honestly, i think it's a little bit of both... i think he's an oblivious tool and the actives are trained to be that good.

I don't think Mellie is an Active, mostly because I don't think the writers would pull the same trick they did with Victor. And also during tonight's episode, Claire said it can be dangerous for an Active to be imprinted with the same personality multiple times, and based on what we've seen of Mellie, she's been smitten with Paul for awhile now. But my theory: Just because Miracle is playing Mellie now, it doesn't mean November won't exist.

I thought that it was made quite clear that when the show was restructured, the character of November was scrapped (for now), and Miracle Laurie would now play a potential love interest of Ballard's. It was also stated that the November character wasn't dead yet, just that she didn't fit in with the show right now. Click here to be linked to Joss' post over at Whedonesque. It's quite a read... but the pertinent section is the 4th to last paragraph.

well the only thing i have against what you said is that as far as we know, Victor only was imprinted with a new personality when he needed to get out of there and was given a new assignment. that doesn't mean he wasn't continually imprinted... and i think that Mellie is going to be November because, as far as we know, she's been active just as long as Victor/lubov was... and i'm sure they have to put the Actives through a trial to see if they're strong enough to withstand long engagements.

snizapman6294: You may want to click on the link in my post above. It's the official word from Joss, so it's about as definitive as it gets.

so i did just read that... and the only reason i brought up this thread was because i saw it on IMDB that in the next episode, Miracle Laurie was cast as November... possibly a mistake? i don't completely know... that's why i posted.... but thanks, wexina, that really helped!

I guess it's totally possible that at some point Mellie will turn out to be November. I mean the people in charge of Dollhouse know Agent Ballard is aggressively investigating them and it would make sense that they would want to keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn't get too close.
With that said, I won't be holding my breathe. Joss has already stated that the November character was scrapped and it would potentially come off pretty lame if they pulled another Viktor reveal so soon in the series.

I really didn't expect that, Joss fooled me. I thought that if the show continued into Season 2, Mellie would become an Active, but what happened was so much cooler.

Evil evil Joss! Lies... all lies! Gah! Well, for now, she's Mellie the Sleeper Active. I guess we'll find out soon enough if her "name" is November... or if the November character will appear later on.

my guesss is that Mellie didn't qualify to be an actual active, therefore, sleeper active.

The November character was supposed to be the one that got more of the personal/romantic missions, and less of the criminal/high risk ones. But I don't think it has anything to do with her qualifications... Mellie did wipe the floor with the sleaze when her trigger was activated. I'm kinda wondering if Mellie's personality is her actual own, or if it's an imprint of someone that Ballard would trust. It would be easy to imprint a sleeper into her "Mellie" imprint.

i think Mellie is in fact Mellie and the sleeper-active Mellie is a kickass assassin...

I think I'll wait till next week to be sure, but DeWitt did tell Dominic to bring Mellie in for an assessment. If Mellie is truly Mellie, it'd be hard to just bring her in. If the personality is imprinted, the "treatment" line should do the trick. I guess we'll see.
