I read this last night... I was happy that it was only a One-Shot because I think I would have lost interest in a double issue. I was also very happy with the look of Frankenstein.

Yeah, he looked a lot like a few of the Monster from Supernatural which I thought was cool.

I got this a few days ago, but have been short on time for the internet so couldnt post.
Well I loved it. Only complaint was that it was too short! Pity it couldn't have been longer. But it was a great short story. Angelus was characterised perfectly. I wonder did he try and scam a lot of others out of their money back in the day. Well he had to get money somehow to keep Darla in the luxury she loved...as well as all those hotels with the views:)
I liked Byrne's Frankenstein monster. It has been a long time since I have read the originalbook...but I think I may have to get it out for Hallowe'en! I don't know if any of you have read the Angel tie-in novels, but there is one where Angelus and Darla are there the night that Mary Shelley comes up with the story of Frankenstein. Fun little tie in:)
The story itself was slight, but there was enough chills to make it Hallowe'en worthy. The scene where Angelus snapped the butlers neck was really disturbing. We have seen him to a lot of horrible things but that seemed so...hands on. It's one thing to see him drain someone...but snapping someones neck like that. Ouch! The fight scene was great too - I loved how Angelus tried to drown the monster in order to evade the villagers. I wonder did it survive or did he unwittingly help it to gain the peace it craved?
All in all a great little story...which makes me very happy to know that next there there are 2 more Byrne 'Angelus' (I believe rather than 'Angel') stories on the way. Looking forward to more info on them!

So I've read it and I have to say that it's nice, but not great.
It lacks something, I'm not sure what.
It could be that I read Frankenstein just a few months ago, and I don't remember the monster being that vindictive in the end of the book. It could be me remembering things wrong, but did the monster not feel regret in the end? Or at least closure?
Since that's how I remember it, I feel that the monster is out of character.
And of course, every time I read the title I roll my eyes. It's Frankenstein's monster Angelus meets, not Frankenstein himself.
Other than those two things (which are annoying, but can be overlooked) I liked the story. A bit short, but I often find one-shots too short, so that's not suprising.
Angelus was very much in character, and although I'm not sure the monster was in character, he was written 3-dimensional enough.
The art was also very nice. I wouldn't mind this artist doing more work on the Angel series. Or the Buffy series. I like Jeanty's art, but I feel I need something a bit more realisticly drawn in the Buffyworld, something less "cartoony".

And of course, every time I read the title I roll my eyes. It's Frankenstein's monster Angelus meets, not Frankenstein himself. But since Victor Frankenstein is his "father", is it so wrong to apply the Frankenstein family name to the monster as well? I know it's not officially his name, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. In pop culture, the character is known as Frankenstein so the title Angel vs. Frankenstein is accurate.

Yes, pop culture wise it's okay to call Frankenstein's monster Frankenstein. But it's not ... canon? authentic?
Not sure what to call it, it just makes me roll my eyes. I sometimes call the monster Frankenstein too, but I'm not writing a comic. The writer had obviously some knowledge of the original book to write this comic, so the title seems way off.
But the "father" explanation pleases me somewhat. Thanks for the fanwanking.

Hmm... Everyone seems to like it, so I might get it. I'm not big on the Angel comics, so I'm a little hesitant.

In case you're a Angelus fan you should definitly get it.
It has that flashback feel to it, like from the shows.

Well for those of you that liked Angel vs Frankenstein you will be glad to read this little nugget of info from John Byrne's forum. He posted this in request from a poster for more Angel vs Frankenstein stories:
I wonder if this is part of his 2 new Angelverse projects for next year...I hope it's a 3rd:)

Oh, HERE'S the thread for this book. I'm silly. I enjoyed it. I really wish there were more of these kinds of books, detailing the journey of Angelus and Darla before the re-ensouling.

I think we should change the title and first post into being about both issues, to keep it simple.

Thought i already had, but I changed the title to reflect both issues. Also added the cover and solicitation for issue 2.

Nice solicit. So in the 1920s Angel saves a puppy and then fights Frankenstein's monster again. Good decade for him? I think it's very interesting that we're going to see Angel now instead of Angelus. That alone should give the second book a more distinct, "different" feeling from the first one. Can't wait!

Idk If anyone else got this but It was ok. Not the best of stuff we've gotten from Byrne. In the past we've seen Angel as reclusive and he seems OOC in how willing in this issue he is to involve others in the supernatural world so nonchalantly.
The other thing that was a bit off was how Frankenstein was mysteriously captured and contained for as long as he had been. I'm sure there was more that could have been said about that but other than that it was a nice end to a nice concept.

I needed to re-read this before I could post about it.I was a bit underwhelmed on 1st reading.I had a few problems with some of the plot points, but enjoyed it more on subsequent readings.
-Angel working in an asylum;actually Angel working anywhere. The big joke has always been "How does Angel live without any income", but if he was working at this point then it makes sense it would be in a menial job, him being an Irish immigrant and all.I suppose he must have worked at some stage-he had to pay for clothes and a place to live after all, but it was a hit jarring at first. But he couldn't have sat around moping for a hundred years could he:-)
-Angel is much more chatty here than I would have thought at this time.It has been 20 years since he came to the states, so I suppose he must have gotton a bit more used to living amongst people, but again it was a but jarring on 1st read.
-I liked the idea that Frankenstein was also 'cursed' with being haunted by the ghosts (memories) of the people that had died to give him life-nice parallel to Angel.
-I'm glad that Angel was able to give Frankenstein peace.
It was an enjoyable story, not as good as the 1st part, or Byrne's other Angel work, but a nice coda to the first story. I'm sad that this is the last historical comic from IDW (and maybe ever), but am glad to have what we have. _________________
