With the release of Aftermath #20 this week, we are down to five issues left before Angel reaches issue #25 around September. It's Brian's last issue (for now), and the last issue that we have information about. So before we start to learn some new information about the series, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone would like to see happen once Angel passes its 25th issue.
Who should join as the new writer? Who should do the art? Cover art? What direction would you like to see the story take? Do you want shorter arcs (4-5 issues) or longer arcs like After the Fall (10+ issues)?
Some simple questions, but I thought it might spur some fun discussion.

Nice topic. I'd really love if Peter David wrote a few issues. Based on what he did with Spike vs. Dracula and the Illyria Spotlight, he has a great handle on the characters and verse, some amazing character development. Stephen Mooney should really be doing the main art, I can't think of a better choice while Urru is doing the Spike series. David Messina would also be a good choice, really enjoyed his work in the older comics. Not to sure about the story and arcs, guess I'll just wait and see what happens. The idea of longer arcs is cool though, love long stories. It'd be cool if Gwen and Kate stuck around too, along with more characters coming back, especially Lorne, Illyria and Gunn, assuming none of them team up with Spike.

The only Angel writer I really know is Brian Lynch, but in terms of art, I'd say David Messina. I really loved his artwork in the earlier Angel comics, as well as Spike's First Night. Maybe a combination of small and long arcs, but I'm not sure about the story and which direction it could go

writer: Brian Lynch, writers from the shows and any actors too...
Art: Franco Urru, Stephen Mooney and Nick Runge
Would love to see Anne, Illyria and Cordy back.

I want Lorne. A entire Lorne-arc, minimum of 3 issues. I just think there's potential in that character. Brian as a writer would be a safe bet, because from what I've seen he gets Lorne.
I think I would like it if Anne did a few apperances in that arc as well. Maybe Spike & Anne could finally meet up and have that awkward moment I've been dreaming of;
Spike: Don't I know you from somewhere?
Anne: Nope, no, no, NO. Nope, I don't recognize you at all.
Spike: You're that girl from the basement.
Anne: Nuhu.
Spike *leering*
Anne *blushing*
Spike: Color looks good on you.
END SCENE.

Who should join as the new writer? No idea, but I think that I'll go for a writer who wrote for Ats before. In both, season 8 and Aftermath ... it's painfully clear that it's quite hard to capture the voices when you never played with the characters before. Of course I would love to see David Greenwalt return to Angel. But I doubt that this is going to happen.
Who should do the art? Stephen Mooney is my first choice.
Cover art? Can we have Alex Garner back? And Runge or Mooney for the other cover.
What direction would you like to see the story take? I actually like the direction Aftermath is going; back to basics with a smaller group. More time for characters and the original concept of the show ... helping people. Although I need W&H to return, or maybe a new big bad. But I want it to stay compact, no trips to the future, Japan, hell, epic battles and gimicks.
Do you want shorter arcs (4-5 issues) or longer arcs like After the Fall (10+ issues)? Shorter arcs, with a long epic arc after some small arcs.

Who should join as the new writer? Like Nina suggested, I think it would be really nice to see a writer from the show approached to take on the series. Someone like Greenwalt, DeKnight, Bell, etc. would just be awesome. Peter David would also be an interesting choice, as his Illyria Spotlight is very impressive (haven't read his other stuff). Just someone that knows the characters and knows the show and has long-term view of where the series should head.
Who should do the art? Definitely Stephen Mooney. If we can't have Franco, then Stephen is an easy second choice. David Messina would also be a great choice as well. His art in Spike's First Night story was some of my favorite art in After the Fall.
Cover art? Ideally I would love either Garner, Runge or Mooney doing covers. Gabriel Rodriguez's covers for Aftermath are really great as well.
What direction would you like to see the story take? I really like that Angel Investigations are back open for business, so I'd like to see that continue. I also loved the potential Season 6 storyline that involved a demon like mafia, so that could always be explores. Perhaps connected with the Lords from Hell-A in some way. As for the cast, I don't want it as big as After the Fall, but Angel, Gunn, Lorne, Illyria, Connor would be my first choice as a main cast. Gwen, Kate and Nina could join in a supporting role.
Do you want shorter arcs (4-5 issues) or longer arcs like After the Fall (10+ issues)? Probably smaller arcs that are all connected to one larger story (new Big Bad, return of Wolfram & Hart, whatever).

