Well, I was just going to post "I love Anya, she's my favourite Buffy character ever!" But then I saw this quiz by Vampmogs for Xander, so I stole it, I'd like to see anyone else fill it out as well, I'm curious!
1) What's your favourite episode for Anya and why?
Well I think pretty much everyone's going to choose 'Selfless.' I am definitely. We finally after four seasons of knowing and laughing at this one thousand year old ex-vengeance demon get to see parts of her history, glimpses of her past self. This was incredibly interesting, entertaining, and often hilarious. I also love how it finally dives into Anya's character and her personality, and how her psychosis (I don't think that's the right word). It was filled with such touching moments and I love the double entendre of the episode, that Anya is selfless, she was willing to give her life to fix the mistake that she made, and the fact that she has no sense of self, she hasn't been able to find herself, always latching on to what comes along.
2) What's your favourite Anya ship?
Considering the only official one is Xander/Anya (and well kind of Anya/Spike, but that definitely is treated as a one time thing) and I don't like Xander I would say I don't have one. I love just Anya. I do think in a way Xander and Anya are meant to be, but he has humiliated and belittled her on so many occasions that I just don't like him. It breaks my heart to see him leave her cause she loves him so much though.
3) What's your top five Anya scenes?
1) "But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens. How we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's- There's just a body, and I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead anymore. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And-and Xander's crying and not talking, and-and I was having fruit punch, and I thought, well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever, and no one will explain to me why." The moment I fell in love with Anya. I always thought that she was hilarious, but this made me see another side of her and I knew that I loved this character.
2) Her solo in selfless. I was devestated when she got stabbed, and I thought she had died. The song afterwards is just so depressing, seeing her so blissful and so wanting to be married, and knowing how it all fell apart is just awful.
3) The Xander/Anya scene in I think Two to Go. Where they talk to one another, and she says "I care if you live or die Xander Harris, I just don't know which one I want." I also like it when he insults her for sleeping with Spike saying she got her revenge and she states, "that wasn't vengeance, that was solace."
4) "Oh god! I'm terrified. I thought you would be terrified and I'd be sitting here sarcastic and making fun of you."
"Think happy thoughts like rainbows, and bunnies."
"Floppy. Hoppy. Bunnies."
Awesome.
5) When Xander is leaving the church and she's telling him that it was all a lie and she's asking him to stay and he leaves anyway. And then she's alone, in her wedding dress. Followed by her encounter with D'Hoffrryn, where she is made a vengeance demon again.
(I wanted to include more funny scenes, but damn while Anya gets few dramatic moments, those moments are by far some of my favourite in the series.)
4) What's your top three favourite Anya lines?
So. So. Difficult.
1) "Anya: There was this other apocalypse this one time. And, well, I took off. But this time, I don't... I don't know.
Andrew: Well, what's different?
Anya: Well, I guess I was kinda new to being around humans before. And now I've seen a lot more, gotten to know people, seen what they're capable of and I guess I just realize how amazingly... screwed up they all are. I mean, really, really screwed up in a monumental fashion.
Andrew: Oh.
Anya: And they have no purpose that unites them, so they just drift around, blundering through life until they die. Which they-they know is coming, yet every single one of them is surprised when it happens to them. They're incapable of thinking about what they want beyond the moment. They kill each other, which is clearly insane, and yet, here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting. But they do. They never... They never quit. And so I guess I will keep fighting, too."
2) "I, Anya, promise to love you, to cherish you, to honor you, ah, but NOT to obey you, of course, because that's anachronistic and misogynistic and who you do you think you are, like a sea captain o-or something?"
"Okay. For the last time. I, Anya, want to marry you, Xander, because I love you and I'll always love you. And before I knew you, I was like a completely different person. Not even a person, really. And I had seen what love could do to people, and it was hurt and sadness. Alone was better. And then, suddenly there was you, and... you knew me. You saw me, and it was this... thing. You make me feel safe and warm. So, I get it now. I finally get love, Xander. I really do."
3) "Xander: Ja wohl! But let's not try to forget, we're also your friends.
Anya: I'm not.
Buffy Summers: Then why are you here? Aside from getting rescued, what is it that you do?
Anya: I provide much needed... sarcasm. "
Yes you do, Anya. Yes you do.
I definately forgot some, and this probably isn't even my top quotes if I went through everything. But this is off the top of my head, and imdb, so, that'll have to do.
5) What's Anya's best quality?
Her humour, and her blunt-ness. I love not only her sense of humour, the dry, sarcastic quip. But I also love how she's not afraid to say how she feels. If she's angry, she'll say it, if she's upset, she'll say it. Granted, it can get her into troubles at times, and annoys people at times, but I think it's a quality to admire, to always speak your feelings instead of bottling them up and pushing them away.
6) Did you ever dislike Anya?
Nope, although I have disliked certain things she's said or done. The moment that instantly comes to mind is when she says to Buffy that she isn't her friend in season seven. I've always considered them friends, sure not the best of friends, but they got alone, and she was a bridesmaid at the wedding. Anya could have chosen Halfrek or any other assortment of demon friends, but she chose Buffy, Willow and Tara. She considered them friends and she liked them. I just think she was incredibly spiteful over being left at the altar by Xander and having all of them essentially stick with Xander and not be as outright furious as she was made her hostile towards them. Which is understandable, but I still didn't like it when she said it.
7) What's your top three saddest Anya moments?
1) Being left at the altar. To watch her dreams crushed, especially after how much trust she put into something she was originally so sceptical of. It's so depressing.
2) Her death. Why would you do that to us Joss? Why??? I hope she makes a miraculous appearance in the comics. I need Anya.
3) After she's stabbed through the chest in Selfless and it's followed by the song, I'll Be Mrs. It's just a reflection of how happy and at peace she was, and now she's incredibly conflicted and miserable, it was heartbreaking.
8) Which character does Anya interact best with?
Hrm. I think Andrew. They're both kind of outcasts in season seven, and the two of them are just hilarious together. They're both so different in personality to that it's nice to see a bond form regardless of that.
I also love her interactions with Willow, their frustration and anger at one another. They play off each other really well.
