In "Briar Rose", I noticed that Victor (as Laurence) said "Whiskey", directing it toward Claire. Adelle took it as him wanting whiskey instead of a sedation, I don't.
Whiskey is the "W" name in the NATO phonetic alphabet which the Dollhouse uses to name the actives. Coincidence?
Another hint toward Claire being an active is that she is the only featured Dollhouse staff member that didn't get the virus from "Echoes". The virus was shown to act differently on actives than on regular people. Laurence, Adelle, Topher, and Boyd all caught the virus whereas Claire didn't so we don't have proof that Claire isn't an active like we have for the rest of the staff. Another coincidence?
I think Claire might be Whiskey.

Very significant:
ALPHA: "Have you always wanted to be a doctor?"
CLAIRE: "Yes."
ALPHA: "That's a lie."
Yes, I think Claire is an Active.

Interesting theory, but i'm gonna have to go with no. I feel like if she were, it would've been hinted or even addressed by now. I mean it's the finale next week and a storyline that big would've been something we could've guessed by now.
Don't get me wrong! it's an excellently... wait. i re-read the original post. and i'm changing my opinion. it would be incredibly plausible if claire is an active...
another piece of evidence could be the fact that when Echo was interrogating her in Spy in the House of Love, Claire said she doesn't go home... maybe she has a pod of her own.

Man, good catch with the Whiskey thing! I have to agree, I totally think she is an active. Maybe, because they were just subtle hints, it could be a storyline they were planning for second season (if it even happens).

Thanks for starting this thread. I really didn't believe it until I read this very argument on another forum. I didn't catch it myself, but I think it's totally plausible, knowing Joss.

I'm pretty sure she is. Right when Laurence-in-Victor's-body said "whiskey" and looked at Claire, I instantly thought ACTIVE ALERT! ACTIVE ALERT!

Well, I think you just presented an early hint, if Saunders is indeed a Doll. Even Boyd has remarked that she always stays in the Dollhouse. If she is indeed a former Doll, I guess we have seen one possible outcome for physically damaged Dolls. There's hope beyond the Attic! Woo!

Adding to this spoilerish discussion, it's billed that a Doll may not make it out of the season alive. Could it be that Saunders was off'd, and now Victor, a freshly damaged doll may become Dr. Saunders?

I've never even considered it, but I suppose it is possible. There are plenty of people that would like to be a doctor and not have to work for it.

there are some great points here, but i don't think she is. there's too many big reveals
*gasp* Mellie is an Active! *gasp* Stephen/Alpha is an Active! *gasp* Laurence is evil!
they were all great reveals and moments, but i think if Claire was all of a sudden an Active, it would start to take away the impact. i think she's just a regular old character, with some sort of history with Alpha.

This is an amazing clue you found, Joe! Awesome listening skills! I think she very well could be an active. I always thought that maybe she was an ex-active, but maybe you're right. I don't think they would save this until the finale to tell us though. There will be a lot going on next episode, and I don't think they will just though in 'Claire is an active, by the way.' Maybe they will tell us she is an active in season 2(if it goes that fare.) They could have been leaving hints the whole time, idk. But very good idea. You may be right. EDIT : OMG, I just rewatched the part, and I am all for Claire a an active! Dominic is saying all of their names, and then says 'Whiskey' so Claire. The way he said it, and looked at Claire was a very big support to this theory. I totally think you are right, Joe. Maybe, when Alpha went no his killing spree, he harmed 'Whiskey', and then she was turned into a Dollhouse Worker, because no one would want a ruined doll? Maybe Victor will become a Dollhouse Worker as well, because of his slashes on his face? Went back and watched the flashback with Claire in The Target. The only hint I could find to this, was that Adelle took a couple seconds to say 'Dr. Saunders.' Maybe because she was about to call her 'Whiskey' by mistake? Also, the flashback takes place at least a day or two after the Alpha killing event, which means that they would have had time to change Whiskey into a Dr. by then. That would support my idea. Adding to this spoilerish discussion, it's billed that a Doll may not make it out of the season alive. Could it be that Saunders was off'd, and now Victor, a freshly damaged doll may become Dr. Saunders? I totally think this is going to happen. It just seems so... Joss-like. lol

i just put this in another thread, i really think that she used to be a normal active and alpha slashed her up so they permanently imprinted her as a doctor to make her useful as opposed to sending er to the attic

Good catch guys! I was waiting for a doll called whiskey as well, can't believe I didn't catch it! It does kinda make sense to have as few people as possible in the dollhouse by normal civilians. It means less chance of leaks.

Ok, I was uneasy at first, even about my own theory, but now I'm for sure. Claire IS Whiskey. I watched the scene again.
*Laurence panics, and looks at Topher*
Laurence: TOPHER!
*He then looks at Adelle*
Laurence: ADELLE! Please, please don't!
*He then looks at Claire*
Laurence: WHISKEY!
*Claire looks toward Adelle, confused*
Claire: He wants whiskey?
Adelle: I'm not surprised.
I'm for sure now. Claire is Whiskey.

In The Target's flashback scene, didn't Topher say something like "Dr Saunders looks like a jigsaw puzzle". I took that to mean the scars Alpha did on her face. So, if Claire is indeed the "Whiskey" doll, that should be prior to the Alpha incident, wouldn't it? It would explain his questioning about when they first met: he could be checking how far the Saunders imprint was going on Whiskey.
Another thing: if Claire really is a doll, why wouldn't the Dollhouse give (or force) her a plastic surgery and erase the trauma? I'm pretty sure that will happen to Victor... unless, Alpha knew exactly where to cut the doll's face, just enough to damage them so a new trip to the chair wouldn't be possible, like a "permanent" imprint...?
God, I love this show!

I saw in the Promo Vid for Omega another flashback for the Alpha crazy-slash-fest... so perhaps they will show Claire as Whiskey getting slashed "outing her". It also says in the plot summary that a doll's past will be revealed... I'm hoping that'll be Whiskey/Claire.

Oh. My. God. Joe, this is brilliant! I had never even considered Claire being an active. Thinking back to that scene, the Whiskey line makes a whole lot more sense, because... whiskey for sedation? C'mon, no one's done that since the Civil War.
I'm actually spazzing a bit now, because this is such a cool discovery. :3
