I think this has the potential to be a good idea if they can get the original cast to sign on (with the exception of SMG, of course, because I am doubtful she would take part. But they could get Giselle Loren who voiced Buffy in the video games, etc. I always thought she did an acceptable job as Buffy). I am skeptical though as to the truth of this due to the lack of info. I will remain so until we hear something directly from Joss. I do think this could be cool though. In my eyes, any Buffy is better than none at all, especially when Joss is involved! And it would be great to take the already spectacular season 8 comics up a notch.

oh and think of the merchandise! I've been thinking how awesome it would be to have some new merch based on the season 8 comics. Figures, etc., would be cool. And it would be uber awesome if the motion comic did so well that FOX decided to produce the animated series after all. Ok, so maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, but still... Is there a reason Alyson would be hard to convince? I don't think Alyson would be so much hard to convince as simply just unavailable. She is pretty busy with her own show at the moment. Not to mention the fact that she recently had a baby. I don't think she would be hard to convince though because we know that she lended her voice to the animated pilot, so there's a good chance that she would be on board for this as well, I think. Let's hope that if this is true, and cast voices are going to be used, that Aly would find time to squeeze this onto her already full plate. I think there's a good chance that with the exception of SMG, most of the others would be willing to partake in this, hopefully...

This is awesome news, something we desperately needed in times of Joss-less Buffy movies!

This would be very interesting. For fun I tried doing something similar with the season 8 comics (much cruder than Dark Horse would manage).
I don't think they'll get many - if any - of the original actors as they are all pretty busy with other things. Also, Dark Horse might not have the budget to pay them what I'm sure they'd want. I'd imagine it's far more likely to be new actors doing best impressions of the scoobies ala Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon.
Like all Buffy fans I've been hoping for years that we'd get some sort of new Buffy media - be it a new show (Faith, Ripper, Spike TV movie), a big screen movie (NOT the Kuzui effort we're gonna get) or whatever. Then, thankfully, we got season 8.
But being greedy I want more. The animated series I always thought was a wonderful Idea and a great way to keep Buffy 'in motion'. To go back to the early days in Sunnydale and tell more wonderful stories in 'classic' Buffy. Can't FOX and/or Dark Horse get together and partially resurrect that? Even if it's just web based or direct to DVD. TV is not the only outlet nowadays. In many places it's actually a shrinking outlet.
Still, this idea of a 'motion comic' is a welcome step forward to having our beloved Buffy back moving, talking and slaying.

Oh. And instead of like "Issue #1" and all that, it could be like "The Long Way Home" the full part that goes for like 40 mins...coz each will be like 10 mins. Hopefully. I am excited about this. Is it REALLY happening?

An actually animated season 8 for a direct-to-dvd movie would be amazing. They could have an arc a movie!

I would TOTALLY buy these! I'd even buy TOYL, even though I hate that arc. This is SO amazing if true. This will make them like an actual episode! Well, more like one.
I'm SO excited. I really hope they do all of the seaosn 8 arcs!

No idea what motion comics were until I read this thread. So now, I'm interested in what they're doing because I think it would be really unique and probably fun to watch.
To me it just looks like they basically just give each frame some actual physical depth, and then also give the dialogue time to run over the frame by repeating some images. Kinda like in the X-Men link above.
And that's good, because, I think a few readers (me included) kinda race through the issue because, hey, new Buffy! Then it's over, and we're sad.
Part of the fun of the show every week on TV, was being able to just sink into an hour's* worth of storytelling, and get completely wrapped into the plot and forgetting about the world outside.
Whoever they get as voice actors that aren't from the original cast, I hope they're able to capture the 'voice' of the original actor.
Awesome!
*an hour passes by quickly in Hollywood, usually lasting about 42-ish minutes.

Well Scott Allie did mention something about doing motion comics in one of our Q&As. I wouldn't be surprised to hear this announced at Comic Con next month.

Huh... that seems like more than a "motion comic." This is something being released on DVD. A real animated series, I'm guessing. You've been holding out on us, Scott and Georges. (Please please please get the actors to do the voices.)
