I agree with what everyone seems to be saying - Yes they do, they either shift or get stronger or develop more.
My favourite episode constantly change, and episodes I originally wasn't fond of now have special places in my heart.
I too used to dislike s4, but I feel now it has some fantastic episodes - it's just the over-arc that I'm not fond of. S6 I used to feel was too dark and depressing and then I realised I had 3 favourite episodes in that season so I realised that when I generalise all episodes of a season i miss the important details!
Buffy (the character) has a bit of a love/hate relationship with me. Sometimes I love her in particular scenes (I'm cookie dough! - comes to mind...) and other times I hate her for a long period of time, (first half of s6)...
And I have to say I change my opinions based on how I'm feeling at the time too, I guess it gives me different perspectives.
haha I'm a fickle creature.

I like Season 4 now a lot more than I did, but it's still my least favorite season other than Season 1. I really realized what it is too recently when trying to watch both Season 4 of Buffy and Season 1 of Angel together the way they were originally aired. Season 4 is a lot better if you can get through it faster. When you intersperse it with Angel or when you watch it over the course of a year like it was originally aired, the overall arc can seem slow and uninteresting.
I also used to hate Spike when the show originally aired. I'm not a big Spuffy fan and I think the happening of that combined with me not liking the fan reaction to those who were pro-spuffy turned me off way more than I normally would have been. Now though, years later, while I'm still not for Spuffy, it doesn't cause me to not like Spike like I used to.

What I didn't realize the first time around is that Angel is such an ass-hole for the whole second half of season 3 You mean, when Angel is all distraught over losing his baby son, thinking he's dead after he was taken by one of his closest, most trusted friends? And then when he comes back he's a teenager who was raised to hate him and tries to kill him on sight? You mean that second-half of season 3? Sorry, but I fail to see how anyone can be blamed for not being a super-nice guy after that, but maybe that's me... Yes that second-half of season three Well yes you are right, But I didn't say that would be out of character, I just did not realise how angry he got from loosing Connor the first time I watched the series. I don't know, I'm just not a big fan of that whole bit in Angel... Alot of what happens towards the end of thet season is just Cordy "counciling" Angel 24-7; no that there is anything wrong with that, she is just helping him out. It goes too soap opera on me

It goes too soap opera on me I'll have to rewatch Season 3 again because the last time I saw it was a year and a half ago and that was the first time I'd seen it since the show originally aired. I remember thinking that the beginning of Season 3 was awesome though.

Stuff people say doesn't usually change my opinions, but time passing sure does.
For example, I've found myself a lot less interested in the Jossverse. I have other interests that are way stronger, and that wasn't teh case a year or so ago. Don't get me wrong, I still love Buffy and everything, but it's just not at the top of my list now.

Their place however is slowly being taken over. *cough* Lost and Glee. *cough* Which is not really that bad considering it's been off air for over 5 years.

I could have sworn I commented here. I'll post again. A few of my opinions have changed since re-watching Buffy. I couldn't stand Glory, Drusilla or Caleb on the first watch. I actually enjoy & love all three characters now. Characters such as Dawn & Kennedy don't annoy me as much as they did. I use to despise them and fast forward through all their scenes. I can now tolerate them which is a good thing. I don't like the potential Slayer's storyline in S7 anymore. The whole idea of there being more than one Slayer takes away Buffy & Faith's significance IMO. I could tolerate there being Faith because two Slayers aren't that bad. Their still pretty significant...but an army of Slayers? Hate it! Also the more I watch the Angel series, the more I love it. The first time I watched it, it was just okay. Things that will most likely never change is my love for Spike & Buffy. Angel,Willow,Xander & Oz are pretty high on my list as well.

