@[...]: Please don't double post. Use the "Modify" function to edit your posts instead of just posting another. Thanks. Look, Xi. Look what I found. -------------------- This is shaping up to be even better than Spike: AtF. October is next month, right? (January, February, August, October, March... yep, it's next month. Yay!) I think it's gonna do quite well. I don't consider it canon yet, but it's Lynch's story so that doesn't really matter much - it'll be awesome either way... -------------------- My canon view: Spike is canon. No doubt. Is the current Angel series? No, not at all. Spike may be spinning out of that series, but it isn't the same story. Brian is telling one, and character-voice-tone-deaf writers are telling the other. If Spike contains information about the Angel story, than that story is canon. By story, I don't mean EXACTLY what is being told in the Angel series. I mean: It's just a plot that has been spoken of, and is only considered canon, because it was barely mentioned in a canon series. That doesn't make Bill's arc(s) canon; Not completely at least. I hope that all makes sense. I get what I mean, but it's hard to explain. xD I'm just hoping Brian uses Angel and Illyria as much as possible. They both need to be saved from the ongoing disaster. But if you apply the same reasoning to Joss's stories then parts of Spike aren't canon. At least for now. *head explodes*

I had the pleasure of speaking with Brian Lynch over the weekend at a screening of his film "Big Helium Dog". He let me ask him 3 questions about "Spike". First I asked him how Willow and Spike cross paths in the "Spike" book. He said that Spike gets into a situation where he needs Willow, so he seeks her out. Second, I asked him if Spike has a soul. He answered "Yes". Finally, I asked him if we would see Drusilla. He pretty much confirmed that we would get the Dru/Spike reunion fans want to see. We also talked a little about canon, and it sure sounds like this series is canon. Anyway, Brian Lynch couldn't be a nicer guy. He even brought me a signed Angel hardcover!

Thanks for asking them! I'm very curious about Spike gets into a situation where he needs Willow, so he seeks her out - Maybe Willow will help him to have his soul back? She helped Angel with his "lost soul problem" twice... And I'm not happy with this Spike/Dru reunion... don't get me wrong I'd love to see Dru again - she is one of my fav charters, but I hope their reunion wouldn't turn to a sex reunion...

Thank you SO MUCH for coming to BIG HELIUM DOG, Jason. I appreciate it more than you know.
It's on again in a month, I think. I'll bring signed hardcovers to people that come to that too.
And I'm THRILLED with the reception to the SPIKE news. Everyone seems so excited about the series, from the fans, to IDW, it's truly been a blast.

Brian, I just reread AtF, I got so much more out of it than first time around. So thanks!! I have a question totally off topic though, you mentioned in one of your Q&a's in the back that you were writing a Bones comic. I Have to agree with your parents, I love the show. And not just for David. I would love to see those characters in comicbook form. Endless possibilities IMO. Hope so. Thanks again. Sorry don't live in LA so is Big Helium Dog going to be available in another format? DVD maybe?

I really want to see your movie and I thought it's new, but when I checked out in IMDB for Big Helium Dog, I've found out it's from 1999. I'm going to check out and in Ebay for the DVD, I hope it's available on DVD format. I'm also trilled with the news about Spike outgoing and I'm sooo happy that your Spike's tittle gets a cannon! Anyway - I love all your Spike's books and I wish your Spike's outgoing to has no end! I'd like to ask you something - is it possible Buffy to make a small cameo in Spike's series - to shows up in his dreams, just like Spike did in "Long Way To Home"? I'd love to see her drawn by Franco Urru...

Wait, so is this canon or not? or is it just certain parts that are? This is completely canon. I'm so sad to hear that this is only eight issues. I'm sure they will all be amazing, but I wish there would be more. *Sigh* We can always hope for some Brian Lynch over at Dark Horse, right? Or not? I have no idea.

God, I hope that Joss and Darkhorse won't only want to write Season 9, and no more after that. I had been looking forward for over a year to this Spike series, and now we get 8 issues, when I expected it to go on for years. I don't even care that it might never have been official canon, it would have been YEARS OF SPIKE! Now now we might only get what, a couple years of him sharing a title?
EDIT- Brian, I read that the series will just be called "Spike". Any chance that could be changed? Will get confusing when it's collected in TPB/HC since there's a already a TPB and omnibus called "Spike".

Awesome, so it would be simlear to Asylum were Spike was also thinking about contacting Willow for help, except here it would actually happen. The situation is probably magical.
Didn't doubt it for a second about the soul. Spike is not Angel and he doesn't need the lame "lost his soul"-stories.
Not happy about Dru. In a series that has already been incredibly shortened to only 8 issues, Dru feels out of place. And this issue had been dealt with twice already on the show, Spike with a soul and without never chose Dru. Dru herself is not an evolving character, she will always remain Angelus's slave and Spike deserves much better then her. I can't express how dissapointed i am in this news. It took IDW 5 years before they finally gave Spike his ongoing series and now it has been canceled before it even started. Only with Spike would shit like this happen. I don't have much faith in DH, their Spike comics when they had the license were terrible. I couldn't care less that Angel will get a new ongoing series at DH, for me there isn't a single Angel story i'm interested in. I really do hope now that Spike will find himself stuck solo in Fray's time. It would be great to get him away from the mess that is Angel and Buffy and have him start off with a clean slate.

I always thought Spike was going to be more of an extended limited series (kind of like After the Fall) rather than a true "ongoing". I'm sure Brian said a while back that he didn't intend to stay on the title more than a few story arcs, and I'm not really interested in anyone else writing it (hey, Willingham could take over! ) Besides, it's quality, not quantity, that matters. I'd rather Brian give us 8 issues of brilliant story and characterization, than have a series that drags on for the sake of it with no real purpose ( Angel ongoing, I'm looking at you!). Look at Fray, that was only 8 issues IIRC, and one of the best comic series ever (and certainly the best Buffyverse comic series). Only with Spike would shit like this happen. Wow, chip on your shoulder much? How about being grateful that he's getting any kind of series, let alone one written by a writer who really understands and cares about the character?

I'm sure Brian said a while back that he didn't intend to stay on the title more than a few story arcs, and I'm not really interested in anyone else writing it (hey, Willingham could take over! ) No, it was repeatedly stated that this was a true on-going series. Brian also said that he would continue it as long as people kept buying and were interested. Paul, kindly do not try to tell me how i'm supposed to feel. No, this is usual patern with Spike. Came close to getting a 12-episode series by Tim M. Didn't work out. Was the most certain to first get a dvd movie, didn't work out. Now we were going to get an ongoing series, again didn't work it. I'm pretty sure now that Spike is cursed to always remain a secondary character. Grateful? This is just plain business. And the workings of it are really simple. They create something, we judge what they put out and upon that judgement we decide to either give them money or not for that product. It wasn't me that made it so cold, it was them. With their constant squibeling over licenses,canon/non-canon,ect

I had a long long series of stories planned out, but alas, I'm just gonna have to tell the best one. Which is okay, right? Disappointing in way, but at least we go out with the biggest bang we can. Yes, it's canon, yes, it matters, and yes, it's the best SPIKE story I've told. And Franco's art has never been more beautiful.
And about the name...I think we should change it, too. I asked Chris and Mariah, and they agreed, so I think around issue three, there's gonna be a sweet little addition.
It's a sad week, but Shakespeare said it best when he wrote "from sad weeks come great stories". Not WILLIAM Shakespeare, my frat brother Terrence Shakespeare. Man was he eloquent AND could shotgun a beer in record time.

Brian, do you think the opportunity to write a Spike series for Darkhorse will open up? And most importantly, would you do it?
