Restless. Make em watch that so they think the entire series is Brian Lynch, then they'll grovel at you for an hour about how stupid they were to think your show was dumb. (deathismygift, best avatar ever!!) What does Brian Lynch have to do with Restless? I've tried for years for my friends to like Buffy. The only episode that they always seem to like is Chosen. And that's only because Anya dies. You're friends have evil tendencies. lol.

I was confused about the Brian Lynch reference as well.

They mean David Lynch, the director who has crazy non-chronologically movies.

Yeah I think "Storyteller" is a good one to start with. Just because it's really funny and is sort of like a summary type of episode. With Andrew as the commentator so it's a good starting off point. Also doesn't give away too many spoiler's so it will probably peak his interest..and if not you could alway's try to get him to watch Angel.

I think picking one of the best early seasons episodes is the best choice, because it is too spoilery otherwise, and since the characters only begin to grow in early seasons, you can "get on board" with them. And the Slayer mythology is simpler to understand at this point too. I think it's better to simply start with the first episodes, even if they're not the best ones. (Sorry for the multi occurences of "best" !)
Here's my fairytale (lol) : my boyfriend used to dislike Buffy. I convinced him once to watch "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "The Harvest", but he didn't like them very much. He just couldn't get into it. I didn't insist, but since Buffy is a reference to me, I often mention it during conversations. When we talk about philosophy, society issues, TV shows and so on, I often refer to Buffy. I didn't do it on purpose, but it made him curious about Buffy, and he finally wanted to try again. This time I started with "The Witch" since he already watched the two first ones. He liked it this time, and finally watched the entire show. Now he thinks he wouldn't watch the last seasons again because they're too violent for him, but he recognizes Buffy as one of the best shows ever, and as the more accurate in describing human emotions. I tried to make him watch the spinoffs in Angel during season 4 of Buffy, but he didn't like AtS at all then. But now he changed his mind and we are currently watching season 1 of Angel !
What I want to say to you, but I'm sure you already know that, is not everyone can enjoy Buffy. The show goes to the heart emotionnally, it talks about true things, and hard things. It's not something everybody want to watch, or can endure, can enjoy, can understand, or is ready for. Truth is violent. I'm very lucky ! I hope you can at least make your brother listen to you when you speak.

one time i tried with "the body" and it works very well to convince reluctants peoples, but it's a little spoilerish. i think "the prom" is a good one. I used The Body on my buddy. Worked great. And it freaked out his uber-religious brother. Also, try Hush. It might not work for people who don't already know the characters, but it's probably worth a try.

I love Andrew, and I love "Storyteller", but I gotta say I think it might be one of the worst possible choices to try to convince someone to start watching. Especially a guy who might be reluctant because he already thinks the show's 'too gay' (for lack of a better term). Andrew's sort of an acquired taste, and there are even plenty of people who love the show who can't stand him... Whoever suggested "School Hard" (I'm too lazy to go back and look--sorry), I think that was a very good choice, too.

Stake them, drain their life force, bite their heads off, decapitate them, blow them up, shoot them with a rocket launcher, suck the humanity out of them, etc. etc. until they admit that BtVS is the best television show ever.

Whoever suggested "School Hard" (I'm too lazy to go back and look--sorry), I think that was a very good choice, too. I think I suggested it first, but others followed. My favorite episode of all time. "Get the hell away from my daughter!" I wish my mom was like that.

I'd show my friends episodes of Angel instead of Buffy to introduce them to the show.

I'd show my friends episodes of Angel instead of Buffy to introduce them to the show. I agree with this too. Possibly "Ive got you under my skin" or "the ring". Mostly any episode in season one excluding the horribly bad ones.

Hush is probably one of the best episodes to win over the nay-sayers. I got one roommate hooked after making him watch that episode.

The body.
Not a typical Buffy episode, but I think he would want to watch more.

The body. Not a typical Buffy episode, but I think he would want to watch more. The only problem with that is that it gives away WAY too much and you need to know Joyce before you watch it. If you finally show it to the hater let us all know how it went, k?

I managed to get my mum into Buffy during season 5. She fell for the Spangel story line and just kept watching, waiting for them to get it on!
It depends on the individual person your trying to get to watch it. With my boyfriend, I just started him from the beginning but he was a bit more willing to watch seeing as it was something that meant alot to me. Now he's watched them all and can understand what I'm waffling on about!

I watched Sense and Sensitivity (Angel Season 1 Episode 6) last night with my girlfriend and I was thinking that would probably be a pretty good Angel episode to show.

Like a lot of people I used 'The Body' on a friend of mine who was adamant about hating Buffy until the day he died. The emotion in that episode is just so raw that no one can not like it. It got him to give the show a chance and now he likes it. Not as much as I do but he watched all of it.

My roommate had always been hating on Buffy. After a few months and he noticed I was STILL watching, he walked in on an episode and was hooked ever sense. That episode was Pangs. One of my favorites. I also think Fear, Itself would be a good one.
