Here's a Buffyfest audio interview from SDCC with Brian, mostly talking about the Spike series. Confirmation that... Groosalugg will be in it. Also, it's pretty clear that the "mystery person from Spike's past" will be Drusilla. On the canon debate front, it turns out that Joss will be reviewing and sending notes on the issues in which Willow appears, so those issues are definitely canon. And since those issues are right in the middle of an ongoing storyline, it's hard to fathom how the story (at least that arc) as a whole couldn't be taken as canon.

I so much wish that the new baddie in Vegas to be The Immortal (you know, for a perfect reason to bring decoy!Buffy in)

I love how I said that I hoped it was Groo in the SPIKE Q&A thread. Brian wasn't messing with me after all! And I'm so glad. After seeing Groo in the Lorne Special, I needed more of him. And as for Spike's person, my bet is all on Dru.

Groo, Willow, and probably Dru... I'm starting to doubt that the standard 32-page IDW floppy can withstand that much awesome.
This is well on its way to becoming a winner for IDW. Hope it stays that way!

I thought Drusilla as well.....but I seem to remember BL saying that she wasn't in the first arc. It was fairly early on....am I mental or does anyone else remember that?

Well as I have said, the events of the Spike series (i.e. him going to Vegas) spin out of Angel #38 - because Angel can't go himself, Spike offers to go-so by that logic the events of Angel are canon as well. All joking aside I wish Joss would just say yay or nay to the Angel series being canon. I personally don't care - but so many people do...and if it would end the debate either way...it would make me very happy. Happy that I dont have to hear anything about a canon debate ever again!

Yeah, same here on the canon debate. It's not really worth (to me, anyways) debating over whether or not post-After the Fall is canon. Clearly Joss isn't interested in putting much effort into directly telling Angelverse stories. And Brian Lynch has stated many many times that he's more interested in telling f@#$ing awesome stories than telling canon stories. For me, as an avid reader of both IDW's Angel title and Darkhorse's Season Eight, I pretty much accept everything they put out as the official story. And it's staying that way until Joss himself states "Hey, #A to #B didn't happen."

My canon view:
Spike is canon. No doubt. Is the current Angel series? No, not at all. Spike may be spinning out of that series, but it isn't the same story. Brian is telling one, and character-voice-tone-deaf writers are telling the other. If Spike contains information about the Angel story, than that story is canon. By story, I don't mean EXACTLY what is being told in the Angel series. I mean: It's just a plot that has been spoken of, and is only considered canon, because it was barely mentioned in a canon series. That doesn't make Bill's arc(s) canon; Not completely at least.
I hope that all makes sense. I get what I mean, but it's hard to explain. xD
I'm just hoping Brian uses Angel and Illyria as much as possible. They both need to be saved from the ongoing disaster.

Mariah and David are taking over the on-going. Not disastrous at all.

I'm actually so excited for this series. ;D It really does sound like the spiritual continuation of AtF.
Btw, I wonder what happened to Brian's plans for the title? He seemed keen on The Adventures of Spike but now it seems to just be called Spike. Personally, I prefer Spike but I remember there were a lot of ideas flying around.
Also, as exciting as all these S8 tie-in stuff is, I hope it hasn't sidelined some of Brian's original plans. I seem to remember him saying something about the Sara actress from Last Angel in Hell factoring into the story somehow. I thought that sounded interesting, but haven't heard anything about it recently.

I really don't like "Alone/Together Now" as the series title.

I really don't like "Alone/Together Now" as the series title. I think that's just the title of the first issue.

Yeah, the first issue is: 'Alone Together Now."
And issue two is: 'What Happens in Vegas Slays in Vegas."
According to Brian, each issue will have it's own 'episode' title.

Ooops I got confused and called the whole series the "Spike Alone/ Together Now" one so my comic shop owner probably thinks I'm very dumb. I love how I said that I hoped it was Groo in the SPIKE Q&A thread. Brian wasn't messing with me after all! And I'm so glad. After seeing Groo in the Lorne Special, I needed more of him. And as for Spike's person, my bet is all on Dru. Thansk for posting this link this interview was so AWESOME! I really love the anti-Slayer circus idea, I always wondered how Spike would rect to the anto-slayer propaganda. And three cheers for Betta George!

@billie Erin: Please don't double post. Use the "Modify" function to edit your posts instead of just posting another. Thanks.
I don't think your comic book store peeps think you're dumb. In fact, it may have been useful for them, since there are technically 2 SPIKE titles out at the moment, and giving them the title of the first book may have clarified the issue.

Actually, if your shop uses Diamond for distribution (as 97% of comic book shops do), they would also have Spike: After the Fall still listed as well. So yeah, giving the title of the first issue probably really helped.
