This seems like a great idea for a episode. Damn that I won't see it for months.

hahaha, what is that girl doing in the second picture? She's like running her fingers through her hair, but it's quite a funny shot.

Looks like it's going to be a really good episode!! Dollhouse may be saved if they keep putting episodes like this and the last one out.
Can't wait for it!

this episode looks amazing. does anyone know what episode joss started to get full control of the show? Episode 6: Man on the Street. I'm already enjoying the show, so I'm psyched that it'll only get better.

For some reason, this episode is already available on Fox on Demand. Click here to watch. I don't think it works for people outside the US though, but try, I guess. EDIT: Apparently the online version has been taken off air. Guess they realized that something was wrong. If anyone caught it, consider yourself one of the lucky fewThoughts are in spoiler tags, just in case. I think this is my favorite episode to date. It just wasn't clunky, and even the occasional heavy-handed allusions fitted the general mood and tone of the episode. Furthermore, we see more of the inner-workings of the Dollhouse, including just how much surveillance goes on within, presumably necessitated after the Alpha attack. It's also apparent that there is trouble in paradise with Adelle and Dominic... there is doubt on both fronts, and the end confirms that Adelle no longer really trusts Dominic.
Topher's exchange with Dr. Saunders was hilarious... I may just have to use "man reaction" from now on... it's just so fitting (the term pecker-checker also comes to mind). But apparently Echo isn't the only one that has been behaving unpredictably. She's just the most self-aware. It seems that the tabula rasa state isn't as blank as the heads may have hoped for, and I guess there is a biological reason for this, which is so intuitive to me that I have no idea how they thought that they could wipe that out. Nature vs. nurture, I guess. Oh... and I may be mistaken, but this may the first time that the Actives are referred to as "Dolls" too. I can't remember them ever being called Dolls before, although the allusion was still there, since "broken" Actives got put in the "Attic", which incidentally is referred to in passing again. The conversation between Adelle, Dominic, Topher, and Saunders (yeah, I'm not very systematic about using first or last names) underscores something that was in the original pilot, but excised from the Topher and Boyd exchange in the previous ep: that Dolls cannot act unpredictably, lest they be put in the Attic (I guess it's like putting a cow out to pasture, but I'm positive that it's a euphemism, rather than a pastoral allusion). Would explain why Dominic is so wary and downright antagonistic towards Echo... man tried to kill her in this episode!
Plotwise, it moved very solidly. The pace was perfect, with just enough action to punctuate the episode. The juxtaposition of a religious cult with the Dollhouse operation is quite disquieting, and there is a slight return of word play (i.e. puns and irony) here. No real stand-out performances for me here, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Amy Acker for this ep. There is just something about her Saunders that is hard and vulnerable at the same time... The only reason I'm not entirely blown away is because if I just put some blue and leather on her, she could very well be Illyria, with an added dose of tenderness. But I do like Topher now... his "man-friend" and "man-reaction" lines make me smile. I like awkward boys... it's a thing.

Joe, it's just me testing the general literacy of the forum. lol But I'll amend that post, just to be sure no one else freaks out. And the ep was a good one. So watch it, DVR it, Hulu it. I'm watching it again tonight... it's that good.

I enjoyed it, but it's probably my least favorite episode so far. The way the episodes are set up are getting kind of tired. "Echo in the Dollhouse, client with Adelle, Echo on assignment, things go wrong, she survives, wiped, shows some self-awareness". For some reason this never really bothered me until tonight. But still, it was great. Like Xi, I absolutely loved the inner workings of the Dollhouse this episode. I loved the thing between Sierra and Victor. How the Doll's react together, even sexually, is something I really wanted to be explored, so I'm happy it's started already. I really enjoyed the scenes between Topher and Claire too, probably had some of the funniest lines of the series yet: "It's an oak, not yet a wood" or something. They really tip-toed their way around the whole thing. The religious cult thing was freaky, but I just didn't care that much, wasn't invested in it. I do have to give Eliza big props with how she played Esther, really cool character. Also happy the Paul searching for Caroline story picked up. Bring on next week! Looks amazing! The "FOX episodes" are over, so let the "Joss episodes" begin.

This episode was off the charts awesome. The Victor/Sierra thing was unbelievably hilarious, and in true Whedonesque fashion; I could not stop laughing for quite some time. Extremely impressed by Eliza as well. I'm starting to be absolutely sure that she can carry this series on for a while if given the chance. Excellent writing from Tim Minear and I can't wait to digest it more closely whenever it's uploaded online.
As for the last scene, it definitely put a smile on my face. Not as awesome as the last couple of final scenes since The Target, but certainly another great ending.

I think the exact quote was "It's not oak, but it's on its way to wood". At least that's what I remembered it being.

hey. I didn't have time to read through this thread because I am on my way out the door (damn friday time slot!!!). But I wanted to mention something that I thought was awesome in this episode. When clair and topher are talking about victor (forgot his other name), clair says that he has had 8 engagements with Mrs. Lonely Hearts. I am not sure if anyone else knows this but... Mrs. Lonely Hearts is the name of a character in Hitchcock's Rear WIndow. Rear Window is known in the film world as "The Masters Dollhouse" because hitchcock wanted rear window to feel like we were looking in on a dollhouse, seeing something we were not suposed to see. All of the characters, aside from the main characters (names Jeff and Liza) have names like Mrs. Lonely HEarts...Mrs. Torso is another one. Just thought it was an awesome little nod. Be back with more comments on the episode (and a hangover, most likely)

I really loved this episode and I was happy to see Eliza acting blind in a convincing manner.
I'm going to rewatch this one before posting more thoughts. But Minear did a great job, the tone of the episode was awesome, the inner workings of the Dollhouse were wonderful to see and I'm excited that Ballard is finally getting close enough to find Echo/Caroline.
My episode rating before this was:
The Target = Gray Hour > Ghost > Stage Fright
Now I'm not sure what my fav eps are. This one might take the #1 spot. Need to rewatch it and think about it a bit more.

First things first.............."man reaction" lol. Secondly, I know it's weird, but this my favorite episode so far. I liked Echo's imprint, I wish they would've told us more about her other than she's blind. I mainly liked it though because the theme is something I think about alot. I never understood how people can blindly follow someone because they say so.