Writer As David Greenwalt once said Joss was 24 hours a day buffy and I was 17 hours a day Angel So defiantly Greenwalt as executive producer with a few new and a few tv writers
Art I enjoyed David Messina, and any one that did ATF and some new blood
Runge for Covers
Direction Angel taking on the lords
Arcs Short arcs with a line like season thingy running through it and at the end of the "season" a 7-8 issue arc

Good topic. I have not idea what to expect for Angel 26+. As far as writers go, if we can't have Lynch, the only other proven good choice (outside of staff writers from the show) would be Peter David. So far he's the only other writer that I've seen capture the characters well. Check that - John Byrne is awesome.
Another thought would be Brett Matthews, the guy who co-wrote A Long Night's Journey as well as the Serenity books. Or maybe IDW could get Steve Niles to write an arc. Ben Templesmith or Ashley Wood doing art?
Of course I can dream of Brian K Vaughn, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, or Grant Morrision...

Who should join as the new writer? Brian Lynch is the ideal. As a writer myself, I've been trying to get noticed by IDW, but they're looking for big names. So I guess the ideal for me is ME because it's my dream hahaha. But as far as other possible writers, Peter David is definitely a great option. As far as Angel writers, I'd love Tim Minear or pretty much anyone who consistently wrote during seasons 2-5. Other than that, I wouldn't mind an arc from Scott Tipton, he's very good. Not at Peter David or Brian Lynch's level, but still very good.
Who should do the art? Stephen Mooney would be fantastic. I'd say Franco Urru, but he's busy with Spike. Messina is also an option, but he's so busy and I wouldn't want anyone on assists; just him. Mooney is definitely one of my favorites, but it would be fantastic to see Gabriel Rodriguez or Ben Templesmith give Angel a go.
Cover art? Alex Garner on painted, Messina or Runge on regulars.
What direction would you like to see the story take? Move forward. No Cordelia teases, no resurrections--what happened in "After the Fall" must count, because it's too good a story not to. Angel, Gunn, Illyria, Connor, and Gwen must come together. Spike should also be a constant guest star, even though he has his own series. Kate should stick around, and Nina should be there too. Just not in a huge capacity. The fallout of the Shanshu revelation should be explored, as should the things that the Shanshu describe as leading up to Angel Shanshuing. Character stuff should be explored in depth, because everyone is at a really fascinating psychological place.
Do you want shorter arcs (4-5 issues) or longer arcs like After the Fall (10+ issues)? Shorter arcs that slowly build on an on-going arc. Like a season, but shorter. Maybe a new longer arc after 20 issues or so.

Hey guys, never posted in the Angel section of this site (I don't think?) Who should join as the new writer?I want one of the writers from the TV series to give it a crack. We've been very fortunate to have so many of the Btvs writers come in and do season eight so it'd be nice if the same happened for 'Angel.' My three top picks would be Whedon (yeah I know fat chance...) Minear (not as fat chance but still...) or Bell (best hope!.) If that didn't work out I guess Lynch. Who should do the art?Mooney! No doubt about it. I've never got the big love for Franco, yeah his art is ok but nothing special IMO. It's very wishy washy and doesn't show the emotions of the characters all that well. Mooney is brilliant! Cover art?Alex Garner.. or Mooney. What direction would you like to see the story take?I'd like to think that we could return to an earlier season kind of format but I don't know how well it works for a comic book series. I think Armstrong's issues have kind of tainted my want for that but it may just be because I haven't been fond of her writing. I would like the issues of 'After the Fall' to be dealt with, it's rather jarring how 'Aftermath' has contradicted something’s about 'Atf.' I'd also like to see Gunn, Illyria and Spike back. I'm sorry but this could just be Armstrong’s writing again but Angel/Connor/Gwen/Kate just isn't doing it for me. Do you want shorter arcs (4-5 issues) or longer arcs like After the Fall (10+ issues)?Like 'After the Fall.'

I spoke with Brian Lynch Chris Ryall at their FCBD signing, and Chris said that he knows who is writing Angel after #26, and that I will be happy. He also told me that it rhymed with "Ross Redon", and I told him that I would be spreading evil rumors throughout the interwebs. Funny guy, that Chris Ryall.

Ha did Chris say that and was only kidding or... was he serious? Made me do a double take there for a second. The "I will be happy" is very exciting though.

On a completly unrelated note Scott Tipton was also there and he is working an adaptation of "A Hole in the World".

Oh I'm really curious now, who would this writer be? If the writer makes us happy, he/she must be a known name for us.
