I remember in "Where the Wild things Are" or as I call it "The Sex Episode" Spike's all like "Gimme your money" and she's like "I like my money when it's mine".

I think the former life as Aud plays more of a role in Anya's second run in human form than people often realize. As Aud, it seems that Anya was rather sheltered because people didn't like her comments and literal attitude, but it is obvious that she means well and her heart is in the right place. This lack of social interaction leaves Anya rather innocent to the ways of the world. When she becomes a vengeance demon she lives her work, shown in the flashback mentioned before.
It isn't until Anya is returned to human form and involved with Xander that she begins to actually understand the world, albeit in the most basic and simple ways. What else could be expected of someone who is still rather socially naive.
It has to be kept in mind when looking at this situation that Anya is also coming to terms with her newly realized mortality. For so long she is in a complete rush to have children and get married. The money really ties into this. Anya's second wave as a human is all about controlling her fate and winning the game she lost when she was with Olaf. As was mentioned before, Xander's explanation of money in "Life" was taken literally by the literal minded, socially-naive Anya.
At the same time, it shows you that while Anya lives through what she is around. The only senses of identity she has as Anya Jenkins are Xander and her job. They're really the only two normal aspects in her life.