Time, or rather rewatching, has definitely changed my opinion of the show. The first time I watched through the show (all DVD) I think I was somewhat in a honeymoon phase with the show and saw everything and every episode as amazing. I mean, I obviously liked some seasons, episodes and characters more than others. I also used to view everything Joss did as infallible.
And then I gave it some time to settle in, and I obviously still love it, but I begin to realize the many flaws the show has. I think it is still legitimately one of the best shows ever put on air but there was a lot of mistakes the writers made along the way with characters or episodes that before I dismissed but now I am able to readily admit to people.
I also used to view season 6 and 7 as my favourite, and I think that mostly had to do with the fact that when I was watching I watched them all so close together and my love just kind of grew as I watched it so it plateau'd at the end of the series, and I had gotten so obsessed with it at that point. Now I view season 6 as probably one of the worst seasons in the Jossverse. I came from liking the end the most to appreciating the middle run of the series more (3-5). I also didn't really like season 4 that much but upon rewatching it's near the top of my favourite seasons in the Buffyverse.
I also liked Xander when I first watched through the show. The more I watch it the more I hate him. I just realized how much of an awful person he is to Buffy throughout the show. Sure he has some redeeming moments but I just find him mostly to be a huge ass.

I'ma just stick to my feelings on s4 for this post, I think, because it seems to be the least consistent.
At first, I didn't exactly realize how awful the season was going to be (main arc-wise). I really liked the inclusion of Spike because, at the time, I was a huge Spike fan. I didn't like Riley at all. I mourned the loss of Oz, but loved the addition of Tara. I was 15 when I first watched it, so I couldn't really relate to the whole "college experience" thing, but I mostly enjoyed the season when I ignored the main Big-Bad and his inherent lameness. (Did I mention that I couldn't ever watch all the way through 'Beer Bad' because my DVD from the library didn't work properly? Heck yes, dodged a bullet).
I found myself shunning the season once I read more online, realizing the overwhelming negative feelings of the fandom. My anxiety towards the prospect of college only fueled my avoidance.
Now, a few years later, I really do like the season. The college stuff seems to calm me down, now. I look at it like I looked at the earlier seasons of Buffy: as a reminder that, no matter how bad school life for me could be, it will never be as bad as in Sunnydale. I find the charm in individual episodes and over-all character development. I mostly ignore Riley. xD

^^ I rediscovered my love for Buffy almost 3 years ago, when I was really struggling with college. Had already dropped out from one and thought I would never fit in. Season 4 of Buffy actually helped me deal with stuff and I graduated this year. It really made me realize that I could do it! Guess it's one of the reasons why BTVS is so important to me.
OT, my views have changed a lot with the many viewings I've had. I used to like Bangel (though, I've always shipped Spuffy), now, they kind of annoy me. I'm still sort of ok with the ship, I just can't see the appeal anymore. Maybe it's also because I've recently watched "Angel" as well, and got to see Cangel in action. *shrug*
Also, at first, I just didn't get why people loved Faith so much. Now, I just want more of her. I do understand her journey better now, though, season 3 is still hard for me to watch. I still have problems with what she's done, I just don't have that many problems with her character anymore.
The sad part is that, the more I watch the show, the less I'm liking Willow. Actually, I'm kind of conflicted about her right now. It makes me sad, because I loved her character for years, but, now I'm just finding difficult to remember why.
Anyway, I plan to do a rewatch when I go back home for Christmas. Maybe that will help me figure things out.

Time definitley changes my opinion. Most often for the better, but sometimes it just changes.
Originally I hated Anya (I always sort of reacted to her the way Willow did), but I grew to love her. I also originally hated Dawn (needs no explanation, lol), but grew to understand her, and now I care about her a lot actually. Also hated Kennedy, and while she's still not someone I couldn't live without, I'm not constantly plotting her fictional death.
The other obvious thing for me is that I used to be a die hard Bangel shipper. Now I'm definitely Spuffy, though I still respect Bangel. I'm even getting on board with Cangel. My issue with their relationship isn't them together, but who Cordelia became. It's not even that her being all noble is bad, I just feel like her spunk was taken away and that's an excellent Cordelia trait.
Now we'll see if I can get on board with Dander (Xawn?) and maybe grow to love righteous Cordelia.
