So I had my college admissions meeting this week (i know, i'm 15 and my parents are freaking out! me + college = ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!) and the first thing she asked me was "Well, what do you wanna be when you grow up?" not gonna lie, i gave her the dirtiest most judgmental look i've ever given... and then i said "Well, ummmm... i love to write. i'm not a bad actor and i legit could spend like days straight watching tv... (she gave me an equally dirty look) so i'd love to work on a network show either writing or acting. (she glared at me again)... ya know or maybe a psychiatrist or maybe a marine biologist...?" as soon as i stopped talking i thought about the SlayAlive "fail smiley" so here it is!!!  she then spent 20 minutes yelling at me about my grades, girls, and life in general and blahty blahty blah... where was i going with this??? ah yes. what do you wanna be when you grow up, little girl/boy? |

I'm currently in Uni and on my way to being a Psychologist. I'd love to be a childhood - through to emerging adulthood Psychologist in my or a clinic of somesorts. This could also be working within a school  Ive wanted to do this since I was about 15, and I took a KidsHelpLin Peer Counselling course and I wanted tobe a counsellor but they suggested I aim at Psych, so I did. Before that I varied from wanting to be a radio host (I did my work experience at as one!) a chef, a teacher & a hair dresser  haha. |

I wanted to be an actor when I was in high school. I wasn't that bad, I could remember lines pretty quickly and I did perform in two plays during my final year. Funnily enough, drama was the only subject I passed when I finished high school, but I gave up on the thoughts of being an actor. Now, I'm just trying to work on my first novel, hoping that it might take me somewhere (besides, my mother kept annoying me about it lol)

I plan to be an academic in the field of human evolution. My particular interests revolve around the evolution of the human developmental process, from conception to adulthood and how this changed to incorporate increasing sociality and brain development. I finish my MSc in September and am trying to get PhD funding (hard hard hard). *fingers crossed*
oh, and snizapman6294, she sounds like a real narrow-minded bitca. I hate it when someone in that kind of position asks what you want to do, and if you tell them what you actually want to do, they just tell you that you should want to do something else, more straight and narrow.
This is how they'd like every meeting to go:
Careers Advisor: "So young man, what would you like to be when you grow up?"
Kid: "Well, I don't have any ambition as such. I'd like to be a mindless automaton with no imagination please."
Careers Advisor: "Good boy." *pats head* "Have a wowwypop"

That's so great that you're writing a book Night Lord! When do you plan to finish it & what is it about? I don't know when I plan on finishing it exactly, maybe in another couple of years. I have doubts about it every now and again, so I'm quite confused about it. And as for what's it about, well, I've been somewhat influenced by Angel, hence my doubt |

Cool thread. I thought I was the youngest in the forum lol. Im 15 too ;D
I want to be either a journalist or a councillor. I would love to do some volunteer work also. I am a member of a cross comunity youth group and so when I hit 18 I will volunteer for that too ;D

I wanted to be a tornado chaser when I was younger. I was really interested in them for some reason and saw the movie "Twister" and was hooked. It's really dangerous but exciting!
Now I'm just a slave to nursing school, which is pretty much hell.

Mine went very similiar to this. Mine was 7 years ago, and I still remember the stupid woman who was talking to me. Ours was more of a career thing though, it wasn't college admission people, it was just well-off people in our community trying to help out the unfortunate young people. When she asked me the dreaded question I told her I wanted to get into law enforcement. Then she asked why. I told her that it'd always been an interest of mine, and I was good at solving problems, and that I was a good people reader (I'm good at reading emotions on people, even slight ones). And that there wasn't really any mystery I haven't seen on shows like CSI that I wasn't able to figure out. It seemed like all she heard was tv show, and she said life isn't a tv show. Um, okay, using it as an example of how I use my thought process, wasn't saying that I want to live like the Care Bears for crying out loud, lol. I haven't been to college yet, I'm trying to save up for it. I'm hoping within a few years I'll be able to go. Just trying to get through life at the moment, which is hard because the United States economy sucks so darn bad. I'm really no longer interested in law enforcement. I'm more interested in 3 different things: Writing, Archaeology, and Art. |

But do you do something you wanted to? Well when I was really little I wanted to be a dentist (I know, kinda weird for a little kid), but as a teenager I wanted to play in a band (I'm a singer/songwriter/guitarist). Since I didn't make it big I worked in the music industry (sales and marketing) for a long time then eventually into electronics/appliances. I do love what I do, it's just not a "dream job". My priorities have also changed, and money became more important (and necessary). I hope that everyone chases their dreams to the fullest. If you do that and try, you won't be disappointed. I believe that with hard work and talent you can be whatever you want. In some cases, you find out that you like something that you never thought you would like. |

OMG greer! Tornado chaser! I so love you!  Hope they aren't torturing you too much in nursing school You can still dream of the twisters though! Jess you would be awesome in art - for sure! And archaeology sounds so interesting!...and some people (e.g that horrid woman) should not work with children/teens! Kill our dreams why don't you ! Night Lord I too absolutely love anciety egyptian & greek cultures! For my birthday I got a massive Ancient Egypt encyclopedia and I loves it so much, it's fascinating! |

Yeah, I got one as well for Christmas a couple of years ago, as well as a small encyclopedia. I also have a large encyclopedia on ancient mythologies, which is cool
