I haven't re-read the first arcs recently, but has there been a mention of Anya? I find it strange that after all that Xander has been through, we haven't really gotten more than a line (if that) of Anya. It wouldn't be totally out of the left field to see or hear about Anya, especially after Renee's death. I mean, Oz was featured in an arc, Riley got his own standalone in addition to being featured in issues, and Tara has been referenced many time, and was in a flashback and in the Willow one-shot. Hell, even lesser characters like Amy and Warren have appeared. I know this was a rumor, but the word was that during Chosen (And even in Selfless, but Joss had her stay) Emma Caulfield asked for Anya to be killed and said that she didn't want to be in Buffy any more. As I said, this was a rumor, but I can believe it. I wonder if this has anything to do with Anya being missing from season 8, even though she was such an important character in the series. I miss Anya.

Think about it like Cordelia in Angel season 5. Around for four seasons, but then forgotten and ignored in the final season, except for one season....and as for Anya, she was referenced in Wolves at the Gate part II, I think. Andrew mentions her in passing

At least Cordelia got more than one little meaningles reference, and she even appeared later in After the Fall.
Maybe if Dawn is killed in Last Gleaming, Anya's ghost will appear to a heartbroken Xander and help him get back on his feet? (that'd be pretty damn awesome actually, I almost want Dawn to die now lol)

I think it is just a matter of time. I'm sure "Off Screen" Xander and the Scoobies have mourned Anya properly. With so little space in each issue, there just isn't time to talk about how much everyone misses her. I think it just hasn't fit in to the story. They found a way for Tara to appear with it being cheesy or out of place.

^whawha?!?! i don't think she has been referenced yet because it was such a long time ago. She was a big impact on there lives but think about that it was 4 years ago since she died(since the first issue). They probably did mourn for her within the first year of the finale but now they had to move on.

I can't think of a place in season 8 where anything happened to remind us of her. Now if they went back to the Magic Box for some reason ...

There is no Magic Box. Even before Sunny-D went from being an outie to an innie.

yeah it's pretty odd that she hasn't been mentioned at all. just the "xander mourning (or avoiding said mourning) as draculas man-bitch" stuff. (as far as i can remember right now) but i think, the reason she wasn't brought back like all the other random characters in the comics, is because her humour and odd behaviour wouldn't quite work in the comic medium or not as well as it did on screen, for me at least. it was all about delivery. i loooved anya, there should be a thread devoted to anya quotes IMO, haven't checked. but yeah... except maybe if vengeance demons played into the season 8 storyline, then anya would be the obvious character. my two cents

And, as I said in another thread in relation to Tara coming back, I think bringing people back from the dead all of the time really cheapens the character and the moment that they left us. The fact that when we originally met Anya she fled from disaster and then when we last saw her she died trying to fight to save the world says a lot. I wouldn't want that to be undermined in any way.

Also, a televised Season Eight would not have featured Anya. Even though the comics can feature whoever and whatever they want, I respect that they're keeping things somewhat realistic from a production standpoint.

Poor Anya. She's going through a bad case of the forgotten fallen friend syndrome. No scoobie endeared themselves more to me than she did during the series, with the exception of Spike. Both know (or, in Anya's case, learnt) how to kill, how to die, how to pay, how to love, all the way. They knew how to live.
I think it's a mistake to create a storyline in which there's no chance to mourn such a one as her 'on screen'. At the very best, it's a big-arse departure from the series' determined focus on emotion through action.

There is no Magic Box. Even before Sunny-D went from being an outie to an innie. What? The Magic Box was pretty much destroyed in the rather violent Buffy/Giles vs. Dark Willow showdown. The last time we saw it, Anya was picking up the debris of her previous livelihood in "Same Time Same Place".

The last time we saw it, Anya was picking up the debris of her previous livelihood in "Same Time Same Place". And bitching at Willow about it, just before making sexy magic with her. Seemed like the building should have been salvageable, though. At least one ceiling beam came down and there was a hole in the ceiling where Dark Willow shot her heat-seeking fireball... but Xander should have been able to fix the place up in a jiffy.

I thought BlueJay might mean something else, because of the context (I assume that midwesterwatcher meant the location were The Magic Box was, as if "What if they took a stroll past where Anya used to work, so they can reference her" but that he forgot Sunnydale was destroyed) which is why BlueJay's comment confused me.
I assumed he meant that it was destroyed, not that it never existed or something, but I wanted to make sure since the comment was open for interpretation.
... I know I'm confusing.

Xander left the group for months to live with Dracula in solitude. I think thats a pretty big reaction to Anya's death. the story has to progress, its completely boring if all the characters do is stand around and mope about all the people they're lost. Angel's whole arc in season 5 was built around the fact that he lost Cordelia (and then Fred) Just because they're not directly mentioned doenst mean the characters actions arent influenced by their loss.
