I watched this last night and was quite disappointed. ASH did a good job, but he was the only good thing about it IMO. I'd be interested to hear what others thought.

ASH was the only good thing, or one of them. I didn't really much like the ending. :/ But the songs made up for lack of good story line. Some of the effects were enat, and all though.

reeeeee poooooo maaaaaan! ok. i was so pumped for this movie and then i saw it for sale at hot topic (for only 16 dollars no less!) so i snatched it right up! i got home and poped it in and sat affixed to the screen for the duration of the movie and the credits rolled and i said "wtf! thats what i have been waiting a year for!" so, i decided to return it to hot topic. i put it in my car and drove around with it for a week, waiting for a time to go to the mall. so, over the span of that week i kept hearing "i'm infected" in y head and "zydrate comes in a little glass vial. doop da do da doop" and i figured if the soundtrack was that catchy after hearing ot only once it deserved another chnace. so i took it back in the house and re-watched it and LOVED it! i think the problem, for me, was that i had such high expectations and also that o was expecting something alltogether different. i was expecting a straight up rock operah/horror hybrid. and that it is not. i would say that it isn't even in the same vein of rocky horror. it is really un-clasifyable. nowing what to expect, i really enjoyed the movie. i decided to keep the dvd and i bought the soundtrack on itunes! so, my advice is to watch it twice before you make a final judgement

I just finished watching it. I feel like i have been raped from an hour and a half of my life. I think my ears are in fact bleeding. I like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Sweeney Todd (with Johnny Depp)...but i did NOT like this.
I forced myself to sit through the whole thing, because when it starts the plot seems like an awesome idea. They could have done so much with it. I did however like most of the imagery, and the gore was AWESOME. I liked the graphic novel esque flashbacks, The whole Goth/Rock Opera idea appealed to me, because i love music like that. A.S.H did a good job, but i don't feel like they gave his amazing talent much of a chance by the way the "songs" (and i use that term loosely!!) were written.
Sarah Brightman was also good, amazing pipes and i loved her whole creepy-eyed character. But i think my issue with it is that just because it is a musical, you don't have to sing/talk every word. Have some singing, and some talking SEPERATE. And if you do sing/talk -make the song at least have a tune to it and use it to tell the story already sheesh. About the only song i kind of liked (besides the background harpies over an electric guitar) was the Graverobber/Paris Hylton one because it had a somewhat catchy beat, and the little reprise of it at the end.(I really hate Paris btw) Musicals should have music that the veiwer gets lost in and tunes that get stuck in your head and play over and over. Phantom of the Opera moved me, made me feel, this-not at all. I don't think i will take the chance to watch it again to see if i like it any better. Anyone who decides to rent this movie- go into it with NO expectations. There really isn't anything else to compare it to. It seems to be one of those movies where you either love it or hate it. The story goes nowhere, the songs fell flat for me, and the characters were wasted and became pointless in my opinion.

I can see what you are saying because that is the exact way i felt after watching it the first time. After another viewing I was able to take it for what it was and enjoy it at that. It's funny you mention that the only song you liked was Zydrate Anatomy beause that is the only one I liked at first. I was talking to a guy that I met at the video store about the movie and he was saying the same thing. He hated the movie and the songs but he loved Zydrate Anatomy. Funny

It was completely awful. I couldn't even make it through the whole movie. Play was much better.

Before the movie, there was a play (musical) of the same name, with pretty much the same music. Then the creators of the play wanted to make it into a movie and called on Darren Lynn Bousman to direct it! ^^
