Hmm, never been a fan of Runge as most of you know but I suppose he's an acceptable cover artist. Still prefer Jenny's, it's a big improvement over some of her more boring recent covers.
Is that meant to be James? I thought Willingham would have killed him off by then. Hmm, I can't help wondering if Willingham actually just left in a strop at the news of the DH move, and Tischman and Huehner are having to tie up his unfinished plots. Pure speculation on my part, but it wouldn't be surprising given Willingham's previous hissy fit.

It looks like Eddie to me. Hard to say though without a larger cover.

It looks like Eddie to me. Hard to say though without a larger cover. Could be Eddie, although his hair looks a little long. I hope it is James, purely because it'd be nice to have a fancy cover image of him for his Wikia article. And that's after me slagging off Runge's art!

I have always been a big Runge cover fan, I really love it.. I think it's James. :/ His covers are infinitely superior to his interior work, and I do like some of them, but there's always a slight awkwardness to his poses and proportions IMO. The Boys and Their Toys cover, for example, where Angel looks like he has a giant inflatable hand. This one is quite good, he's just not my favourite artist in general, that's all.

I'm going to bet my money on James. I thought he would have been killed off by this issue, but maybe Willingham actually has something planned for him. -Gasp- (Or someone does, at least.) I'm betting on James, because it looks like he's on at least one of the covers, and the second one would probably be him. We've yet to see a realistic looking picture of James, so maybe this is him.
But yes, both covers are AMAZING. So realistic, both of 'em, which is rare.

Is that meant to be James? I thought Willingham would have killed him off by then. Not sure. Willingham is off the title with #36 (the last issue that just came out), anyway, so it's be Tischman and Mariah killing Jamerah. I'd hoped he'd be dead by #38, as he is a huge threat and I'd rather there only be only major threat in the final arc... W&H. But I trust the team either way. Naw.

I'm just happy to get more Runge covers before ... you know "the change". His covers always have a sense of epicenes to them. I wonder if the lights be hide mean something... do the artist get any story input when doing the covers? or not?

It IS indeed James. The cover was just meant to show Angel, James, and Conner together somehow. Thank you everyone for the comments!! I really appreciate it. Everyone here is very honest and it means a lot.
Also, Hallow Thorn, I do get a quick description of each issue before I start the covers. The lights in the background don't directly relate to the story though. I can't really give any spoilers, but that's a great question!
This cover is just character-driven, and the rest will most likely be a mix of covers with actual scenes from the comic, and ones like this.
I may be painting them all, but it possible that one will be in the regular style.
I'm just honored to be a part of Angel again, and I'm also really enjoying Jenny's amazing covers as well. She has major major talent and has done some very nice work for this book.
Anyway, again, thanks everyone!!

Updated the first post with Runge's larger cover (Thanks Nick!).
I think with James on both covers, it's probably safe to say he's still alive in this arc. Maybe he has a connection with W&H (considering his large scale hoodwink, I wouldn't put it past him), and is a reason that they return?

that would be cool. What if james were....a Senior partner? It's possible since theyre not supposed to have corporeal forms except in the form of those demons that they use for the 75 year reviews. It would explain the timing that he came into the verse too...hmm

James being a Senior Partner could work. Interesting!

I really like both Frison's and Runge's covers very much!
As someone said Runge's covers have a certain epicness, and I really think that Frison does a great job, when she does some of the more experimental stuff - she rarely makes the characters in her covers stand in heroic poses, which makes her covers stand out from most of the other covers. When Frison is good, she's damn good, and when she's bad, well that's just the nature of doing something special; sometimes you miss.
I may buy the Angel series again from issue # 38 and till the end, since Willingham is gone:o)

Even though you might not be a fan of the Willingham run you may want to skim through summaries of them since the arcs will be connected .
