I don't think that spike was a funny character. Like I said in the other thread, all he had was a funny line here and there - sometimes spoken in metaphors, sometimes to be sarcastic, but definately not to be funny - and that was really it.

Congratulations to TMS for being the first to vote no. Hopefully he will be the last.

Spike is my favorite character, and although he wasnt there for comic relief, some of his lines were so darkly funny. And the situations he got himself into were kinda funny too, but not like a shallow quick laugh xander or andrew funny, a much deeper funny. Like when he was the one selling the demon eggs in as you were and he pretended not to be, it was just funny i dont know im not explaining it right but yes Spike is funny.

Not the last. We are building an army!! Spike was an INTERESTING character. Liked the evolution. But his sense of humor, let's say he had one, made me yawn.

Spike was a very funny character. He wouldn't have become so popular if he wasn't. There are 3.5 different versions of Spike though, all of which were funny in their own way:
Version 1: Pre-chip Spike. - Spike was incredibly evil and wanted nothing more to kill Buffy any chance he could get. He was sarcastic right off the bat and was always ready to throw a wise-crack around if he needed to. His funny-ness (that a word?) usually was tied to some sort of evil act though and was very unconventional, which I guess was fitting because he was a very unconventional vampire.
Version 2: Post Chip Spike / Pre Madly-In-Love-With-Buffy-Spike - Spike was introduced in Season 4 as a Cordelia-esque character. And it worked. He was always complaining about his condition and his attention went completely from trying to kill Buffy, to relying on her and the Scoobies to stay alive. He was always around to throw around an insult or sarcastic comment, but was then shooed away before he could do any harm. This was when Spike was at his funniest, imo. The scenes where he is stuck up in Giles' apartment begging for blood are some of the funniest on the show.
Version 3: Post Soul Spike - This is where Spike was his least funniest. He was more or less just trying to do the right thing, to get Buffy to trust him again. He didn't throw around much in the way of sarcastic jibes or witty insults. He only had a few funny moments, that I can recall (tackling Buffy in "Him" and his motorcycle ride with Andrew).
Version 3.5: Spike on Angel - I didn't count this version as an entirely new one, because Spike was basically just a mixture of his Season 4/5 self and Season 7. He was a champion and wanted to do what was right, but he wasn't a sappy puppy dog anymore, because surprise, Buffy wasn't around. He and Angel had some hilarious arguments (and fights), and Spike had some of his best moments on Angel.
So those are my thoughts, and hopefully I might have convinced some of the nay-sayers. These are all just my opinions, so if you disagree then please feel free to say why. Spike is far from my favorite character, but I just think it is silly to say he wasn't funny.

I agree with everything you said (nice summary by the way!). It all comes down to what I've been saying. Spike isn't my favorite character but I can hear you guys when you say he IS funny. Just not my type of humor. But I guess we all agree to say he is not really a comic relief in Buffy in the sense of "shallow quick laugh Andrew funny" as Richie said.

Wyndam, you didn't include Season 5-6 Spike, who was pretty damn funny. ("Out... for... a... walk. ...Bitch.") I voted "Yes", by the way.

The quotes didn't really convince me, sorry! ;-) I stick to not funny... to me. But I admit that "out for a walk bitch" is a classic. Awesome line.

I voted yes.I thought that he had alot of funny moments(the one that sticks out in my head at the moment is in S5 when he was talking to the dummy dressed as Buffy) I can understand how people could find him not funny, though.I have a slightly morbid sense of humor,so I could find humor in Spike where others might not.

For those that watch "Lost", to me, Spike and Sawyer: same character. And who would say Sawyer's not funny?

Spike is funny!! he's really funny he has said some of my favorite lines in buffy and angel
"It's a big rock. I can't wait to tell my friends. They don't have a rock this big"
"Is everyone here very stoned?"
" Dad can drive. He's bound to have some classic midlife-crisis transport. Something red, shiny, shaped like a penis"
"Out ..for...a..walk........Bitch"
And my favorite
Woman: Thank you! Thank you! That thing was gonna kill me!
Spike: Well what do you expect? Out alone in this neighborhood? I got half a mind to kill you myself you half-wit!
Woman: What?
Spike: I mean honestly, what kind of retard wears heals in a dark alley? Take two steps break your bloody ankle.
Woman: I was just trying to get home!
Spike: Well get a cab you moron! And on the way if a stranger offers you candy, dont get in the van! Stupid cow.
How can people say that spikes not funny
