Right so you walk in through the Summer's front door, and turn left into the living room. You then walk right to the end of the living room and turn right, now between you and the kitchen there's another room. You know, the one she throws up in. What is that room? We only see it like three times and I have no idea what that room is for. Does anyone have any idea?

The den, or just a space for looking out at the back yard window?

It is just a "sitting room" that leads to the porch. I have a lot of friends with sitting rooms that never use them either lol.

I always thought sitting rooms and lounges were the same thing?

I think it's just a sitting room or a reading room maybe

Yeah, I always thought it was the den, too. What really gets me is, the Summers' house only has one bathroom and it's upstairs. I actually just realized this not too long ago. I had always assumed there was a bathroom downstairs as well but apparently not. A house that big and only one bathroom? That's crazy! How did they manage with so many people living in the house at various times? Plus, if you really gotta go having to walk all the way upstairs would certainly be inconvenient. I dunno, it just seems odd to me that a good size house like that would only have one bathroom. Just doesn't seem very practical to me. Sorry to go a little off-topic there, I occasionally like to ramble about random and unimportant things.

It's also a good thing they never finished their basement, what with the flooding, fighting and kidnapping going on down there...

I dunno, it just seems odd to me that a good size house like that would only have one bathroom. Just doesn't seem very practical to me. That is kind of odd. My grandparent's previous house, which was smaller than the Summer's home, had 1 full bathroom (toilet, bathtub/shower, & sink) and 2 half bathrooms (toilet, shower, and sink but no tubs). So yea, I would think there would be at least a half bath somewhere. Wait, now that I think about it isn't there a bathroom connected to Joyce's (Willow & Tara's/Buffy's) room? Or is that the same bathroom that also has a hall entrance?

I think Joyce may have had an ensuite bathroom, we see her packing things to go to hospital and I'm sure it's not the same one as the main bathroom.

I think there is a main bathroom, upstairs, another one that connects buffy and joyce's room, and more then likely there is a half bath somewhere on the first floor. Perhaps attached to this mystery den...

I'm also confused about the kitchen, I'm sure it only has one door facing the front of the house and that sometimes leads to the dining room and sometimes to the hall...

The kitchen opens out onto the back porch; there's no entrance from the front of the house to the kitchen. I wouldn't call the little room Buffy throws up in (is that the only notable thing that ever happened there?) a den. I usually think of the den as a slightly more isolated room -- a bedroom that isn't used for sleeping, or a semi-recreational space that's a little less public than the living room. This map refers to it as a sitting room.

^^ Two back doors I have never noticed that either. It's amazing the things we still don't realize, even after years of watching this show.

I didn;t mean a door in he kitchen that opens out to the front of the house, I mean the kitchen door that doesn't open out to the back porch or the room we're discussing. 'cos I'm quite sure in The Body she goes from the kitchen into the hall, whereas in other scenes she's gone from the kitchen into the dining room. Are there two doors there?
EDIT: I looked at the map and it makes sense that the door into the hall I'm thinking of was from the room we're discussing.
I'm also going to mention I'm not sure the map has the upstairs right. I didn't think Buffy's room was that close to the stairs, and also I don;t remember there being two doors to the bathroom in any scene of the bathroom

where is this map you keep mentioning? This map refers to it as a sitting room. It's hyperlinked, but I put it in bold to make it more noticeable. Great find, btw, tkts! I wonder about that unoccupied room on the 2nd floor though. Can't recall off the top of my head if there was a door signifying a room, or if it was a hall closet.

It doesn't help that the sets themselves are sometimes inconsistent. See this post about whether the staircase is straight or curved.

Like others I always thought that it was some sort of den or back room reserved just for the family or very close friends.
