I think it's safe to say that it was Angel who turned Gunn. The last line of the issue was, "They think they've changed me", over a picture of Vamp Gunn. Wasn't Wolfram & Hart trying to make him evil pretty much the whole series?

I loved this first issue! It was so cool! The beginning with Angel and his thoughts and the dragon and Angel fighting the demons to save a girl. It's SO Angel! Great opening! The Santa Monica scene was good, cause it was good to see Connor, Nina and Gwen again. And it looks like Gwen has control of her electric ability. The demons this issue were SO fantastic! Loved them, especially the skeleton made of water with the glowing ball for a heart called Kr'ph. I LOVED that their was a telepathic fish called Betta George! Brilliant! It was cool to see Gunn again when him and his crew were fighting the demons, but it was even cooler to see Gunn as a vampire feasting on the girls he just saved! And WESLEY BACK AS A GHOST! COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED! Love it! And even though we didn't get to see Spike and Illyria this issue, it's OK because I know that issue #2 is Spike dedicated and issue #3 is Illyria dedicated! Can't wait! So this issue was top notch! Bring on issue #2! In time for Christmas too! Keep up the excellent work Brian!

I was making a joke, Mikey. Sorry man, sometimes tone is a bit hard to read on the internet. And I like your hair, for honest and for true. But enough about me, are you going to read the comic? You haven't said one way or the other yet. See? That was an adorable joke. I accept your apology. And thanks for the comments on my hair if you're being genuine. I'm actually touching it up this morning, I'm going to my grandparents' house for Thanksgiving and no one on that side of the family has seen it yet. Yikes! I hope I don't give the old folks a heart attack... Are you going to read it Mikey?

hey folks i won't be able to read it until late january, but still i'm hungry for spoilers.. so what's the deal with season 6?
i get by some of your posts that gunn has been vamped (joss' been saying that since the cancellation, but still a shocker) and wesley has somehow replaced the creepy girl in the white room, as his contract extended beyond death.
can anyone give me a more or less detalied summary? thanks

Wesley hasn't replaced the creepy girl/panther in The White Room, he is taking orders from someone or something there. He is the last official representative of the LA branch of Wolfram & Hart.

Absolutely loved it. And, just like the show, you have to reread it to catch the nuances and little connections missed the first time through.
And for those of you who haven't met Betta George, then please read Spike "Asylum" and follow that with Spike "Shadow Puppets".
It never occured to me that Wesley signed a contract - Angel was the only one I remember seeing actually signing a contract.
Both Wesley and Gunn took me totally by surprise.

i was very excited for After the Fall upon its announcement, however my excitement dwindled after finishing reading Shadow Puppets. the final 2 issues were just outrageous and completely killed the mini for me. Lynch should of left it with the Angelus puppet and thats it. instead of a reunion of Angel characters in puppet form. i was very hestitant about purchasing AtF#1 but i just couldnt leave the comic shop without a copy. it was calling out to me. i got home and read it, i was happily SHOCKED. Lynch is a very talented writer and i feel Whedon found the right guy to help him do a post-NFA story. im not really digging the art and i found it difficult to notice who some of the characters were. for instance the final page, you know the one with Gunn. i only know it was gun thanks to the outfit.
i really liked how the issue doesnt really tell you anything. you get a few table scraps enough to blow your mind but we are still in the dark. i just hope the quality of this issue carries on throughout the entire series whether it be 12 issues or 50+.
Angel is very broody in this issue which leads me to this theory. he is Gunn's sire. there are really only 2 possibilities of who sired Gunn. Spike and Angel, at the end of NFA his life is hanging by a string. i think Illyria makes a comment about he has 10 minutes left. im thinking he was sired to help fight off the W&H army. this would explain why Illyria is out to kill Angel in issue 3. i defintely get the feeling that Angel is not happy with himself on how that fight turned out. im very eager to see what Spike has been up to, if the variant cover of issue 2 is any hint then he must be enjoying himself.
i think i may read the issue again. this will be read-through number 5.

Welcome Projeck Nemesis, on behalf of the SlayAlive Team! I love your theory about Gunn's sire! It won't surprise me if you are right! thank you. ive been looking for a decent buffy community. ive lurked at a few but havent really found a place to make my nest........until now. getting back to AtF #1, i dont know if anyone else noticed this or maybe im just crazy but the Connor in this issue is not the Connor i remember from Angel Season5. its been awhile since ive watched the series. i really got the feeling that there was a similar level of tension between Connor and Angel that there was in Season4. Angel didnt want the looters to mention his name to Connor and his "family" which is interesting. either Connor wants nothing to do with Angel or Angel feel his has to right this wrong on his own. im thinking he blames himself for LA's current state. i also found this line strange "I take Burge's son..........every demon stuck on this side of the barrier comes to take their place, using the humans as shields, weapons and projectiles." thats the scene where Angel has that living thing on his chest which is supposed to heal him while he is talking to Wes. i dont even remember Angel saying "humans" he always said people. maybe he says humans there because there is no humans present. in any other book i would say it was an error, but Lynch seems to have a great grip on these characters' voices plus with Whedon overseeing this project i highly doubt its an error.

