As Eric Wight has asked to release his interview in time to support Issue 20, I thought I would ask a few questions to Scott Allie, the editor of Buffy season 8, about issue 20 and the possibility of a limited-series based on the animated series scripts. Firstly, he has stated that it was Joss' idea to ask Jeph Loeb to write an issue of Buffy. When that was decided, making the issue about the animated series " seemed like the natural way to go with him." But he also adds that that issue was quite hard to conceive, as it is illustrated by the fact that issue 21 and 22 are finished but there are still a few things missing in issue 20, mainly because " it really was hard to reassemble the team of the animated series". Apparently, the script is based on an episode of the animated series, but it was " heavily rewritten". But Scott Allie can't really know how much rewritting was done, as he has not read the scripts of the animated series. Which leads us to the final part of my questions to Scott : he said that we won't see another issue set in the animated series in season 8 or 9, but he doesn't discard the idea of a limited-series comic based on the 13 lost scripts. As he says : " If we can do it right, I go where Joss tells me on this stuff." As you see, I didn't ask a lot of questions to Scott Allie, mainly because Eric Wight's interview has already answered a lot. But I thought you might find it a little bit interesting. For those of you who haven't yet done it, please sign the petition to support the return of the animated series : www.thepetitionsite.com/1/slayalive-we-want-buffyanimated !
