Yeah, I agree the fanbase has grown a lot. With Dr. Horrible, it was mentioned that Act 1 had 2 million views. It was big with the fanbase, but not really anywhere else. With Dollhouse, I've seen more negative buzz than positive. I just hope FOX comes up with a great advertising campaign that appeals to people outside the fanbase. Even if the ratings arn't great, I bet the DVR and internet numbers will be huge. Have they figured out a way to get the DVRs into the ratings system? Because I remember watching LOST season three when the numbers declined but it was mostly because the time slot went from 9PM to 10PM and people began to DVR and the ratings people (whomever they are) didn't know how to calculate that in. I feel like I understand why FOX put Dollhouse on Friday, because it won't have much competition...but I'm still a little upset because people outside the fanbase probably won't tune in.

Well the problem with DVR's is that they really don't matter in the ratings. The only purpose of a ratings system is for the networks to know how many people watch their shows, so they can then turn around and sell advertising space. Since people with TiVo and DVR skip the ads, the networks don't care about them. That's why DVR's won't ever be calculated with normal Nielsen ratings.

They're going to have to figure out how to work with DVRs someday. The technology's not going anywhere and just sitting around and saying that the current system isn't set up to deal with DVRs isn't going to solve the problem. They need to start working on changing the system.
Best wishes,
Scott

I agree with the above post and think they should change the system. I mean, at least charge a little less for advertisement space for a certain percent that DVR the show. I mean, they still SEE the ads and sometimes I even forget to fast forward through the commercials because I think I'm watching live TV. Has Joss commented on the move yet?

I like the idea of incorporating ads into the DVR system, if only to save struggling shows.
I imagine it looking a little like Hulu.

Because the shows definitely get money for them there. There ARE ads in between the episodes. Off topic... And they certainly have Firefly on that site, so does that mean that Firefly is still making money?

Fox is so sh*tty to Joss. wtf! I hope it does well. Or at least, Joss gets to air all 13 episodes before they cancel it. Ugh. He should just do cable next time. I would love a Whedon HBO or Showtime show. OMFG.
I shouldn't be so pessimistic.

The star, who developed the show with Whedon, also offered a positive take on some of the perceived troubles facing Dollhouse. If critics call its Friday 9 p.m. timeslot the "death slot," Dushku reminds them that appointment television is old news anyway. "Dude, we're in the age of DVR," she said. "People watch what they want to watch." Dushku's also high on Dollhouse's lead-in from the low-rated Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. "I know Terminator is Joss' favorite show on Fox, and it's going to be female-empowerment night," she said. Maybe DVR does take ratings? That's a quote from an interview that Eliza Dushku did for scifi.com Source: [The article does contain some Dollhouse spoilers. But scroll to the bottom to check out a cute funny picture with Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku, and Tahmoh Penikett] www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=62509

Well even though I DVR most of my other shows, I will try my best to watch Dollhouse on live tv to keep it alive! Who's with me?

What the heck is a DVR? Well... since I don't have one (I think), I guess I'll watch it live! Yay!

the fact that Dollhouse has been moved to the "Friday Deathslot" makes me really mad. hopefully FOX's lame exscuse about it getting a better chance on that night will work out. FOX always screws Joss over... but my friend and i might make t-shirts that say "watch Dollhouse tonight on FOX" and wear them on Fridays, lol. (not that it would help very much, but i still think it's a good idea since our school has so many students.) hopefully i can convince a few of my other friends to wear them as well.

I am so excited for this show, I hope it does well on Friday being paired with Terminator, I think that *hopefully* it will be different enough that people find it intriguing, and I have seen the promo commercials on FOX, they look pretty good. The thing that pisses me off is that the execs are already expecting it to fail, it's like they're regretting picking the show up. STUPID-HEADS, do you realize what this show will be? It will be exactly what the american public wants: beaufitul, kickass girl fighting (Buffy-esque) + government intrigues and conspiracies (X-Files-esquw). Put those things together and to me it sounds like a success, but I guess that the execs would rather do more shitty reality shows with vapid contestants who get naked and betray each other. Darn, what happened to the GOOD SHOWS??
vent over..either way I'm really excited to watch the show, for however long it airs..*cries tears filled with Firefly memories*