Interesting look at the comic. I don't know what else to say. Although I too believe that if there was a reason he said humans its because Wesley is both kinda-dead and probably-evil. So...

I just finished reading it and I loved it. I really enjoyed the art, like someone else said it's a little more abstract, which I like. The writing is perfect. It really feels like something Joss is producing. The surprise at the end was great, I really thought that would make for a great story. As opposed to Gunn dying five minutes into the battle. At first glance it didn't really look like Gunn to me, he looks a little too white to me, but maybe that's the vampire-i-ness. I don't think Angel would sire him, but who knows? I thought it would be some random vampire in the fight. It would be great to see him assemble an army of vampires (which he could be, considering what Angel said about not finding many vampires) and take the fight to Angel. So Wesley signed a similar contract to Lilah? Is he real? It's nice to see him again, I just hope he can kick some ass and isn't confined to the Wolfram & Hart building.
The blonde was Nina! I was hoping for Harmony. Hopefully we can see her soon. She is so much fun. Great to see Gwen again. Connor seems in character for me, he was so much nicer in season 5, with good reason. Overall a very impressive first issue.

I really like your theory on how Gunn was sired. I'm curious about Wesley though. Lilah and Holland Manners etc seemed to have a corporeal body and were only used when W&H needed them. So why is Wesley an incorporeal ghost? Any ideas?

Hey guys, it's Brian Lynch. I co-plotted and scripted the book. I really hope you enjoy it. Sitting down with Mr. Whedon and learning about what they had planned for season 6, and then incorporating it into the story, was one of the most exciting experiences of my life thus far. I was just reading your threads, and a lot of you seem really excited about it, and I thank you. And Mikey, while it is hilarious that you pop up like Grouchy Smurf every thread to remind people you're not reading it, your facts, unlike your hair, are just wrong: Joss had a lot to do with the series, he laid the groundwork, he and I came up with the entire story, his touches are all over it. Also wrong (oh Mikey, you are on a reverse roll today) is the fact that it's not canon, which it most definitely is. That's kinda the whole point, the official continuation of Angel's story. But please, Mikey, PLEASE don't lose that "I'm not reading it" attitude, I laughed out loud whenever you popped up to remind people that you weren't reading it. You know what I do when I choose not to read something? I don't read it. I had no idea I was supposed to tell people I wasn't. So the following is a list of things I will not read today: 1. BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY 2. THE COMPLETE WORKS OF JIM DAVIS: FROM GARFIELD TO US ACRES 3. the phone book 4. Mikey's blog ("Day six of not reading ANGEL...going well. Got the word out to a few people. really changing some minds. Hair: still fabulous.") Anyway, everyone that reads it, I hope you like the series. Going to be a very fun ride! And anyone in the Los Angeles area, come on down to Meltdown Comics from 12-2 and hang out. Gonna be a signing and whatnot. We can talk and I'll spoil and show you guys some advanced art work. Thanks guys! Enjoy your day! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha I love you

Maybe Wesley was smart enough to sign a different version of the contract that the others signed because he didn't want to be W&H's complete slave after. The contract only causes him to be a ghost. And Fred's soul was destroyed and Gunn probably got out of it cause he's a vampire now.

from what I've read here the comic sounds really good... unfortunately I'm still waiting on season 3 to come in at the library. I should have watched the series earlier, but I just really wasn't interested, but then I got season 4 from the library to watch the episodes with Faith and I just watched the rest of the episodes. hopefully season 3 will come in today.

I read that issue WAY too fast while standing up and playing Magic. But I just couldn't wait. I waited all week for it, and an extra 10 minutes to finish my game didn't sound very nice. I think I missed a lot unfortunately, but I liked it quite a bit. How long after Not Fade Away does this take place? I thought it was going to be immediately after (the same night) but from the look of the book it is several days minimum. Also, does this mean the entire world knows about demons now?

quick question...what's up with the cover that has no title or anything on it, just artwork? Saw it at the comic shop...didn't know what it was all about...as I thought there was a comic-y looking variant?...or is the one with no title/word the variant? Thanks!
