Someone on another forum pointed out that this takes place mere months (or even less?) after The Girl in Question, which showed Spike hadn't moved on from Buffy. So, if what we're looking here is an actual Spike/Frillyria relationship, it comes off a little bit as "Well, Buffy's moved on, so I guess I should go for the next best thing". I'll be getting Angel/Nina vibes one page in.
I think it's more likely to be the heat of the moment, or a ruse, or a Spike/Anya-esque affair, though. I can't imagine Brian would undercut the Fred/Wesley/Illyria storyline with anything more serious than that.

You're getting vibes from a cover?
It all fits. Everyone should calm down, it's going to be just fine.

I'm giving karma to Brian for being around to reassure us every time we get twitchy (for no good reason, as proven after reading the actual issues -- at least so far).

Now we just need a forumwide kumbayaa.
Dear Joss, grant me serenity to accept the things about the Buffy and Angel comics I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Which basically means 99.9% accepting what we've got and .1% is becoming active in the Angel Interaction contests.

I think the folks here are all kinds of awesome, but I do wish Buffy fans would learn the cardinal rules of comic book covers:
1. Covers are meant to shock and therefore sell. 2. Covers are often made before an issue is finished. 3. All a cover really is supposed to do is give us pretty art and tell us which characters will be spotlighted in the comic (and even the latter isn't always true) (ergo) 4. Comic book covers rarely accurately reflect the comic within, beyond a very, very broad context.
I actually wish they wouldn't preview covers so long before the issue comes out (looking at you, Brian Lynch, and at IDW). All it does is generate a storm over a few specks of dust.

Most of arguments here are caused by peoples speculations when they see covers. But I do like it when they release them early so I can be even more exited about the issue. I just hope Spike kicks some demon-lady butt, and if he has to hook-up with someone, please let it be Illyria and not Fred

It has, like, two of my biggest squicks ever (Spike/Spider and Spike/Fred), the former of which seems to involve hurt/comfort... but I'll forbear. Makes more sense for it to be Fred from a practical standpoint, anyway, if nothing else (actual Angel cast member, no annoying process getting the likeness rights, etc).
