And you're right. Angel never tried to rape Buffy. He successfully raped her. Ummm, excuse me, but when? If you're talking statutory rape, I'm sorry, but it's a weak argument. Buffy was seventeen (which, btw, is the legal age in the state of New York and is one year over the legal age in Australia and other countries, as well as other various states in the US) and the sex was not only initiated by Buffy but was completely consensual. I don't buy it, never have, especially since I grew up in Australia where the legal age is sixteen. |

^ I agree. Unless you're talking about statutory, Angel never raped Buffy. I mean I'm a Spuffy, but Angel never did that. Even if you see it as statutory, that sort of makes both Spike and Angel creepy, I mean either way, at 16 or 20 they're both over a hundred years older than her. The human equivalent in that case would be like Buffy dating someone older than Giles. I think the rules have to be bent a little (or a way lot, lol) when it comes to either relationship.

[/quote] True. Spuffy was certainly an unusual relationship, especially compared to real word, but Bangel was just creepy. I mean, the Buffy/Angel relationship didn't start when Buffy was 17. It started when she was 16 and even before that Angel fell in love with her when she was a freshman, meaning she was either 14 or 15. |

Statutory rape, while legally is wrong is not in the same boat as real rape. Buffy was not screaming or crying or trying to beat Angel off when they had sex. Angel did not force himself on her, and that is the real difference here. Angel committed statutory (consensual) rape. Spike tried to force himself on, Spike literally tried to rape her. |

I have to agree with AngelFaith here, while yes it may be Statutory Rape If both parties are consensual it shouldn't be considered Rape. I had a friend who was dating someone three years older then her. A Junior when we were Freshman, they were high school sweet hearts. Her parents aproved of their relationship and him. However when he was 19 and she was 16, she thought she had gotten pregnant. THE STATE arrested her boyfriend and charged him with statutory rape. NowI know that she was 16 and "couldn't make desisions" but her parents knew what she was doing and approved. His parents knew, and approved... Her boyfriend got a sentace of 7 years and now has to register as a sex offender, my friend waited from him. They sent letters, she visited him... This isn't a case of a 19 year old tricking a 16 year old into having sex, this is a case of LOVE. Just as it was with Buffy and Angel, and Spike.
And why does the rape even matter, it isn't like the police can arrest Spike, or Angel for it. Buffy has moved on and I think we should too...
