Xander's poor reactions to Buffy's decisions are quite real though. I have a female friend who constantly creates relationship trainwrecks, and it does stuff to you as the friend. Not something to be proud of, but it's hard not to start acting an arse.

Its not like Xander hasn't had his own relationship train wrecks. I actually think its worse for him to be happily dating Anya than for Buffy to be sleeping with Spike or Angel. Spike and Angel had changed in some way at that point, had switched sides, were trying to atone for the things they'd done wrong. Anya had her powers taken away, tried repeatedly to get them back, and then finally resigned herself to being human, but continued to chatter about all the men she'd tortured over the years. She never said she regretted it or it was wrong or she wanted to change, she never even seemed to comprehend that Xander and his friends thought her vengeance morals were messed up. All those times she said things like "oh and this one time, I cast this spell on a guy that made him _____" and Xander never once sat her down and asked if she thought it was really ok to do those things to people? Did she ever think about how the women who made the wishes were suffering because of the outcome as well?
Also, at least Buffy admits that she's sleeping with ex-killers. Xander has completely got his head in the sand about Anya and who she is. Now I'd have no real issues with them being together if they had her live as a human for awhile and then realize how much she had been hurting innocent people, but no, she never made the connection at all, not even after Hallie almost killed them all at that party.

Yeah but Anya wasn't actually a demon when she would always recall her demon days. That's why everything changed in hells bells & selfless when she became a demon and started killing 'deserving' men again & Buffy resolved she had to kill her. I think it was perhaps jumping the gun a bit- why not talk to Anya & try to convince her to stop first? She was obviously feeling remorse for what she had done, but Xander finally got bit in the ass by his actions in season two (becoming). Not telling BUffy that WIllow was working to restore Angels soul so she would kill him- I mean, I know xander had a crush on buffy but twisted much? This episode is fascinating all around. Getting to see more of D'Hoffryn is great and his interaction w/Willow is always funny. Anya's backstory is done so well. Anya's journey is crazy. She chose to become a demon, unwillingly became human, chose to become a demon again & then ultimately chose to become human again. Very interesting how much she went through. The episode gives her character some depth. She is in fact the shows oldest character! Oh..and we get more singing!!! A+++

I'm aware that Anya wasn't a demon at the time that she was dating Xander, but that isn't the point. Xander had a long term relationship with her and was in love with her, and apparently didn't care that she clearly still thought all of her vengeance had been justified.
Could you date an ex-serial killer who had stopped killing but still brought it up in casual conversation and didn't think he had done anything wrong?

Actually its amazing that Buffy and Xander have stayed friends for all these years, given how much they disrespect each other's choices and how harsh they can be when stressed. That proves how strong their friendship is, surviving all these fights and growing closer and stronger as friends. Just because he thinks her dating vampires is bad doesn't mean she should give up being his friend. When Buffy had been ignored by Giles and Willow during her first days at college, it was Xander who gave her back confidence and support. He'd been there for her on more occasions than the times he fought with her.

I was just remembered that scene where Aud was playing with the bunnies before Olaf got home. It's funny that she is so frightened of bunnies now. Do you think maybe the bunnies got into that troll potion and gave her a good fright??? lol I always thought that Anya became afraid of bunnies because they reminded her of her pre-demon days and her life with Olaf (whom she clearly seemed to care for at the time). So, I don't think that Anya is afraid of bunnies so much as what they represent for her. I think the bunnies trigger for her memories of a time when she was still human and at her most vulnerable (also clearly suffering some heartbreak and betrayal too since it was Olaf which lead Anya to becoming a vengeance demon in the first place). So, I think Anya's fear of bunnies is much more a psychological thing than an actual fear. Of course maybe I am reading far too much into the whole thing...That's what you get from a psych major. But yeah, I love Selfless. Definitely one of my fave eps of the season and of the series as a whole. Anya is a great character. <3 her!

obviously, i watched season 2 before season 7, and i knew that in season 7 the truth came out about Xander lying about what Willow had said in Becoming Part 2 about kicking angelus' ass and i knew at some point in time, buffy was kicked out of her house.
1. Xander lied. 2. Buffy thinks willow said to kick angelus' ass. 3. Willow didn't say anything.
so buffy would be mad at willow who would be mad at xander who would be mad at buffy... i think...
