Reading both Fred's and Wesley's last words hurt me.

I just finished Angel again yesterday, and I have to say that I also love that Lindsey's last word is "Angel". Such a great rivalry, and he couldn't beat him, didn't even get killed by him.

lol This kind of statement always gets me. Fans can totally ignore the comics. They can not read them and only choose to look at the television series. I don't really get that, but it's totally their perogative. But it doesn't make the series any less canon. There is no "personally" with canon, it's just the way it is. I can't, personally, think that Oak Trees aren't really trees. It just doesn't work. The whole point of canon is that it is the strict storyline, and it isn't really up for debate when it's announced that something is canon. The comics are canon, because Joss said they are. Dassit. Its not a choice, im actually incapable of viewing the comics as canon for the reason I stated above. That its not just Joss' story anymore, but also the actors, and their strengths and chemistry with other actors greatly influence the direction of the story. If Joss did a Buffy movie tomorrow and had to recast half the characters to make it happen, I wouldn't view that as canon either.

You can't "not view" something as canon, because canon isn't up for discussion. The whole point of having a canon in a fictional universe is that canon is the solid story. It's the same exact thing as saying this. "I don't view the new five dollar bills as money because it's colorful." You can have a hard time *accepting* that something is canon, but something that has been deemed canonical can't be "not viewed" as canon, because that's not what canon means.

That's exactly what I thought when Lindsey went out. Also, his was the only death in the whole 'verse I wasn't spoiled for.

I voted for Fred.
Others that deserve an honourable mention are Cordelia's, Anya's and Lorne's.
Cordelia's is more bittersweet than tragic. Anya's are funny, which is perfect for her character. Lorne's work on many different levels like another poster has said.
I voted Fred because her last words are bleak, tragic and filled with lost potential. Out of all mentioned "last words" Fred's affect me the most.

Well. Since Cordelia was the only one with the "last" line, I voted for her. Plus its was great. She was strong and confident which showed what a great transformation she went through from the stuck up Cordelia from Buffy.

To be fair to Jason, Joss has kinda relegated Season 8 to "second-rate canon", by saying he would throw it all away for a movie "without losing much sleep over it". I voted for Fred, by the way. I find a lot of the dialogue and the acting in A Hole in the World to be way over-the-top, but Fred's last words never fail to give me goosebumps.

It's either canon or not. While I understand Jason321's opinion and even somewhat agree with the notion of the characters being equal part writer and actor, you can't deny these stories being told. I also think people have twisted Joss' words with that comment, and used it to refute the events of season eight, to me that's like saying season six and seven never happened because I didn't like them. Not everyone is going to like what happens with the story, but to say they aren't real because Joss might contradict them in the future. Well that's just silly. He went to the trouble of tying Fray into the television series, and now tying season eight into Fray. Why would he bother doing that if he was going to "throw it out the window".

Toughie. In the end though I have to go with Fred, her line is just simply heartbreaking and makes me bawl everytime I watch it.

I went with Fred, its just so sad.. And how many times do people need to be told to? Season 8 is cannon! Its written to the end, season 9 is planned, and if the movie ever did get made ( and there are no solid plans) with the time it takes to make one we could be certain that season 8 and even maybe season 9 would go all the way. There is a list of Buffy cannon, deal with it.

I went with other...mainly because regardless to if you liked him or not, you've got to give Spike credit for: "I wanna see how it ends"

"To bad we'll never know, if this is a face you could learn to love." He went to the trouble of tying Fray into the television series, and now tying season eight into Fray. Why would he bother doing that if he was going to "throw it out the window". ... 'cause he hasn't been offered a Buffy movie deal yet? lol I must admit that infamous quote was one of the few times I think Joss really fooked his wording up. What a spit in the face to all of those avid season 8 fans.

I never got Spike's last words. See how it ends? His existens? See how the Hellmouth closes? Did he just want to say something and couldn't come up with anything better?

It works on an existential, a textual and a meta-textual level (see how the show ends).

I always thought joss could have come up with something more creative than that, but it's still a nice exit line whatever it refers to.

Exactly what I was going to say. The comics, while interesting, are simply second rate to me and I would gladly take a new storyline in movie form with the actors that originally breathed life into these characters over these comics. So if even Joss is willing to scrap them to an extent it is understandable that fans my feel the same. My understanding is that this last words poll means it's the last time we hear their voices speak.
