Don't worry, being dirt broke and all, I won't be able to get this issue for a while. Probably until next month or later -sigh- Big mail order when I can afford it: Spike 1, Spike 2, Buffy 37, Buffy 38, Uncanny X-Force 1....anything else I should add? Illyria 1 comes out in november which will be nice. Yep, I've just did my order for November - Spike #2, Buffy #38 and Illyria #1

Whew, I finally got my copy. Hopefully I'll be getting them on time from now on. I like this team... Spike, Illyria, Beck and Betta George. Beck seems to be channeling Gwen Raiden quite a bit lately. The two of them should get together... fire and lightning and bustiers. More "Twilight" references, but at least this time they were funny. I'm pegging the time of this issue at right around when Whistler visited Angel... the whole "pouting on a rooftop" thing. I assume Spike's reference to "aerial sex" was just a throwaway joke and not an indication that it's already happened or that Spike knows it will happen... unless he's having some kind of precognition (which would explain a few things). And Drusilla is just... wow. Sexy, sexy Dru. I wonder if Juliet has seen this issue? Good start to the series.

I like this team... Spike, Illyria, Beck and Betta George. What makes you think Illyria is part of the team? She only cameos as a member of AI. I'm guessing (based on nothing in particular) that Groo is the mystery fourth member.

Paul, I think you're right - unfortunately Illyria won't be the part of Spike's team in Vegas. I've heard Groo and Cordy The Dragon will join Spike's team. I hope Illyria will make another appearance later. Btw-Spike makes an appearance in Illyria's mini.

Great first issue. Makes me more sad that the Spike series will only be eight issues. Stupid Darkhorse had to ruin everything.

Great first issue. Makes me more sad that the Spike series will only be eight issues. Stupid Darkhorse had to ruin everything. Stupid Joss had to ruin everything. He wanted all his creations under the one company. And while Brian Lynch's Spike series is a painful casualty, I don't see how you can argue with Joss having creative control over the entire Buffyverse. You don't know what plans he has for the Spike character.

Just read it for the first time (Shocking, right?!), and really enjoyed it! The only thing I didn't really accept was that there wasn't any build up as to why Spike was going off on his own. One moment we have a nice Team Angel fight, and then, "Oh, yeah, Spike, you should leave now for Vegas... Cause, ya'know, why not, right? We need another title at IDW. Go for it!" Don't get me wrong, it was a great issue, and considering Brian had to rewrite it all, it's great. In later issues I hope to find out why Beck is going through a 'phase', and maybe get some Spike/Illyria interaction (PLEASE! I BEG YOU!).

Stupid Darkhorse had to ruin everything. thevampirewithsoul, I’m feeling myself in the same way –sad and disappointed that these Spike series will only be eight issues. They're brilliant indeed! And I really respect the IDW team! But DH have a plan for Spike’s series too. So let give them a chance. I was so afraid about Spike coming into the hands of S. Allie, but I have to admit I love his Spike’s characterization now (And I hope he won't kill him! ). So I’m enjoying Brian’s series a lot and I’m looking forward the DH Spike’s series.

Issue 38 clears this up but if your not following the main series than it would seem kinda wonky. There's a moment where you see the four main characters (Angel,Connor,Spike, Illyria) diverge into seperate directions for their own series' except Angel and Connor who will be on their own paths in the main book.

