So... I'm on the fourth book now, and don't remember a "Triana". Perhaps they're rewriting Raina and Berdine? Are they making Cara gay now? Here's a youtube sneakpeak of the second season: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP1-WBIBO80Um.... where are the Sisters of the Light??? I wonder if that is going to be a one-shot, lol.

Triana wasn't in the books. As for making Cara gay... maybe. I don't have a problem with it, but I don't really understand the reasoning except to add a bit of Lesbian Chic to the proceedings. Seems like just having Raina and Berdine in the show would have been the better course. (Know who'd make a great Berdine? Felicia Day.) The Sisters of the Light were in one episode of season 1... they lived in the magical valley of Oz hidden behind a door in the mountainside. It was really silly. Probably the dumbest thing in season 1. I enjoy the show... I just wish they could find it in their hearts to follow the books just a little bit. They were really good books, mostly, until Goodkind started in with his Ayn Rand obsession.

I guess I'll watch the Charisma Carpenter episode because I am a fan. But I gotta say I find they show pretty unwatchable otherwise.

As a longtime Xena fan, I'm used to the Rob Tapert style. (Although Xena had a lot more humor than this show).
I'd probably like it a lot better if I hadn't already read the books.

And I don't understand how big heavy airplanes can stay up in the sky... but there you go nonetheless. I think they both can be traced back to "lift". Karma for actually making me laugh after a long night...

I don't know about Felicia for Berdine... though that could work, she was hilarious in that S&M skit. I like Jessica Alba for Berdine, however I think she's done with TV. I completely agree. Mostly because I completely didn't recognize them. Talk about being butchered for TV. I'm a little sad that they aren't really following the books, just loosely based around them. I'm not sure who Ayn Rand is yet, just began the fifth book, so I'm getting there I truly cannot wait for this to start. Seeing Charisma on screen again after sooo looong will be really nice.

I'm not sure who Ayn Rand is yet, just began the fifth book, so I'm getting there Ayn Rand isn't a character in the books... she's a real person, the founder of the "Objectivist" worldview, which Goodkind adhered to to the point of ramming it down our throats with a stick, right around the time of the "Naked Empire" book. This continued to the end of the series, unfortunately.

Ok, I'm sleep-deprived but I read what you said as: Well... if you're a Librarian, than it's the best philosophical standing ever. Which is ironic, considering that Rand rejected Librarianism. And I was like, "There's a philosophy for librarians? What - they like cataloging stuff? Well, putting stuff in order is pretty cool. But why's Rand hate librarians so much? Jeez. Douche." *headdesks*

Objectivism is a great "philosophy" for people who want to be selfish and greedy and still feel good about themselves.
Which is why Rand came up with it.
I actually quit reading the books after "Naked Empire" for a couple of years... not because of the Randism (I don't only read books about people I agree with), but because Goodkind started preaching it with all the annoying, overbearing enthusiasm usually reserved for newly-converted fundamentalists and scientologists. Richard became a one-dimensional Mary Sue character whose main function was to puke out 5 or 6 page monologues about the importance of individualism and the evils of collectivism. And that was about as interesting as it sounds.
The quality of the writing declines significantly around that point, too. The last 3 volumes of the series were obviously originally meant to be one book, and were expanded to 3 (by Goodkind or his publisher, I don't know) by adding in ridiculous and obvious amounts of padding. You can literally go through the books with a highlighter and pick out where he added the padding. And you can pretty much identify the point, about midway through the last volume, where he gets back to his original manuscript and the quality picks up again.
I doubt the TV show will ever get much into that aspect of the story, though. It's funny, because the show is being run by Rob Tapert, whose most famous creation -- Xena -- was about as much a polar opposite of Randian philosophy as you can get. Objectivists hate the concepts of "greater good," duty to others, and self-sacrifice, which was pretty much Xena's whole character.

Here's a video clip of Charisma as Triana (and Tabrett Bethell as Cara) in the season premiere of Legend of the Seeker: Triana sounds almost Cordy-like in her attitude. Charisma looks very hot in head-to-toe red PVC, and Tabrett looks hot in head-to-toe... um, nothing. These bathhouse scenes are a trademark of Rob Tapert series. Xena was full of them. Had to cringe at the dialog (again) though... in the books, The Mord-Sith were created by the Lords Rahl and had no other function than to serve him. There was no question of finding a new Lord Rahl "worthy of their services" or not. I'm pretty sure I'd be happier with this series if I hadn't read the books.

Perchance we should write ABC and suggest they more closely follow the books Agreed, Charisma looks hot and definitely vibing Cordy, which isn't a bad thing for this role.

Cool... I would love to watch the series one day. Do they not have it in Australia? It's shot in New Zealand with mostly Kiwi and Australian actors except for the 2 leads. Bruce Spence is one of the stars. I guess "Xena" was like that too... filmed in NZ, but not shown there or in Australia until years later.

I don't know if it's popular enough to pick up extra-American/UK syndication

It's quite popular, actually. About twice the audience "Dollhouse" has, despite being in syndication.

No, I don’t think it is (well, not yet anyway, I had a friend from school who was Lucy lawless’s second cousin or somthing like that... lol... just putting it out there. Ha ha ha.) I did enjoy watching Xena and Hercules when I was a kid so I think I would be a fan of this.
