Does anyone else wish they'd continued with that relationship? I've been watching season 2 and 3 again and there was such an open window for growth with those two! They kind of just dropped that one off the face of the planet after season 4.
Just imagine Giles in the true position of watcher/father. ya know?

I think they should have gone on a date or two to see what could have happened, but I guess they weren't interested in each other or didn't want to mess things up for Buffy, in case they ended up hurting each other.
I think it would have been interesting to see them fall in love and break up, and how Buffy would be caught in the middle.
But the Jenny-fan in me is glad that Giles didn't find a new love on the show. Now in season 8 tough, he should have a relationship.
Gaith or Files anyone?

I don't think Giles and Joyce dating would've made sense until after 'Band Candy'. It would've been hilarious if they'd secretly been dating and Buffy didn't find out until season 4. She comes home to visit her mom and finds her and Giles making out. And hey, it would've given Giles and Joyce something to do during season 4.

I think it would've been worth it for the two of them to at least see if anything was there, because they did have that huge factor in common: Buffy. Who knows, they could've been happy together, and that's a rarity in the Buffyverse.

I'm glad that they didn't get together. Not every relationship should be explored.

I think that it would have been neat to explore. Not for sure how it would have worked out but it would have been nice to have seen.

I'm glad that they didn't get together. Not every relationship should be explored. True. But considering they made reference to their attraction to each other, at least 4times after Bad Candy, the natural progression of things would be for it to get appropriate attention on the show to sort out the loose ends. Instead we saw them uncomfortable and nervous around each other and for what? because they made out while under a spell? eh..... I was never really a fan of Jenny. I wish I had that love for her, but I found her annoying. and faith and giles....thats just wrong all over..

Aw, Joyce and Giles would have been so cute. LOL they were really kind of embarassed after that incident on the police car...
Hm...it may have been kind of awkward for Buffy, though, she was already pretty disgusted with what happened in Band Candy lol
I don't think it would have ended well, either way, though...you know...tragic endings and all.

He's old enough to be her grandfather! Um... Ever heard of Bangel and Spuffy? Huge age-difference. I think that could be argued. Spike and Angel are both vampires, both YOUNG looking vampires. I meanm they are both well over 100 years older than Buffy, but I don't think that means why they want to go do an 80 year old, they both probably have the same attractions at their age when they got turned. Faith and Giles, both human. Just..... nasty. Who knows? Faith's kinky, maybe she likes doing wrinkly old men.

Joyce deserved to be with a nice, attractive guy like Giles. The only boyfriend she had after her divorce was Robot Ted. And that one date in I Was Made to Love You.
I don't really see it as every relationship not needing to be explored, but that Giles and Joyce were both marginalized in terms of having an active personal life around season 4 onwards (yes Giles had Olivia over but I don't think she was really developed as a character at all so its hard to be invested).
I think Giles had some very good memories of Joyce. I love the scene in Forever where he's listening to Ulysses, the same song that he and Joyce jammed to in Band Candy. And clearly Joyce had some good memories of their magic hook-up..."what's a stevadore?"
I would've gladly traded some Buffy/Riley screentime to see Giles/Joyce. It just seems like a hilarious situation for Buffy to have to deal with. Way more entertaining than 'Oh Riley you have insecurity issues, let me chase you over town so you don't kill yourself'.

I would have loved to see more Giles/Joyce development. Like Emmie said, it was obvious that Giles cared for her very much, with that scene in "Forever" where he listened to the song they listened to in "Band Candy," which was also just a really heartbreaking scene. Sadly, after Jenny, Giles didn't get many romantic story lines (besides Olivia who made what, 3 appearances?). Kind of a shame really.

Nothing is more of a turn off and a let down than meeting someone (attractive or not) that you have little in common with. I think with Faith, she really needed someone who had a bit of an edge like Robin. I actually thought they made a pretty good match but oh well lol

A part of me really would've liked to see Joyce and Giles get together. I loved it when they had scenes together. I only wish that they had had more.

I think Giles and Joyce would've been a good relationship to have on the show, but I don't think they would've been able to find room for it without cutting something else from S4. While it might seem like a lackluster season to some, there was all that drama with the Scoobs spiltting apart, Buffy and Riley getting together and having problems, and finding out just what the heck the Initiative and Maggie Walsh were up to. I don't remember Buffy going home much in S4, thus, not much Joyce.

yeah but the initiative and maggie had WAY too much influence on the plot. I thought it was a boring subplot to include especially after figuring out spikes chip. that one thing ended up taking forever to explain! we could've gone without them for 3 or so episodes to kind of open up a relationship with J&G. and then occasionally having them talking or hanging out throughout the rest of 4, them realizing they wouldn't be able to work it out (maybe because Joyce would rather buffy be safe, then step up to the challenges she faces?) and Giles realizing that this affair would interfere with his guidance of Buffy.
I think it would've kept everything fresh, and then Giles scene listening to Cream would make even more sense to those viewers who had no idea what happened in season 3 between them.
hmmm whatelse could we have done without in season 4...