Spike #1:
First off, I want to point out that Urru is able to draw beautiful women that look like actual beautiful women and not ‘cartoonish’ beautiful women.
Secondly, that this review is so late because I was more concerned with (and involved with) the Mid-Term elections at the time.
On to the review: the whole Vegas set-up thing takes way too many pages. And it looks stretched out like some of the earlier After the Fall stuff with Angel. It’s three pages but it looks like it could be said in one or even discussed when Spike’s at Mosaic.
Then with have Spike backstory that also takes up three pages and is stuff we already know about. So, it’s also pretty much just a space-filler. Although, this isn’t just backstory. Spike mentions Drusilla by name. He doesn’t mention Buffy. He mentions Angel by name and doesn’t mention Buffy. He talks of his time after Dru and with Harmony as pretty much him being alone, which is also interesting. But, was Angelus really there when William was sired? Or is it like a “Spike and Dru: Paint the Town Red” thing where it’s simply a metaphor or whatever?
The ‘evolution of the vampire’ page seems to simply be about the scale of evil from Turok-han to the Master, to Dracula (?) to Spike and then to Angel. And sure, souled Angel’s probably still more ‘good’ than Spike, at least before he became Twilight.
It seems that some are complaining about the Spider Harley ‘Twilight’ series. And yet there seemed to be not much complaint about Angel getting a movie and Spike being a girl in that movie. I found the Spider creating the Twilight saga to be pretty smart. It’s obviously based on Buffy and Angel, as Spike and Spider are far from what it seems Edward and Bella are supposed to be. And, Spike and Spider had a lot of sex. But, that Spider was able to make herself very rich off of her time in Hell-LA and used the angst of Spike ‘dumping her’ to her benefit is a nice thing. And it shows that Spider is in fact smart and wasn’t just a blowup doll for Spike.
There’s a very strong subtext that Spike doesn’t like ‘working’ for Angel or being a member of ‘Angel’s team’. That he wants to be the leader of his own group. And he has some very powerful allies.
And why does Spike have a really crappy motorbike? Why can’t he have a decent car? He even knows that he’s taking a fish out.
In this Issue, there’s no real indication whether “Spike: Shadow Puppets” is canon. Beck is back in Mosaic for some reason, which seems odd. And why is the caretaker or whoever getting on Spike for Spike’s possible desire to have sex with Beck. Are they treating Beck’s case as if she’s a mental patient and doesn’t need Spike pawing her? And, if so, why did they let Beck meet Spike dressed as she was? And why is Betta George back there?
Interesting info on Beck: Emotionally unstable (read: Drusilla) and something about an origin of or with a fire elemental? And rapid healing. So, is Beck possibly a demi-god? I like Beck’s character and her possibly being a demi-god or whatever makes her more interesting.
The aerial sex reference and Beck being 22 and her birth year being 1989: WTF? Is this supposed to mean that this is set in the future? And yet Spike is already so cool with Angel? Two very sloppy things to put in the comic.
Beck is beautiful, hot, and has superpowers. And obviously still into Spike. And met him dressed like that; with extremely easy to access or remove clothing. The top has a zipper in the front as well as the micro-mini. Plus, she’s wearing a long leather duster. Of course, Drusilla doesn’t seem too concerned about whatever want or feelings Spike may have for Beck. And given that Spike in the opening didn’t even mention Buffy by name, it seems that there’s still a possibility of Spike/Dru.
Beck hasn’t been to Vegas before.
Drusilla’s still into S&M. Or BDSM.
So far, in the supposedly canonical comics, it seems that Drusilla can get pretty much anyone in the supernatural world. And this new guy seems to be another powerful person that Drusilla is just using.
And, hey, Dru’s back. So, where’d she go in #25? Did she go to Heaven, another dimension? What? After time was reversed, was she simply back in LA?
And something interesting is that: there’s been three major movies so far that Spike talks about with himself and some really hot brunette in such a relationship. And it’s obviously Spike. So, is this possibly how Buffy knew that Spike was back? And is this why Spike maybe simply assumed that Buffy would have already known he was back? Besides, the whole Angel movie thing that had a Spike character, albeit that one was a girl.

Awesome! Slightly different from what I expected but awesome! It kinda shows from the lengthy back story that this was originally going to be an ongoing. Also, the continuity stuff makes things a bit confusing but I think it's one of those thoughts we shouldn't think about too much. Art was fantastic again. Colouring too. Really missed that. Brian said issue #3 was his best work out of the first 3 issues and after reading this I kinda see why he'd say that. I think the whole series was plotted as an ongoing and it would be hard to convey where the later parts of the story were coming from if the beginning had been edited out too much. So he may have had less freedom here. Regardless, it made for some pretty good comedy. I'm not exactly a Twilight-hater but the parody was done brilliantly. It also expressed the adventure thing well. Unlike Spike:AtF, this story can get as big as it needs to. Spike's characterisation is a bit different from that on Buffy but I've always liked this Spike better. And the transition to Buffy will definitely be A LOT smoother than Angel's. Also, Spike's actually in charge of the *whole* story and not just a part of it like he was on Spike:AtF so that's another plus. Loving his interactions with Betta George and Beck. I wish Illyria was part of this too. Or at least Spider. Overall, a pretty good start. It introduced all the elements well. I'm not quite sure what to expect from the upcoming books but maybe that's the point. Nice to see Drusilla back. Eager to see Lynch's take on Sprusilla. And the mystery part has been planned quite well, too, compared to how it's being done over on Buffy. I hope it lasts till the final issues. Issue 38 clears this up but if your not following the main series than it would seem kinda wonky. There's a moment where you see the four main characters (Angel,Connor,Spike, Illyria) diverge into seperate directions for their own series' except Angel and Connor who will be on their own paths in the main book. Oh noes! Now I'll have to get hold of *that* one. And maybe the rest of that arc as well. Um... actually, I think I'll first see if the upcoming Angel and Illyria books provide any sort of explanation and if *that* isn't enough *then* I'll read issue #38.

Finally read this issue. LOVE Brians work. He captures the universe and characters wonderfully. However i'm in the camp that absolutely HATED the 'Twinkle' thing, i'm not a Twilight fan by any means but i thought it was pretty cheap and corny to do a paraody within the Buffyverse. It just seemed a little bit out of character for the series to me. Aw well. As long as it doesnt come up again i shall remain a happy camper.
