There's some really interesting stuff in the Jeanty Q&A that just went up. Georges isn't backing off on his gloomy pronouncements of horribleness for what happens in #39. I kind of wonder at taking us through a 4+ year story arc, only to leave us wanting to slash our wrists at the end. Maybe not a great way to reward all that patience and loyalty? I dunno. I now think Willow is the betrayer, and her friendship with Buffy and the other Scoobies ends here forever. It was interesting that General Voll and the new "General" were supposed to be the same guy. I assume they aren't still supposed to be? Faith does something extraordinary next issue, relating to Angel. Sacrifices herself, maybe? She's got the Scythe, and it might be the only thing that can stop Super Twangel. I'm taking the day off from work next Wednesday so I can read the issue when it hits the stands. I hope I don't regret it... (But on the up side... Georges doesn't remember what Satsu is doing in the remainder of the season... which means she must survive!

I think Faith will break the seed with the scythe.

I might be happy with almost anything if Faith does something that makes me pump my fist and go "YEAH!" Andrew, I think you're right on about Willow, what with that little hint Georges dropped about what she's doing with the Seed's power...

Faith should survive! I hope that she saves Buffy or Giles or Xander - but she doesn't die! I agree that The Scythe should play some role in the final stand-off. It was heavily featured in the season's mythology, there must be a pay-off.

I now think Willow is the betrayer, and her friendship with Buffy and the other Scoobies ends here forever. If this happens I will die inside. Forever. I love seeing their love and friendship for each other on screen and in the comics. They have been through so much together. Their friendship can't die! (I'm mostly referring to Buffy/Willow and Xander/Willow) Sadly I can see that happening too with the way the story is heading. Like Wenxina's review (awesome btw), S8 is bridging the gap between post-"Chosen" and the Fray world. So I just keep going back to Dark Willow in TOYL in the Fray world....alone. Sure it's 200+ years in the future so obviously Buffy and the scoobies are long dead, but if you are right and she is the betrayer, it sounds like she's going to be alone sooner. It makes me so sad. I really don't want that path for her. She doesn't deserve that IMO. Ugh man....As a huge Willow fan, I'm definitely wiggin out on this.

I doubt it will be a matter of "Willow was evil all this time and we never knew!" It would be more like Wesley's "betrayal" of Angel in S3... doing what she thinks is the right thing for absolutely necessary reasons, but in a way that hurts the others.
One possible scenario is that Faith uses the Scythe to destroy the Seed, but Willow fatally wounds her while trying to stop her.
Oh, and here's another idea... the Seed breaks, and suddenly Buffy wakes up to find herself in her hospital bed from "Normal Again"...

I think that Buffy may wake up in Normal-Again-verse too - not after the destruction of the Seed but after her death. There was a hint that she has spent there her 147 days after she died in The Gift; maybe it's her personal heavenhell.

Here's my final prediction before the issue comes out on Wednesday:
Faith, acting under instructions from Giles, and possibly helped by Xander, fights Buffy and uses the Scythe to break the Seed... all four believe they are doing the right thing.
However, magic continues to operate because Willow had absorbed the power of the Seed into herself, as Aluwyn taught her. Using this power, Willow is able to reverse the Apocalypse and send all the demon hordes back where they came from, as well as cutting Twilight off from this world permanently (and freeing a very unhappy Angel from being possessed by it). But Willow can't contain the power of the Seed... it burns away her soul and replaces it.
Buffy is forced to push Willow through the last portal out of our reality as it closes, in a scene very much like what she did to Angel at the end of season 2.
Magic is banished from our world. The Slayers keep their powers for the rest of their lives, but no new ones are called. Each demon and vampire native to this world lives on until it is destroyed, but no new vampires can be created and no new demons can enter.
Decades from now, Willow finds her way back to our world, still soulless and partly insane. When she does the vampires and demons start to be allowed back in, and a new Slayer (Mel) is called.
Buffy arrives in the Frayverse, and FDW manipulates her into killing her. When everything is in place, FDW gives herself a sexual climax ("So close...") and contacts Aluwyn, asking her to give 21st Century Willow the information that leads to Buffy being brought to the Frayverse in the first place. In so doing she deceives Aluwyn, who did not want Willow to sacrifice herself. Willow then forces Buffy to kill her with the Scythe, destroying the Seed once and for all.
With that, magic is permanently banished from our world. Mel and Erin didn't see any difference there on the rooftop, because Mel will continue to be a Slayer until she dies... but she will be the last of the line. The "lurks" and demons will continue until Mel and others destroy them, at which time they will be gone forever.
But the fact that it was Buffy, the Chosen One, who destroyed the Seed, may provide some kind of cosmic loophole that allows her to get Willow back somehow (although their appointment in the Frayverse will still have to be kept). On to season 9.

Call it a good thing -- you still never know where Joss's stories will go next, so he'll continue to surprise you for a little while longer.

Sales figures are now up HERE. As AC previously reported, it ranked as the 30th bestselling book, which means it's up two spots from before. However, the numbers dropped the usual 5% or so from the previous month.

I'm hoping there will be an uptick for #39 due to the curiosity factor. It would be nice if we could get all the way through the season without dipping below 40,000 sales.
