Courtesy of the success of Summit Entertainment's teen vampire drama, it looks like a brand new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie could be in the works, according to a newspaper in Australia (hard to consider it a credible source, although they have broke a few big pieces of news in the past). Read on for the news and feel free to chime in on the story - is horror heading in the wrong direction? Our good friends over at Moviehole.net discovered the following in the Herald-Sun Newspaper: "The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role." We'll keep you posted if anything new develops..." OMG Im so exicted thank god for twilight but hopefully its Buffy Buffy and not some new chick. Hopefully Joss doesn't read the comments there and actually does a remake cause my god i'de be horrified lol i really want this to be a S8 film more than anything how about you guys.

*reads* It's clearly bullshit, but something very similar could very well happen. Vampires are in right now it seems. I'd be happy that something good came out of Twilight, now if only someone could point out a positive in that turd Soulja Boy's existence I'd be happy lol

If you check over on Whedonesque, all these rumors came from one of the members there writing an article saying he *wished* there would be a Buffy movie. Apparently, that was enough to get the Buffy rumor mill going worldwide.

I just got todays paper and it wasn't in there, so I called my Mum to see if she can get yesterdays paper from work because it might be in there... and I still need to get the 1992 film on DVD...

I don't mind the orignial movie. Its still Buffy, maybe not SMG Buffy but she is till in there somewhere underneath all the "loike yeah sure" and all the lip gloss and shoes. It was Joss's script it was just tampered to hell by the producers which is why he left.
Anyway I do see a Buffy movei happening eventually but it won't be anytime soon...my guess is 2010- 2011. Regaardless of the date or year I would wait in line behind 100 Spartnas just to go and see it. Just like I did with the Serenity Movie. Looong wait, luckily I am good at skipping the cue. lol

Sarach Michelle made it VERY clear that she doesn't want to do anything else with Buffy. Hence her voice not being in the game as Buffy or her being played by some body else in Angel season 5 in the few eps. you get to see her from behind. So it will def. be a new chick.

Yeah, she's said multiple times that if the script was good and all the other cast members jumped on board, so would she. (Probably a good paycheck too) She wasn't in Angel Season 5 because at one point there was a death of a relative, and she was filming The Grudge. She told Joss she could do the last episode, but he didn't want the finale to be about Buffy coming back. |

I feel dumb now. I thought "welp" was an insult, but now I see (and hope) it was typo. So I'm sorry for seeming like a complete ass.
I do remember her saying she wanted to move on and focus on her movie career, but that was just a couple years after Buffy ended. The past year or so she has seemed more open to it whenever it's mentioned in interviews.

She appears to have had a change of heart, no doubt partly because she noticed her movie career was a steamy pile of shite lol. In any case, it seems SMG would no longer be a hinderance to the film (if only there weren't other, more pressing issues like no studio wanting to do it ;D) |

I bet if the script was written and all the cast agreed to star, SOME studio would greenlight it. Mary Parent at MGM? When she was with Universal, she made Serenity happen. Her first move at MGM was giving Cabin in the Woods the greenlight, so she's obviously a Joss fan. But isn't Buffy owned by 20th Century FOX? I have no clue how this works.

I'm no expert either. I think you raise a good point, in that the movie would be far more likely if Joss and co. were really pushing for it.
In terms of Serenity comparissons, I think the cast and the fans alike just aren't the same; because Firelfy was cut so short, it HAD to continue. Everyone is pretty happy with where Buffy was left. A new movie is a bonus, not a neccessity.
Because of this, I can only see a movie happening for two reasons: A studio actively pursues Joss for it, or: Joss has a spark of imagination that drives him to pursue it himself. He seems happy enough to move on with other projects While Buffy moves on in comic form, so I think most musings from himself and cast are nothing more than fan-service.
