Also just to add that in season 7 the episode where Giles is stalling Buffy so that Robin could try and kill Spike. Giles was going to tell Buffy about he he killed Ben/Glory in season 5. He had to do what she couldn't. Sort of like Robin and Giles is doinf what Buffy should have done to Spike along time ago. But the scene got to complicated and in the end decided it wa best to keep it a secret. Another one was Angel was going to tell Buffy about Connor in season 7 but Joss thought it wasn't relevant. Though I thought it would be cool.

Nope, It was going to end at Season 5 but as I said before he got a good contract with UPN to be picked up for two full seasons rather than the usual one. Not true. Joss Whedon: I knew we weren't finishing, I knew I was gonna bring her back, and Season 6 is clearly about "But I was done! Why am I back?" and dealing with the pain of "I had closure, but life continues". Joss Whedon: How will we bring her back? With great difficulty, of course. And pain and confusion. Will it be cheezy? I don't think so. (I've loved some of the theories here on how it might be done.) The fact is, we've had most of next season planned before we ever shot this ep. Marti Noxon: Nobody had any ultimate evidence that Season 5 would be the end. We were preparing for it. At this time during Season 5, we didn't know what network Buffy was going to be on. But we were all hoping we'd be on somewhere. Creatively, we all wanted to continue ... And I agree that Chosen is a better series finale. You can't have a series about female empowerment end with the heroine's death.

Well I liked both episodes. I liked the Way BTVS ended its run in CHosen. I mean it didn't leave you hangin like Angel did. I'm sorry but I hated the way Angel ended... Too many inanswered questions and Joss knew it was going to be the last episode of the series

Watch Buffy: Between the lines it backs up most of what I'm saying because Joss was pissed off that it was the 100th episode and the series was gouing to be neding not becasue it wasn't doing well but becasue of money.

OMG it's so weird that someone made a thread about this I just watched the gift yesterday and Everyone time I watch the gift I cry especially when Spike cries it's so sad and the way the end of the season is the gravestone. it's seriously a great episode if not the best.

My girlfriend just finished Season 1 and she cried during Prophecy Girl. She just doesn't even know how much more "teary" she show gets. The Gift for example, and of course, The Body.

Ok I can't really choose between "Chosen" and "The Gift," but I can tell you something I am confused about..."death of a slayer brings another." That has been for generations and genrations...Buffy dies for a second at the end of season 1 and Kendra was activated! Buffy dies for the Summer in "The Gift," and we get no new slayer until WIllow activates all the potentials in "Chosen."

I think thats because buffy had already died and the next slayer after her had already been activated back in season 1 but if it was faith who had died i would assume there would be a new slayer

I love both episodes just about equally, I think. I can appreciate the potent message behind 'The Gift' but at the same time I think it would have been too unbearably sad if the series had ended with Buffy dying like that. I don't know if I could have handled it! LOL! I think that the episode is beautifully tragic, but at the same time I am very glad that it wasn't the end, that we got two more seasons and now a season eight. Anything that keeps the Buffyverse around is good in my book. I love it far too much to ever let it go! Plus, season 7 just happens to be one of my fave seasons, overall. I think that both finales have a beutiful message and I love them both.

I think thats because buffy had already died and the next slayer after her had already been activated back in season 1 but if it was faith who had died i would assume there would be a new slayer I don't remember where I heard this, but I think the explanation is as follows: Dawn, in human form, is essentially the same thing as Buffy. This is why Buffy's death closed the portal. Because of that, even though Buffy technically died, as far as the Slayer Line was concerned, she was still around (in the form of Dawn). That means that for someone to replace Buffy, both she and Dawn would need to die (whereas Faith dying would call a new slayer right away). That sound right?

Nope, Faith was the active slayer. So, Faiht would have had to have died in order for a new slayer to come.
Buffy was active until season 1. Then she died and Kendra came. Then she died and Faith came.
Buffy is as good as dead when it came to the next slayer in line because she was dead.
