Can't the big guns just get along?! PS: The only reason I'm disappointed... this didn't happen on TV. I wanna know who Joss would choose to play Melaka. PPS: Scythe. Yes, it could change 200 years in the future which might explain Fray's being completely red, but Buffy traveling with her scythe (the present day scythe)... it would still have the silver on it. The whole "scythe could change over time" theory doesn't make much sense. If Buffy traveled with her scythe, and it aged 200 years, then it stands to reason... why isn't Buffy a bag of bones?

To all those new to Fray, yep get the TPB collection. But after you're done with that there is also a short Fray story in the graphic novel "Tales of the Slayers" which you should get too afterwards, coz its pretty sweet too
There's also a Karl Moline drawing of Buffy in that too, very nice

buffy will use the shadow caster to time travel and I think they will work 2gether rather than against.
I now think they made 2 sycthes one with the essence of the slayer line and one with the knowlege or something along thoses lines (ying yang theory) and I see SIMONE, FAITH or RENEE getting thier hands on it first, so maybe that is why buffy is sent to the future to get Meleka to show her where she found it.
I have not got my copy of fray yet so I don't know how she aquired the scythe but isn't fray from Manhatten and simone from chicago, maybe simone lived in NY once and knows the area. thats my guess

They haven't met as of Fray, but who's to say they don't meet afterward?

Yeah it will clearly take place after "Fray" as it wouldn't really make much sense other wise... Fray is about her first discovering herself as a slayer.
I don't think the two gals will really be fighting the entire time, but it makes sense that they wouldn't really dig each other's presence at the start. Fray shares quite a bit in common with Faith so this will naturally rub Buffy the wrong way...that and the whole "future" thing. Also, I never really got the impression that Maleka was of Asian descent and I think Chen really captured her in this cover (of course it's a different style, and a slightly more realistic take on the character)
People are really all about this red scythe aren't they? Man, it's just a cover... it's probably just shaded the wrong colour. This is like when people get all crazy about "Why's Buffy wearing that on the cover?", I doubt there's a hidden meaning here.

It says in the description that they fight, not to mention the cover. Maybe it won't be for the whole four issues, but they'll at least fight once.
Anyway, about the scythe issue. First off, I don't get why it's such a big deal. But if you look closely at that cover, yes, Buffy's is all red like Fray's was in her comics, but has no one looked at Fray's? It's got the silver blade like Buffy's. They probably just got switched around during the fight. And I really doubt there are two scythes (well, aside from the presence of two temporal instances of the same scythe in the same time... has anyone ever played Legacy of Kain? I wonder....)
To answer an earlier question, Fray didn't find the scythe. It was given to her by her Watcher-ish demon, who had presumably been in possession of it for some time. I had the impression that perhaps Buffy, were she the one who pulled the magic banishing trick, got sucked out of Earth along with everything else (implied by one of the panels). So she spent some time in a demon dimension and, eventually, they got the scythe when she died off. Another interesting idea I had while reading Fray is what if the reason Fray got called wasn't because magic was coming back into the world, but rather because that's when Buffy/The Unnamed Last Slayer finally died? I mean, if the Slayer got banished to another dimension along with the rest of magic, and time moves at different rates in different dimensions, it's quite possible that banished Slayer would have lived some 200 years of Earth time.
Last but not least, it just dawned on me, this arc might provide hope for the people who don't like the idea of Buffy banishing magic for the big finale. If Buffy goes to the future, and sees what it's like and doesn't like it, then maybe that'll change what she does in the present. Of course, then the Buffyverse moves into the wonderful, dizzying, headache-inducing world of time paradoxes (again, see Legacy of Kain).

I agree with hunter223 that they do appear to be different scythes, just switched. (However Maleka's scythe that she's holding doesn't have a silver handle that we would expect from the TV show or Jo's TLWH TPB cover.)
That being said, it is one of two things: a coincidence or insight into the plot. We will only really know which one when the issue comes out, or if we are fortunate enough to get confirmation from Scott Allie regarding this issue.

I ordered the Fray TPB from TFAW last night, so I will finally be caught up with all the Fray talk! I, for one, am excited about this arc. Moreso than Wolves at the Gate, but I can't put my finger on why.

Fray's not my thing. Buffy going to the future, getting freaked out, and coming back, that might be my thing.

If it is possible to change the future, I have to wonder what this will do to the original Fray series. Will Buffy go and realize that something needs to change? Will it actually change?

I agree with mandikaye maybe Buffy will try to change the out come. But if she dose then it would change Fray completely. So maybe that wouldn't work and would be bad because i really enjoyed Fray.
If you noticed on the cover of issue 11 Buffy's Scythe is red as well.... in fact it has been red all the way through the arcs [well just about]other then in the TB cover...

Issue Four. And if you look at cover 11. I can only find Issue 15 where it was silver.

If Buffy changes her own future (e.g present day 2005 for them) then it won't affect Fray. Buffy's future will be changed, but Fray will continue to live in her own time period with all the old memories and things that happened in Fray.

Yes but if Buffy changes how magic ends and it doesn't and theres slayers still hundreds of years in the future it will effect Fray wont it? She wont be the only slayer about and junk.. she would problem know of slayers and there would be more demons and junk about.
