i don't have showtime either, but i just began watching this show last week thanx to Blockbuster's wise decision to rent out tv shows. i'm already half-way through season 2. it's so good i can't stop watching, but now i'm going to have to wait for season 3 to come out on DVD.

Has anyone here seen all of season three? If so, what was your opinion? I thought overall, it was the weakest season so far, mostly due to the writing, which in comparison to almost every other series currently in production, was brilliant, it just did not hold up in comparison to the previous two seasons unfortunately. When this season started, I noticed some people commenting on the fall in quality of writing, and being the contrarian I am, I fought against that notion, wanting to see the season as a whole before making any judgements, just because like BtVS, Dexter works best as a serial, and to judge it on one or two episodes alone would be doing it a disservice. On the topic of BtVS, does anyone else see the parallels between Buffy's position and Dexter's? Dexter has now found that his circle of family and friends are an anchor, which keeps him grounded and alive, which is very similar to Buffy's position throughout almost the entire series. I'm curious to see which way the writers take the show in season four, especially with Dexter becoming ***SPOILER*** a father. It will make a very interesting circle, from Harry to Dexter to (presumably for dramatic purposes) Son. Also, while I love Julie Benz and her new enhanced chest (did everyone else notice that? I don't think the props dept would give her such a big chest that early into her *SPOILER*** pregnancy on purpose!) I hope they make Rita less insufferable next season, because this season she became a mini-Syl, who was irritating beyond reason.

I thought Season 3 was amazing. The arc was fantastic and the dynamic between Dexter and Miguel was really incredible (Jimmy Smitts had better get an Emmy nod, his work was stellar). It wasn't as good as Season 1, but it was definitely better than Season 2, and I don't think the writing dipped at all.

I'm glad you liked it. Jimmy Smitts was incredible, he definitely deserves a nomination at the very least. Season three was amazing, I just felt it lacked some of the wit that made me fall for season one and two.
Although I guess I'm one of the less common people who preferred season two over season one. I found the whole Lila and Doakes storyline very compelling. Can't get enough of season two.

I watch it off and on. I loved the season 1 finale. All my friends hate Dexter and think I'm wierd for watching it, but I think it is interesting.

Season 3 is not available in Aus yet. Just waiting. I work in a dvd store so I'll put it on pre-order as soon as I can. Guess I have to wait for it finishing airing in states first Hehe.

I couldn’t sleep last night so I decided to watch the first six episodes of season 1 of Dexter. I have never watched a single episode prior to that and was curious when I read all the good reviews. Plus, the main character is a serial killer and sociopath, which is a major plus! lol. Julie Benz is incredible, I love how her character is so damaged. I kept on thinking that Deb was played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Is it me or does she and Jennifer carpenter look alike? Speaking of look-alikes Devon Grave (teenage Dexter) reminded me of Jared Padalecki from Supernatural.
Edit: July 23, 2009
I am now caught up to season three, episode five. The only good thing about being unemployed is that you have a lot of free time on your hands.

I don't have Showtime, so I've been patiently waiting for season 3 to come out on DVD for what feels like forever. It won't be long now, August 18th.

I started season 1, because I can watch it instantly on Netflix, but then I got sidetracked because I got really into Bones. I liked the show though. It kind of reminded me of In Cold Blood. Not the plot, but the way I felt watching it, because I'm rooting for the killer, and when I realize that I start to feel a little sick. Of course, with In Cold Blood, I was less rooting for the killers than pitying the one.
