes it easier. The title is "Angel." The issues have their individual or arc titles, the same way Buffy does. It's the exact same thing, only without the "season" subtitle.
