One of the fiction books that I would highly recommend you read is the Lost Slayer Trilogy. It's so awesome. Also Spike & Dru: Pretty Maids all in a Row that was an amazing story..if you like Spru. I like the Tales of the Slayer volumes...but that's just because I like knowing about other slayers other than Buffy

Hey I got the book bit me for christmass. The picture of gunn from angel has an autograph on it. Does anyone have that as well? IS this part of the book or is my amazon book realy signed? There are a few different versions of Bite Me. If you have the same version I have and you're talking about the picture on page 23, then I think your book is really signed.

Never too late to join the dark side, I guess. I think I have been on the dark side for a long while - just didn't know that there were comics that lived in the same zone as me.

Just finished a new book of essays on Buffy, focusing on S6 and S7. The title is Buffy Goes Dark: Essays on the Final Two Seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Television[/b]. It's edited by Lynne Y Edwards, Elizabeth L. Rambo, and James B. South (the guy who edited Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy).
Overall, I thought that the book was much better than BtVS and Philosophy because it addressed the show through a more multi-disciplined lens, instead of trying to force it into the various schools of philosophy. There are some great essays in there, including one on the character of Andrew (quite possibly the best essay in the collection, IMO). But various themes are explored, and I thought, in general, the essays were all quite well-written, and the arguments, while they may not cause you to flip sides on, were at least articulated well. It comes highly recommended.

Im reading Buffy and Philosophy. Now, I like this book, don't get me wrong, but maybe for a person like me, it should be a tad clearer. Half the time I have absolutely no idea what he's talking about, hence the term used by another member commenting on the book "stuffy". The man uses so many huge intricate words that not only do I feel dumb, I feel like im not on the same level of what the show is.
However, the parts that I do understand, I do find pretty insightful. Specifically the Faith chapter.

It's not written by one person. James South is just the editor of the book. It's a collection of articles by various contributors. Their brief bios can be found at the end of the book.

Wenxina, where did you get your Buffy goes Dark? I've been searching for it on amazon and Barnes & Noble, but I've had no luck. That description on amazon grabbed my attention and I really want to read it, especially because it focuses on the latter seasons.

- "Seven Seasons of Buffy: Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Discuss Their Favorite Television Show" - "Five Seasons of Angel: Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Discuss Their Favorite Vampire"
^^ Both very good reads. There were some essays in both that were pretty skippable, but overall they were interesting and enjoyable. (There's also one for "Firefly": "Finding Serenity: Anti-Heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's Firefly".)

I also have "Reading Angel: The TV Spin-off With a Soul" that was a really good read as well.

Thanks Wenxina! It wasn't available when I last checked, so woo hoo! I'm going to order it:)
Speaking of other Buffy books, I recently finished "Reading the Vampire Slayer" which is edited by Roz Kaveny. I really like the way that the chapters were arranged and the P.O.V. of many of the authors. My favorite chapters included: She saved the world. A lot, Entropy as a demon, and Blood and Choice"
She saved the world. A lot does the typical analysis of the seasons to begin with, but then goes in-depth about the end of Season 7 and the First. The author of this particular chapter calls the First a liar, especially in regards to Spike, and how Spike exceeds everyone's expectations, how he's the only one who to not turn his back on Buffy in S7, and is basically a very pro Spuffy paragraph.
In Entropy as a Demon, it's a quick discussion on the locale of BtVS and how it effects and plays with the traditional vampire lore and location.
In Blood & Choice, the author compares and contrasts the family structures in AtS & BtVS. He states how he feels that Angel's family is more tight-knit than Buffy's because of the situations that they were all involved in, and that the power is more diffused and shared throughout the family unit as compared to Buffy's sole power.
Overall, it was a very good analysis, and I highly recommend the book.
For comedic quality, I recommend the Slayer series by Keith Topping. It analyzes every single episode with continuity errors, So Cal references, foreshadowing, good/bad fashion choices, and my personal favorite :Denial, Thy name is Joyce. The author also writes about Angel in his Hollywood Vampire series.

I meant to literally say the authors but w/e. Yeah, I really liked reading the Lost Slayer series. I found them to be amazing and it was able to actually pop a decent picture into my head. The end of the fourth literally made me cry with Xanders death (they tore him apart!). I found it was very interesting to see how the gang had ended up: Buffy: Held captive by vampires for YEARS and like a T2 Linda Hamilton, buffed up. Willow: Uber-witch. Oz: Able to change back and forth to Wolf with control in Wolf form at will. Xander: Battle hardened and cold. Dies Faith: Dead. Giles: Vampire King!

Don't want to ruin it for anyone.... When I read the Lost Slayer, it made me really sad. I really liked it, but it was so upsetting! I really enjoyed the whole story behind the crossbow being left for Buffy by Giles in that random building all those years ago. It was interesting to see Oz & Will end up together, and how in charge/powerful Willow was. I'm really glad that they were able to reverse everything, although Giles was an interesting villian. I think the worst part for me was the torture device that Angel was in. Even though I'm a HUGE Spuffier, that part was thisclose to making me bawl. It was very upsetting, and to have him die in front of Buffy just made me lose it. Fantastic read.

I liked the Gatekeeper Trilogy as well, also (it's been a few years so bear with me) there's a book, maybe called the 4 slayers. I remember liking that one.
Has anyone read the Chosen book? I bought it but never opened it, wondered if it was well written.

I bought it but never opened it, wondered if it was well written. The book with the four Slayers would be The Book of Fours. As for Chosen, isn't that just a novelization of S7? It's not mind-blowing, and I thought it was quite pointless, seeing that you pretty much get the whole thing by watching the series anyway. But yeah, I read it anyway, and felt stupid afterwards.
