I think it was more directed at fans of Whedon's more sci-fi-ish, TV work.
However, while I find it to be grossly generalizing and more rant-ish than thought out argument, I can see where she (I thought it was a she the first time I read this a while ago) is coming from. While not all of us are rabid fans, there are some who will buy just about anything that "Whedon has his hand in"... and she probably had the unfortunate experience of knowing them.
Whatever. I mean, I can shrug it off. People make fun of Trekkies all the time, and they're still happy in their fandom. What's the big?
Also, I don't find myself rushing to bash her comments about the acting. SMG is a brilliant Buffy, so much so that I can't see anyone else playing the character. But I also have not seen SMG play anything other than Buffy, other than in Cruel Intentions. Someone suggested because it's because she's run the gamut of expressional range in the show. Fair enough. Doesn't really change the fact that she's even been anything other than a great Buffy. My personal opinion, I accept yours.
Also, Eliza Dushku... I've cringed multiple times at her bad girl lingo. And with the hand gestures. Watch S7 objectively, and if you still want to hand her an Emmy, that's your prerogative.
I've seen Amber Benson and Michelle T in some other productions, but usually as supporting roles. I know that ASH looks great in drag and has a wonderfully mellow voice.
But from an outsider POV, if you're not aware of all these other projects and such that the cast work on, it's easy to say that they've amounted to nothing much outside the show.
Maybe she should have researched a little better before slamming a fanbase? Yes.
But maybe we should just shrug and join the Trekkies in their geeky Nirvana too?
