This is it! The premiere episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as our first ever episode viewing! Using Hulu is great, as it allows you to make the video a pop-up...so you can still view the forum if you want to while watching! Next episode will take place on Tuesday, December 2nd 2008 Buffy Tuesdays are back on SlayAlive! Enjoy Buffy in all her Season One era glory. Watch. Discuss, here.

Ah! The episode that started it all!! (Not counting the movie Dx) I particularly love the scene between Buffy and Giles where she explains how a person is sired by a vampire "It's just a big sucking thing". Oh, how this brings back memories!! Everyone looks so young!! *gasp*.XD

oh wowie zowie, this is such a great series premiere. Buffy's attitude is so great, and Cordy's wardrobe, not to mention nerdy Willow!! I'm in the middle of season 6 on my DVD's and watching this ep is a STARK contrast to the characters in this later season. The development put into each of them is so astounding, and thought I knew this before, it's made even more clear by watching this uber-early ep while simultaneously watching season 6 (Tara's death, Buffy vs. Warren, Dawn at the same age as Buffy in Welcome to the Hellmouth, and of course, the complete difference in relationship between Buffy and Giles.) In season 1, I love Xander, I always have. And in contrast to his S6 portrayal, I love him even more. I've always had a problem with the happenings of Hell's Bells, and how Xander leaves Anya. It has always seemed out of character to me in some way. But in watching this series premiere, I realize something: The ONLY girl Xander would be completely happy with, is Buffy. Sure, they've had their quarrels and spats, but he will never stop loving this girl. And whether it's now turned into a more fraternal love, he will still never be satisfied with anyone but Buffy as the main gal in his life. At least, that's what I'm thinking at the moment. I change my opinion on this constantly. In summation I really enjoyed watching this ep while also watching S6 of Buffy--and S4 of Angel, don't EVEN get me started on the changes with THOSE characters!!--and I look forward to watching the next ep next Tuesday!!

It's always nice to go back to the beginning... You know, I can't help wondering whatever happened to Xander's skateboard.... What particularly amazes me about the pilot is ususally it takes a whie for a Tv series to find its characters-here,everybody's basically found right from the beginning....
Best wishes,
Scott

I miss the vamp make up that they used in the first few episodes. It looks so much more scarier. Funny to see that the episode was not directed by Joss as he didn't make his directorial debut until "Prophecy Girl" Over all a very good episodes one of the few good ones of season one along with: The Harvest, Angel, The Pack, Witch, Puppet Show and Prophecy Girl. Season one gets a lot of not really hate but is not recognised as much as the other seasons but it is not a bad season. To be fare there are no bads seasons of Buffy, some were just not as good as the others. Season 4 had Hush, season 6 had Once More with Feeling and season one started it all so to sum up. I LOVE BUFFY!

Ah, this episode brings back so many memories. I was introduced to the series by my best friend, former, Nathan. He invited me over saying that he and his sister are totally into this new show on the WB, and that I had to watch it. I was a skeptic, of course.
So we watched 'Welcome to the Hellmouth', and then 'The Harvest'. I was completely elated with Buffy. I was mesmerized, hooked! I had to know what was going to happen next. I do like the make-up from the premiere, and it did look a bit more frightening than it did in later seasons. Or it could just be the lighting. Season 1 gets a lot of crap, but I think it was a great starting point for the fledgling show on a new network. I mean Buffy was the first of it's kind, with many copycats to follow! Of course it took a few episodes to get it's legs. I really love 'WttH' and actually find myself watching it often as of late. I don't know why but I feel so nostalgic, and love to see classic Willow! She looks so cute in those cheesy, tacky get ups! Hehe and Buffy, wow with her mini-skirts and boots. This is when everything is new and fun and most importantly, innocent. It's a shame this is not currently on in the US. I think that kids these days would be tuned in to this show, it's got great themes, and this is just to starting point. IMO, Buffy hit the ground running.

Maybe i will double check later </lazy>

Wow, I was 8 years old when I first watch this ... and I have never had any friends that like it as much as I did... Like Whedon Fan said, the vamp make up that they used in the first few episodes looked so much more scarier...

It's amazing how far they've all come. Especially Willow and Cordelia! They've definitely had the most dramatic character developments. I never noticed that Xander was in the library because Willow told him to borrow a trig book. I always thought he was just there because of some other school-related thing.

I looks like the skateboard makes a return appearance in Season 8 #20

Great intro to the show, I'm just catching up with the viewings via DVD at home!
Favorite line: Why? I mean hi!
REALLY Random fact: Persia White from the UPN show "Girlfriends" plays the girl (I think her name is Aura, she's talking to "Afrodesia") whose locker houses the dead student. This actress later turns up in the Angel episode "Over the Rainbow".
