Just out of curiosity, what are the viewerships and demos of the other shows on Friday, and how do they compare to other genre shows on Fox and other networks? I don't think I'm the only one who thinks Dollhouse could be successful on a different network. Here are the numbers for everything last night. Most of Dollhouse's competition were in repeats. And I don't think Dollhouse could change networks, Eliza is has an exclusive contract with FOX.

After seeing last night's episode, I really wonder how they could do five seasons of Dollhouse anyway. i mean Buffy was the perfect show for a long run because they could come up with a "bigger bad" every year. I don't see Dollhouse being still as exciting and fun beyond a potential season 2. I really liked how every season of BTVS had its super villain. it was something to look forward to at the beginning of every season. sigh

Thanks for the link. I wonder what the DVR/Hulu ratings are, if they look better than live airings, and whether the network even cares. There is a possibility that Fox will take Hulu ratings into account because they and NBC collaborated on the project. And I don't think Dollhouse could change networks, Eliza is has an exclusive contract with FOX. That was a bad career move, lol. When is that up?

Contracts usually go: 1) 1 season 2) renewed for 2 more seasons (until season 3) 3) and after that, i believe it goes for every 2 years.

I just realized that fox has screwed over both Eliza and Joss!!!
Eliza with Tru Calling (how the second season episode count kept getting slashed after every episode, never airing the finale)
Joss obviously with Firefly.

And that would still prohibit Dollhouse from moving to another network, even though if it didn't renew, Eliza's contract would be up with the network? The logic goes in circles.
Oh an btw, it looks like watching Dollhouse on Hulu won't help ratings, but watching it on Fox.com will. I dunno, seems like it should be the same.

well, i think Eliza already signed her 2 year extention contract. i'm not absolutely 100% sure, but you're absolutely right, the logic does indeed go in circles.

Olivia Williams said on the Late Late Show that she signed up for eight years on the show, so I don't know how it works either.

They still make money out of the episodes they post on the website thanks to their limited commercial breaks thing, I guess. They don't make any money when people go on hulu.

If it moved to cable it would probably have to be FX, which is owned by Fox.

It's because Hulu is an independent subsidiary that was funded by Fox and NBC. Profits from Hulu aren't counted in profits for Fox or the show.

So they CAN do five seasons. FOX knows what happens, and so does Joss. So it's all planned out.

There's so many ways Dollhouse can develop for 5 years. It's moving much more quickly than I imagined but there's so many new tangents invented each episode that I'm sure it could go on for a long time.

I don't see where else it can go as well, but I do trust him and I know he has a great plan behind it all with many storylines.

'Needs' is currently at #2 on iTunes!! It's only been up for less than a day!
I think Fox was looking more at internet viewing, iTunes, and DVR/Tivo numbers as opposed to actual ratings.

Not sure if this helps any, but you can preorder Season 1 on Blu-ray on Amazon.com. Pretty good deal since it's a 30% discount of the original price. Do DVD/Blu-ray sales factor into decision making?

It really just depends on when the DVD/Blu-Ray comes out. If it was coming out in June or July, like some season sets seem to be this year, then they could take the sales/interest into account. That's pushing it though since we will most likely hear a decision about Dollhouse's future by the end of May, or in June. The DVD/Blu-Ray will probably just come out in the Fall though, which is really just too late to do much.
