I agree with you.
And the fact that it's called a "hookup" and not a "relationship" doesn't bode well at all.

People have needs. As long as its consensual, then I'm okay with it. Be the first tail he's gotten in a long time... and thankfully, that statement is not literal... ACK! Also... a Dawn/Nick ship would be quite appropriately Brangelina-ed, if I do say so myself... which would be worse.

I just don't want these two to end up together. I always thought the I'm-older-than-you-and-watched-you-grow-up-and-now-I-want-to-date-you dynamic was very odd. I don't think I'll ever be fully comfortable with that. Plus I'm still clinging to the false hope that Xander and Willow will end up together T.T

You can also see Dawn holding Xander's shoulder in Retreat, part 1, when the demons attack. They seem to be very close and touchy this arc.

I think Dawn/Xander is going to happen this arc also. I am still unsure of how I feel about it though. I like Xander's character, but I dislike Dawn. So if it means that pretty much all his scenes will be with her then I might not like it. There is also the possibility that if she dates Xander that I may begin to like her more. I guess we shall see...

And Dander? Really? I was all trying to figure out whose dander... Ugh. No. That's almost as bad as Giles/Buffy. Ok, maybe nothing is that bad. I agree. Nothing could be as bad as Buffy/Giles... Initially, I had a problem with Xander and Dawn getting together, but now I don't see it as such a bad thing. Sure, if this does happen, I may never look at the Dawn/Xander relationship the same again (I mean, its gotta be a little weird hooking up with someone who had a crush on you when they were a little girl), but the way I see it, these two are consenting adults, and if they decide to get together that's their business. It would be interesting to see how Buffy and the others react to it though... Of course, maybe this whole Xander/Dawn thing is just meant to throw us off. We still have the unresolved issue of why Buffy is having dreams about kissing Xander...wonder if that will get touched on again?

It's not so much that I'm creeped out by the idea of a Xander/Dawn relationship, is that I worry what will happen when it inevitably comes crashing down in a flood of tears. It could lead to a permanent rift among the Scoobies, or force Buffy to choose between her sister and her best friend. Combine that with the darkness on the horizon for the Buffy/Willow friendship, and we could be looking at breaking up the band for good.
Another possibility for what Scott thinks we fans might be up in arms about.

But let's hope not..

I agree that Xander and Dawn doing the hookup could spell disaster for the entire scooby gang. Not to mention that whenever Xander gets involved with a girl, she usually ends up dying.

*Rubs sweaty newbie palms together* As the "asker" of the infamous Xander question, I have to admit my first reaction to Scott Allie's answer was, "Xander's been doing nothing. Just talking to Buffy, managing his squad, and hanging out with Dawn." Which then made me go back and re-read all the comics since Wolves and pretty much that is exactly what he has done. You see Xander, you know Dawn isn't far behind in the scene, even as early as After These Messages... Whether this is leading us to a relationship I really don't know. There is clear evidence that they are closer than ever, that Dawn feels comfortable around him (physically and emotionally), and that they spend way more time together than they do with anyone else. Still, I'm a little iffy about the reciprocation from Xander. When she's a centaur he says, "You really don't know how awesome you look..." which gives the impression that there might be some sexual feelings on his part (and Dawn looks thrilled that he thinks of her like that) but then he goes on to say that she's a centaur, the majestic creature of legend and that he is jealous. He's geeking out that she is a centaur. Dawn even has a pissed off face when she realizes her mistake. And when she says he has to "ride her," he looks horrified. The same when she mentions being rode hard and put away wet. So, I'm not yet convinced it's mutual. If they do get together I definitely see it being an issue. When you look at Buffy's speech to Xander in End of Days (or around there) about how she was trusting him with her life...with what was most important to her, Dawn...it's hard to imagine she would be thrilled about them together. Especially considering his track record with women (cheated on Cordy and left Anya at the alter), and the whole tiny fact that his girlfriends seem to end up dead. Long post short, I'm not absolutely opposed to Xander/Dawn. I actually think it might be good for both of them since they have a mutual admiration for each other, and they are kinda cute together. Still, I can't get his speech to her in Potential out of my head or the way he stepped up to haul her out of Sunnydale on Buffy's orders. But, people change and grow. It's not impossible for something to happen between them and it wouldn't be icky necessarily. It would just take some explaining to get us from little sister to lover. Sorry that was a lot longer than I anticipated...

You see Xander, you know Dawn isn't far behind in the scene, even as early as After These Messages... Well actually, the majority of TOYL, Xander and Dawn were together. Let's take a look back and see how many issues they've spent alone time together.. or at least obvious togetherness while with large groups: *The Long Way Home, Part 2 *Anywhere But Here *Time of Your Life, Parts 2-4 *After These Messages... We'll Be Right Back *Hamonic Divergence *Retreat, Parts 1-2 That gives to a grand total of 9 issues. The list for issues where they're both in it and they spend time apart is equal, surprisingly: *The Long Way Home, Part 1 & 3-4 *A Beautiful Sunset *Wolves at the Gate, Parts 1 & 3-4 *Time of Your Life, Part 1 *Living Doll

My bad I don't know why I had this crazy idea that After These Messages came before TOYL. Maybe b/c I haven't kept my comics in order...
Anyway the funny thing I found when looking at your list is that in a lot of the issues especially Living Doll, even if Dawn and Xander weren't together, Xander was talking to Buffy about Dawn. In the earlier issues, they sort of haphazardly ended up together because Buffy and Willow were off doing their own thing. After TOYL they start to become attached at the hip even though Buffy and Willow are around.
I'm not really sure what to make of it, it is clear from Scott Allie's response and all of the screen time they have together that we are supposed to be noticing them. To what end? I hope we will find out before Jane's arc ends.

No 100%, I am not for it at all. And please elaborate why you are 100% against it. Don't use the excuse that Dawn used to be his kid sister. Things change. Think Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley. I KNOW they were only a year apart but didn't he treat her as his kid sister? No one had a problem with that. At this point in time, Xander would be 28 and Dawn would be 22. That's an acceptable age difference at that point in their lives. And if you wanna get technical, Dawn's been around thousands of years (and she's only been human 8 years).

I was watching S7 of Buffy last night, and it's so weird to think of these two hooking up, but as Joe said, things change and they are both older now. Both have been through and experienced a lot with each other and both know what it's like to sort of be the outsider, so it makes sense that they would forge a connection on that level. Sure, it would take a while to get used to but that being said, I don't have a problem with them getting together. My husband doesn't think it's going to happen, but I think he's going to be in for a big surprise because if you look at everything leading up to now it's obvious where this is headed.
