The townspeople short story (and remember, it's very short) doesn't have Nina, it features people with no connection to Angel and crew, just to spotlight what it must have been like for anyone who had no idea these kinda shenanigans were going on in LA.

Ahh, so it's a moment-of-truth moment for the citizens of L.A. to become aware of what really lies out there. Cool.

I wonder if in the "People of L.A." story we will learn exactly nobody knows about Los Angeles?

If it is Harmony that sires Gunn, I hoping he wont kill her after (or during). Harmony ALWAYS getting away is one of my favorite gags.

Is it shorter than Lornes?

Nice that we finally got to see one of the other two covers (there's also supposed to be a Rebecca A. Wrigley version that still hasn't turned up yet, as far as I know). With the new Miller one, anyone else get a flashback of "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that last bit on account of her neck snapping and all--did she say the end is near, or here?"

Why don't you just wait a day? It's more fun to read i in a comic than to just read a post about it.

I just have been waiting to find out about who sired Gunn since like 7 months ago. I don't think I can last another day, but then again. . I'll try not to visit this board again till I get it... I'll try my very hardest.. It's probably for the best anyway.

Ok first off, Big ups to my local comic book store for being amazing. I went in to get #8 for me and they also had a surprise for me. They gave me the beautiful virgin cover issue absolutely free. I know it isn't a HUGE deal because they get it for free anyway, but the fact they gave it to ME was very awesome. Love you ACME COMICS Columbia, SC!!!
As for the issue:
Gwen's story was so good. It was right on with what a wanted in a First Night scenario. It was neat to see her in a romantic scenario. Having her more intrigued with the sensation of touch versus the human connection was well, a nice touch.
What happens to her and how she reacts to it was a little over the top. I would have preferred her have an inner monologue during her final page. It came across a little too pouty and I dare say theatrical?... for me. That probably doesn't make any sense, but I wonder if anyone else saw it that way.
The Gunn Story.
So much good. So much bad.
I wonder if any revelation with him would have satisfied me. All along I was thinking Harmony sired him... no Spike did... maybe it was Angel. Turns out it was Angel, in a sense. I love that it was random vampires, but what I didn't like was that it was random vampires with a motive. I'm sure they have a story coming up that will explain everything but wouldn't it have been so much cooler if it was a random scummy vampire that was just trying to feed? I am kind of intrigued where Lynch is going to take us with this. If we are going down this path with a man behind the curtain (is that even where we are going?) then I hope it pays off.
Questions I have after reading this issue: I wonder if vampires that were sired after being in hell are inherently different than other vampires.
Does Gunn have a soul?
Was Gwen shooting lightning at the hell barrier? Are going to get to actually see someone walk up to the barrier?
Betta George Why even bother to include him this time? It was a waste of a page. It didn't tell us anything new. I wanted more! I wanted to know more about the slayers. I really just don't know why Betta George was in this issue. Was it because he was in the last two? Am I wrong ( I don't have my other issues next to me) but wasn't Betta George kind of the unofficial narrator of first night? Like he would pop in at the the beginning and end to open and close the story. I'm sure Lynch wanted to end on Gunn but I really do think he could have done something melancholy with George's story at the end of the issue to keep the somber mood. Especially since Gunn is responsible for George being there.
I guess all in all I wish that First Night had been its own series separate from After The Fall. It just didn't fit toneally with the other issues. And if it was necessary to include them, we might as well have had them in chronological order. These could have been the first 3 issues of After The Fall. There wasn't really any sort of pay off to having waiting so long to see what happened right after the last episode of the show. Bit of a let down really.
I will say that I really enjoyed the first 5 issues of After The Fall. A big part of that is Franco's beautiful drawings. That said, I don't think it is the best idea for him to have switched to Spike: After The Fall. This is probably just me but I feel like I got into a flow with reading After The Fall and now that we are going back to the main story I'm scared I'm going to be missing something because my comfort zone of Franco's art won't be there. It sounds weird but I almost feel like I initially don't trust Nick Runge's style. I don't know, the word I want to use is disservice to After The Fall. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm spending too much time thinking about a damn comic but I guess it's just something I wanted to get off my chest.
I'll end on a more positive note. I love the story for After The Fall. I love the writing and I've loved most of the art. I might not agree with the finished product, but in the end it's the story that matters. I'll be able to think years down the line, even when I'm away from comics just thinking about the overarching story of these characters in this universe and how well this story fit in. So, um, thanks Brian!

So here we are-It's out!!! We finally got to find out who sired Gunn and it's......
No one in particular-as far as we know yet. It was kind of a let down in a way, but, like iloveromy said, it was also kinda cool. I wouldn't have made much sense for it to be Spike or Angel, so Harm was our only regular series vamp that was a suspect-and where would she have come from? Oh randomly-"I think I'll go to this alley and see what Angel's up to..." So I hope that we see more of these mystery vamps and their plan for Gunn. So is Gunn now super-lawyer vamp? I guess the law won't really help him where he is...
Gwen's story was cool, but didn't really break any new ground as far as what is going on with her. She got her powers back-I guess I was never sure exactly how that thing worked, and wasn't sure if her powers were supposed to be gone for good.
Civiiians-A nice touch-Funny how that guy was right about the end of the world.
Overall a good issue, but I am ready to get back to the big story!
