:all you ever wanted to know about karma: We have a reputation system on the forum (as most forum's do) called 'Karma'. It is a simple point based function where you can choose to add to, or subtract from, any forum member's count. This is a great way for people to show they appreciate a person whether that be for helping, be it sharing resources, answering a question, or whatever else. In turn, the flip side is that you can also choose to take a point from someone. We give all members a base starting number of 100, upon registration and making your first post. From then on, you can add or subtract to other members' points and they can do the same to you. Here are some very honest answers about karma/rep and how it works, and why you might see your number going up (or down): Typical Reasons to give someone a point: (add)- A great post, comment, or otherwise in any discussion
- Appreciating someone's artwork, custom figure, or literary work (fan-fic, poetry, etc)
- If a member wins in a forum game, and you feel like giving them a reputation boost
- You just plain like this person and want to add to their reputation here on the forum!
Typical reason(s) for taking away a point: (subtract)- You do not like a post, comment or otherwise that they made in a discussion thread
Other that this reason, I do not think it's fair to abuse the point system and take people's points down for no reason. Even if you dislike a person, don't flame them and sabotage their reputation. It isn't fair, or becoming of SlayAlivers. We do want everyone to get along! Another important fact to remember is that I see all actions of the system, and I do monitor if people abuse it. You can only act once per hour. So make it count! Lastly, we award reputation points from time to time in contests and forum games as well! If we see you do something neat, be sure that you're numbers will skyrocket.

Thanks for adding this Phil. When I am watching someone or one of my friends joins the site, they always ask about karma. Now I can send them a link to this thread and they can learn everything about it. Karma for you Phil ;D

You know what I would like to see: a disagreement discussion. Cuz you could post something and then your karma gets shot, but there is no explanation for that and you're left wondering over the last 3 or 4 days, I have lost 3 karma points, yet I have no idea why I have lost them because there is no explanation and I've looked through my posts, but can't find anything someone would disagree about. If you don't like someone's post, at least gain the courage to discuss what you don't like about it, instead of hiding in the shadows and sniping away at their karma

I understand where you're coming from Chris. It's a bit unsettling to know that someone doesn't like you or dislikes your posts (as is the reason I assume they would take karma) and have no idea why!
Maybe people could extend the courtesy of letting people know by PM or post why they dis-karma someone.
Most people would avoid relinquishing their anonymity and would avoid the confrontation I suppose.

I agree too NL. Last month my karma went down like ten in the space of a few days. Over those few days I hardly posted anything at all and never have a posted something offensive in anyway on this forum. Maybe someone genuingly didn't like me

Raz you've seriously EARNED your karma because you put in so much effort with the site and you participate whenever you can! You also take initiative to promote site activities and are constantly going further than your 'welcomer' role to help other members and make the forum a fun place! You seriously deserve your karma, and newbies should be able to look at yours and say "He's a good forum member!"
I agree it would be nice if people gave more karma to the heavy discussion participants of the forum, but effort, time and presence is also a big thing!

I really don't pay too much attention to my Karma. If it fluxuated a few points I probably wouldn't notice, lol. NL, I gave you karma just because I think you're awesome anyway

Hahaha, my karma went down! I only noticed because of this thread, that's hilarious!
Perhaps someone is mad at me for upping your karma, NL. I think you might have a karma stalker.

That's pathetic if it's true. Stalkers are sad.

Well... technically I got a lot of my karma from CBG, by participating on the forum. I got more from participating and making particularly helpful posts like you, Raz. Very little is from day-to-day people liking my posts.

*write in diary, my beloved Sky thinks I'm sad.... It hurts so much right now!!* Remember, there's a difference between being a evil karma-taker, and being a admirer or devoted fan. I assume you're the good kind of stalker.
