I'm all for Buffy/Xander happening. I think there's very clear signs of it in Btvs season eight, though my certainty of that has wavered slightly with the teasing of the Xander/Dawn romance over the last few issues or so.
But Xander is exactly the kind of guy Buffy needs. I'd have said a human Angel, but I'd be fine with Xander if Buffy truly loved him back. Angel was right all along, Xander gets to see Buffy in the time of day that a vampire never could, he gets to hear her general complaints, he gets to see normal everyday Buffy, he knows her the best out of all the males in her life.
Also, Xander's not afraid to tell Buffy what he thinks of her, I really can't see him being her "whipping boy" like Spike was in season seven, Faith summed it up wonderfully hee! And Angel wasn't much better, though their back and forth was brilliant in 'Sanctuary/ The Yoko Factor.' So Xander won't be "loves bitch" or hanging around in the shadows waiting for her, which is most certainly a positive.
What I'd like to see happen in season eight is for there to be unrequited love, this time with Buffy wanting Xander instead of the usual, the guy wants Buffy kinda story. I think that'd be really interesting and would humble Buffy's character and her more accessible for all those fans who have fallen out of love with her over the last couple of seasons.
It'd also come full circle for the series, Bander was the first "ship" ever introduced into the Buffyverse when Xander sees Buffy and falls off his skateboard, so it'd be nice and wonderful to see it be the last.
The most common complaints I hear about Bander which I quickly want to address and give my opinion on-
"They're like brother and sister it's so icky!"- This couldn't be more untrue. They've always been aware of one another sexually and have never viewed one another as "brother" or "sister." Right up until 'Hells Bells' you have Xander joke about having a "quickie" with Buffy, you have Xander calling her bank robbing "sexy" you have Buffy have a naughty sex dream about him in 'The Long Way Home' you have Xander joke about Buffy not being hasty to get a new cheerleading outfit in 'Him' you have him admit to thinking about what Buffy wears when he's alone and in the dark in 'The Freshman' All of this took place after the Buffy/Xander ship kinda faded from a main story of the series. So unless you and your sibling call eachother "sexy" or joke about having a "quickie" together, it's clear they don't view one another in this way.
People grasp onto Buffy's "I'm way ahead of you brother" in Xander's dream during 'Restless' as evidence that this is how they view one another, or more importantly, this is how Buffy views Xander. Again, this isn't true. This was Xander's dream after all, this is how Xander thinks Buffy views him, which doesn't make it fact, nor in anyway means that Xander views Buffy as a sister.
"Buffy Needs Some Monster in Her Man and Xander's just a human"- I *loathe* this one. I couldn't think it anymore false. The only person to ever claim such a thing was Spike, non surprisingly seeing as how he's a monster he'd want Buffy to only want monsters, but that doesn't make it fact. Spike calls her a "groupie" because she was with Angel then with him, but it was Angel's soul, his humanity, that made Buffy love him, not the vampire part. The only time Buffy ever more or less agrees with Spike is at the start of 'Something Blue' when she wonders wether or not a nice normal relationship can have the fire as one that "makes her miserable." Not only does Buffy learn at the end of the episode this isn't the case, "I get it, I'm so over the bad boy thing" but she also had her mind wiped to what actually happened in her last encounter with Angel. Which is unfortunate, because we saw Buffy with a human Angel, extremely happy and passionate. In fact, when she's in bed with Angel and when she states she finally feels like a normal girl, it's the happiest Buffy has ever been romantically speaking-and that's with a human. Pity Buffy doesn't remember this.
Buffy was also happy with Riley, it wasn't the lack of monster in him that drove them apart, in fact it was when Riley tried to go dark that distanced them from eachother.
Buffy has always maintained that she doesn't need monster in her man, right up until 'Never Leave Me' when Spike tries to tell her that she likes men who hurt her, and she mocks him for trying to give her advice on whom she is, when he doesn't even know himself at that point. "You think you have insight now because your soul's drenched in blood, you don't know me, you don't even know you!"
In my opinion, Buffy *does not* need "monster in her man."

I want Buffy and Xander to be together. It qould be a nice way to end the series, bringing it full circle. Way back to one of the first scenes of "Welcome to the Hellmouth" when Xander gets knocked off of his skateboard looking at Buffy. For me Xander resembles a human Angel and since Angel is nevr going to be human (outside of hell) then I am more than happy form Bander to happen BUT DO NOT BRAKE THEM UP OR KILL ONE OF THEM! lol

One: Xander's the only man left in her life, and he's been there since the beginning.
Two: Xander wants to be closer to Buffy, as his #1 gripe with her is she keeps too much to herself. (No one else confronts her about this).
Three: Buffy wants boy-normal. She and Angel broke up because she wanted a life with a family. Riley ended up leaving her because she was too distant (which she recognized too late and was devastated by his departure). She and Spike were never in a long-term oh-my-god-i-found-the-person-for-me kind of love.
Four: Xander will never leave her. Remember the vision Xander had on his wedding day... Anya was accusing Xander of only thinking about Buffy (or something to that affect), that he would never leave her.
Bander is a natural course for the series!!

I'm 100% down for Xander hooking up with a Summers girl.
Only thing is, her name doesn't rhyme with Puffy. :]

Awww, why didn't I see this thread? I love those two together (friends or romantic partners), they've had the most interesting relationship in the show.
